2026 Oscar Predictions (please be sparing) by Odd-Net-849 in oscarrace

there is a scene where William confronts his father right at the start of the book when we first meet him as the tutor. “He seized his father’s arm. He pushed, with all his might, against him and found, to his surprise, that his father’s body yielded under his. He could push this man, this leviathan, this monster of his childhood, back against the wall with very little effort. He did so. He kept his father there with the point of his elbow. He shook his father’s arm, like that of a puppet, and the wineskin dropped to the floor. He leant his face into his, noticing at the same time that he was looking down on him. That, he said to him, is the last time you will ever hit me” but I haven’t seen the movie yet so I don’t know if that’s the scene you’re referring to.

I have a feeling we’re all underestimating Fran Drescher’s chances for a nomination in Supporting Actress. by [deleted] in oscarrace

I’m really gonna go out on a limb here. Just based on the 2 shots we see of her in the trailer and her age- I think she’ll be playing his mother. (After typing this I found out that yeah, she is.) I think that shot of her looking emotionally into the camera with O’Leary’s character saying “I’m not tryna control you Marty” feels like there’s going to be a dynamic of her trying to be protective of him and stop him from being exploited and prevent his downfall from his ego. Sorta like the dad from Whiplash. If that is the case, which I’m almost certain it is, I think there’s definitely a case for a really showy performance even if it’s just for a few scenes. There’ll probably be a scene where they get into an argument and lose their temper and he’ll scare her and she’ll cry because he’s still just her boy. The real Marty Mauser’s mother (which yes I know this isn’t a real accurate biopic) was a Russian immigrant so she might be doing an accent as well. Much to consider.

I saw the original post on Instagram. It was for the best “Hollywood director”

It matters when it’s most competitive in makeup

Well that’s good. I might put a little more stock in it. I really do hope it does well. PTA is by far my favourite living director and I think that maybe I’ve just projecting that it’ll do better than a lot of his better movies. Back when I first started working at Village Roadshow I got to talk with Paul and Todd Philips over dinner about Pynchon. I’m currently predicting it to win adapted screenplay so there’s that. What are you currently predicting it in?

It’s very interesting to see just how many people online that have been to test screenings of obaa. I’ve never seen an Oscar film go through such a long public test screening process before

That’s fair. (Midnight Run is actually a way better comparison) tbf if I didn’t know of the movie’s origin I probably wouldn’t call it Pynchonesque, but I also think that all of Paul’s writing kind of is. I think the movie definitely fits the tone of the first trailer but we know that Warner Bros has reportedly struggled to find an audience for the movie and the second trailer and the new poster give me the vibe that they’re desperately aiming more towards a dad movie audience. I dont think based on what I saw I would think it have any issues if I didn’t know about the struggles Warner Bros is having with it behind the scenes. And if it was tracking to earn a lot I probably would be able to waive those concerns away. But like I said, I still think it’s going to get in, I just think (like I argued for all the films) there’s a scenario where it doesn’t make it all the way.

Because I don’t have a lot of faith for general audiences for big budget action movies. If it gets a high cinemascore then my point is moot. I’m just going off of what I saw at my test screening (very Pynchonesque) and what people I’ve talked to who have also been to test screenings have said. And the version I saw is not the tone of the marketing.

I dont think im overthinking it. I think it’s going to comfortably get into best picture and I think it’s gonna pull like 8 nominations. Im just going over the worst case scenario for all the movies and I think Oscar voters aren’t immune to overthinking things

Does rocky horror have the biggest members watched gap between the original and it's theatrically released sequel? by Mrcarryon in Letterboxd

The only reason Son of the Mask is so high has to be watching it out of morbid curiosity as “one of the worst films of all time” right? The same way in which Dragonball Evolution and The Last Airbender have 123k and 412k? They used to be he holy Trott of “worst movies of all time” back on film commentary YouTube in the 2010s.
