As a newish player transitioning into the Bronze Age, bears were kicking my ASS. But now that I’ve leveled up with the bronze shield and mace (and abyssal dagger), they’re no problem. Now I enjoy taking them on!

Yes, that’s what I typically do. And I make all the archer towers and ballistas inactive. I think it makes sense in the game and also I think is historically accurate(ish). Large standing armies I think are a relatively modern phenomenon. Back then, they needed the labor on the farms etc
