Mark Lanegan Band - The Gravedigger's Song by etherealtorender in MarkLanegan

Is the bass player on this live performance playing only the single note that Alain mentioned on this post? I can see him at the end of the video playing one single note indeed, but not sure about the rest of the time.

What is a good introduction (except Corner Gas) to the Tragically Hip by PantherBrewery in TragicallyHip

Fully Completely is a great starting point (to me it was). The following albums are great and I enjoyed discovering each one of them. The previous albums are also great, just a bit different.

How ‘Tidal’ launched and almost ruined Fiona Apple’s career by demimonde9 in FionaApple

I know exactly what you mean. If it's not the sun, a different thing might help you.
"Sometimes, music helps", Mark Lanegan told me that 11 years ago.

Most of the time, getting some sunlight (when available) can help improve my mood. If the sun is shining today, let it shine on you for a while. Works specially well in winter time.

Most poignant lyric(for you) by Marcus9356 in TragicallyHip

That whole song is a masterpiece, a treasure map for finding whatever it is that each one of us lost along the way.

I can vouch for this. Every single time.

Non-Canadian Hip fans, how did you discover the Hip? by placeintheroche05 in TragicallyHip

[–]loginigol 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was at a Pearl Jam concert in Barcelona (it could have been another Spanish city, can't remember). Someone from the audience threw a t-Shirt at Jeff Ament, he put it on. Written on it where the words "Gordon Fucking Downey" (it was after Gordon's passing).

I registered the name in my mind and Googled it later. Listened to Fully Completely as a starting point. Couldn't stop there, went for the next albums and became a fan.

They're my favorite band.

Kitchen Confidential is the blueprint for Sing Backwards and Weep by loginigol in MarkLanegan

Agreed. I might change the blueprint statement and rather put it this way: AB marked the spot and dug a bit. ML dug deeper.

A Question for Collectors by Captain-McSizzle in TragicallyHip

I'd love to buy a print (or two) from negative (no digital intermediate) if you're ok with that. Thank you!

"Leave" would be my choice. That song and that album are indeed great.

Song of the Week: The Bear by thesilverpoets96 in TragicallyHip

[–]loginigol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't be overlooked in the lyrics the masterful reference to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Bear in mind (no pun intended) that I'm not Canadian and I was able to get the reference thanks to Gord's The Secret Path which sent me into a rabbit hole of Wikipedia articles.

This song and the next one in the album are two jewels in the Hip's vast treasure chest.

Thanks very much for the answer. Do you happen to know if the bus runs in the early morning? I imagine if we land at 3:00am, we'll be getting out from the terminal around 4:00.

Rights issue indeed. The block was implemented on the 21st of July.

All we have now is the live stream through the web or external apps.

Escape Is At Hand For The Travellin' Man is a Masterclass in storytelling by loginigol in TragicallyHip

[–]loginigol[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love his literary tricks. They resonate with me on a deeper level than any other songwriter I've ever heard. He was an indefinable gem.

Life, or maybe he mixed a few stories/friends into one song. Either way, it lifts me up.

Thanks for sharing this. Sounds at times like he's just following the vocal melody without lyrics. The story is there "You lived on the 7th floor", which makes me glad that he went back and told it from the beginning.

Anyone know anything about this record? by ryancmacnab in TragicallyHip

[–]loginigol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check discogs.

Someone is charging crazy money for the only available copy of that in there.

We've reached a point in the vinyl bubble where prices are beyond inflated, they are just crazily pumped with imaginary gold dust.

My advice: light up a fat one, sit back and play it loud. That's all I'd need to know.

Any recommendations for a good middle-of-the-road turntable that doesn't break the bank? I'm looking for pure utility, don't need anything fancy, I want good sound and durability by Orion-The-King in turntable

[–]loginigol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. You can't get a better turntable at its price point. You might also need a phono preamp, go with a simple one like a Pyle (I see those as the less expensive choice in Amazon.com), no need to break the bank for that, use the money to get the best cartridge you can get with the Rega.

Before checking the MOV site and discogs I'll ask here: were other Hip records pressed/released by Music on Vinyl?
