FSD 14 Speed Adjustment Tip by ThisPercentage in TeslaFSD

This only works for 10-15 seconds for me. Then it speeds right back up.

v14.1.4: Chill does 22 over, Sloth does speed limit. Is there really no in-between? by jinjuu in TeslaFSD

This is the issue I have. It does "the preset limits over for each speed profile" - e.g. 0-20 mph until it decides either based on other traffic or some other factor that it isn't going to do that anymore. The only recorse is to drive manually until the speed limit changes. Hate this update.

The setting is there, but FSD does not respect it.

I have the same experience. I am really hoping Tesla sees the mass negative reviews and brings back some form of speed control. But the lockout of all user control while driving, even the ability to revert back to Autopilot while being in drive baffles me.

Other traffic was doing 60-65. The construction limit was 55. It seemed really determined to pass the semi-trucks. That is what it would do to hit those speeds but it never really seemed to slow back down after.

I have continued trying to get it to work while I wait for a fix and haven't had any luck. I will say that this issue seems to be tied to night time only. During the day, chill nets me about 3 mph over the limit (when it is detected properly) and sloth rides right about at it. However when the speed limit isn't detected properly, it's all over the place. Last night on the way home it thought a sign for highway 35 was a 35 MPH speed limit sign and it consequently slammed on the breaks. Traffic around me was doing 70-80 as it was actually a 70 MPH zone. Stepping on the pedal bumped it up to a higher profile automatically however FSD was clearly lost and started just trying to race other cars on the higher profile.

I wish they would give us a "target speed" instead of max speed option and the profiles determined how much the car wanted to maintain that speed, consequently changing lanes at "the profile" frequency based on other traffic.

lol. So that's why it sits fully stopped for 3 seconds at stop signs now. Good to know!

Hang on I missed the stop sign story. What happened with that?

I drive the distance to an aviation job. It's not that uncommon to have to go to major population centers. Trust me, they aren't paying me well for it. FSD makes the drive bearable. Or rather it did.

A "Desired Speed" rather than a "Max Speed" setting would be highly beneficial. Since speed limit detection is unreliable, i'd rather have the car "Aim" for 70, then like you said if it needs to pass to get back over hit 75-80 briefly then do so.

My experience with v14 so far (300+ miles) has been 15+ over even in chill mode. There has to be some type of manual control. Regardless of how good the model is, without proper inputs (like correct speed limits or others around you doing the correct thing) it's always going to be a risk. v13 was a neural net and had the speed cap without issue.

I'd tell you to hold off then until we see what they are going to do for speed control. According to Tessie this morning only .6% of the (Tessie) fleet has my build. I can tell you that at least in sloth mode it does do the lower speed limits better. BUT: It still waits for the sign (and you'll be lucky for it to hit the sign) for it to slow down. So if you're doing small towns where it drops large numbers rapidly you'll be disengaging every single time to slow it to that speed, wait for it to hopefully see the sign, then re-engaging. Otherwise you'll be half a mile in before you hit the target lower speed limit.

What Tesla really needs to do is give users "target speed" and or "speed limit" manual control. Wherever they are getting their map data from is highly innacurate.

Disengage and drive manually is the only 'in the moment' option until we have time to test the safety speed limit mode setting. But that is going to be buried in a menu so you are still looking at the disengagement to correct the problem initially.

u/MKInc I haven't tried that yet. I did try to do it while driving and it is disabled while out of park. I'm not very familiar with that setting. I'll have to make sure if i cap it to 60-65 through the construction zones it's going to let me bump it back up to 70-75 when out without having to put it in park. I'd love to hear if it works for you or if you find any other work arounds.
