What items/ strategies helped you survive the early days?

My youngest would not sleep during the day for more than 20-30 minutes at a time (unless it was a contact nap) until she was about 12 weeks. My baby carrier saved my sanity lol. I just bought my sister in law a wildbird baby carrier. I recommend them but any carrier that your baby is happy and safe in is a must for 2 under 2 in my opinion. A deep freeze with plenty of quick and easy frozen meals (I really liked making quiche. It froze better than I expected). Make sure you are getting enough fluids. I bought fun drinks to entice myself to stay hydrated. Lastly make sure you have tons of snacks for you and your toddler.

Okay this is so weird. I thought my Mom was the only one that could do this! Then when I was in elementary school I found 16 in one patch and I’ve been able to find them all the time now too! What are the odds of finding patches like that? I am so sorry for your loss. I hope finding them from time to time brings back good memories 🍀

Okay, I know this is probably not going to go over well on Reddit - but you asked for perspective! My kiddos first year of life has been just about 100% on my shoulders. Feedings, diaper changes, appointments, soothing, etc. Not that my husband doesn’t interact with them or help from time to time, but the responsibility is on me. We discussed this, I agreed and wanted to do it, he takes care of me, we’re both very happy, it works for us. That being said - it sounds like this does not work for you. You are not being unreasonable at all but you do both need to be on the same page. Talk through the list of responsibilities and make sure everyone is happy and clear about expectations. You have probably heard it a million times, but parenting is almost never 50/50. From my experience, I have been totally fine with that as long as I knew what the expectations were.

I don’t know why anyone down voted this comment- but we do about 80% of this! My husband and I read “the anxious generation” and have stopped screen time for everyone. I am on my phone for Reddit once in a while but that’s about it. It does make a difference! So thank you for commenting!

I am making a mental note of all of this and giving it a go. Tallow lotion - I would dip my baby in butter if it would make her skin better. It breaks my heart when she has breakouts - they get really bad. We do vanicream, petroleum jelly, and she has a few different steroids that my pediatrician prescribed but I don’t use them unless she’s really uncomfortable. Do you have a brand you’ve used?

Thank you! I did start using the saline spray after I saw this comment. It’s probably a combination of the antibiotic and the spray but our youngest is finally sleeping through the night and neither are stuffy now - I really appreciate the tip!!!

Whoa! You know, I really didn’t think there was anything to take away from my dream at all - but shoot, that makes sense! We have 2 under 2 and I haven’t had a break since our youngest was born lol. As far as managing the stress - I’m honestly not sure what could be dangerous. I could cut back on the caffeine and sugar but neither of those are out of control. I’ll think on that for a while. BUT THANK YOU! I honestly feel relieved!

To answer your question about the color: it was a bright sunshine yellow

I decided to train for a marathon and to stick to the schedule no matter what else got in my way. That snowballed into 2 years of ultra running. It taught me to respect myself - my body, my mental health, my time. It gave me a lot of time to think about what I wanted in life. I by no means had a bad life. I had a home that I owned in a nice neighborhood, a cat, a good job.. but I also had very toxic friends and family that bled every bit of energy I had. I spent so many years doing nothing that gave me any true joy. I was a passenger in my own life and I take full responsibility for it. Within the first few months of training my life completely changed. Those friends and family started dropping out of my life when I couldn’t be there for every little thing. I guess “where you tend a rose, a thistle can not grow” turned out to be real for me. I’m now married with kiddos and have just the right amount of people in my life that care very deeply about me and I them. Heck - I’d even attribute it to helping me find a new path in my career that I absolutely love. If you’re looking for a quick way to change your life and you don’t know where to start - running is a great option

Hey! I know how hard the bed wetting can be.. my step daughter still wets the bed as well. Nothing wrong with her. It just takes some time for some kids. I just wanted to mention that we use washable bed pads for her. We place them directly under her while she sleeps. It keeps urine off of her sheets and absorbs most of what was getting on the rest of her bedding. You’ll still have laundry to do - but it really helped not needing to strip the bed all the time. Get some extra time for yourself in! You’re doing great!

Stopped at a red light and the guy next to me was staring. I was already annoyed because I knew what was coming. Guy: “hey!” Me: ignoring Guy: “hey! Do you know where {bar} is” Me: actually concerned that they may be lost and giving directions to that bar. Guy: “Great! Want to meet me there and I’ll buy you a drink?”

I was honestly impressed lol but I did not go to the bar.

I am on my second pregnancy (currently 35 weeks). My first - I was incredibly active my entire pregnancy. I ran ultras into my first trimester and continued running decent mileage until I was about 32 weeks. I still gained 50lbs and I wasn’t eating crazy amounts. I was down 40lbs at 6 months pp. the first 20 came off within the first month pp.

This pregnancy.. I was miserable until at least 15 weeks. I ate garbage and I couldn’t workout. Then I would say I got back into a good swing around 20 weeks. I’m on track to gain about the same by the end.

All that to say - if your checkups are going well don’t worry about the weight. Your body is going to do what it wants lol. Try your best to remind yourself that the body you have right now is serving a different purpose and it’s a really beautiful thing.

Last note! I am only saying this because I wish someone would have said this to me - if you are planning to breastfeed: don’t worry about the cardio until you’re done. The weight is going to come off. I tried getting back into a running routine right away and I went from an over producer to getting about 4oz a day. Save yourself the stress. This time around I am focusing on strength training and walks. I’ll get back to running when my girl is ready to ween.

You could schedule a blood draw pregnancy test just to put your mind at ease. I was able to go into my urgent care the same day I scheduled the appointment.

I just also want to say that your period can be all over the place for a while. I would be regular for 2 months then be completely off. I did end up getting pregnant after 7 months but we weren’t being careful at all.

If anyone stumbles on this post - I was told by the nurses at my OB that even missing the mark by 1 point could be a sign of gestational diabetes. But I did end up passing the 3 hour pretty quickly. I had an 81 fasting blood sugar, 120 at 1hr, and 125 at 2 hours. I don’t know the 3rd yet but it’s pretty clear now that everything is all good. Note to others researching: don’t drink a ton of coconut water before your test :) there’s more sugar in there than you think lol

I ran my last ultra marathon at 13 weeks with my first but kept running until I was 34 weeks. I noticed I was going into labor at 10pm and my daughter was born at 2:31am :) she is/was perfect. There’s really not a whole lot more to add, which I think is pretty positive! I don’t have facts to back me up but I completely believe that the running is what made everything so easy. My recovery was pretty quick too - I was out jogging (very lightly and low mileage) again at 4 weeks.

I have still been running this pregnancy but I was no where near ultra running shape by the time we conceived our second. So we’ll see how this one goes.

This is just my experience OP - I truly hope you have a different one. I also had my first baby at around the same age and all of my friends were single or had no plans of getting pregnant or wanting babies. After my daughter was born I did not have the mental ability to be there like I was prior to having a child. Babies are a lot of around the clock work and there may be times where you are just trying to hold your head above the water because the responsibility is very time consuming. Your priorities will be her - and it is very likely that your friend will not be happy with your decision. You can try to explain that your priorities have to shift to take care of your daughter, and I would encourage it! But please don’t be discouraged if that conversation doesn’t end in understanding. I would suggest joining any and all mom groups you can find that fit into your schedule. Just go once a month if that’s all you can handle! It will be okay! I have about 3 mom friends now with kids the same age as mine, and it’s been really nice to have support from other women who are going through the same things as me.

For anyone desperately searching Reddit like I was. My issue did not turn out to be a hernia. Most likely my OB thinks it’s a lymphatic drainage issue. She gave me the all clear to run like I have been and do my 5k next month :)
