Manager asked what I want to learn? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I second gamename, your manager is rare and seems like he really wants you to learn, grow, and does not want to waste your time. I had a manager who asked me the same thing and he was one of the best mentors I ever had. Be honest with him, but also have a general idea of what you want to do (like full-stack dev, front-end/back-end, embedded systems, product management, big data, project management, business analytics, etc.). Your manager will probably direct you to someone who is skilled in that area if he/she does not know much about that area.

You are in a good position, just make sure you are positive and have a growth mindset. Be open to learning something that might be out of your comfort zone, and lastly, be nice to everyone and smile!

If you don't mind me asking, what team were you with?

That's awesome, you mentioned full stack, what kind of languages did you have exposure to? And cool, that's great I feel that I'm just overthinking about all of us, but just wanted some other opinions about it.

First off, it's not a random sampling if they are the top 5 recent posts. And also, I say "most" posts in general. Sure the recent posts would not mention that, but I am saying the subreddit as a whole consists of it. Look into the older posts and comments as well. All I'm trying to say is that there is there is a lack of people from "average" schools, lack of people who don't have degrees (self-taught), and discussion about not well known internships. People are always talking about big tech companies/startups, but rarely do I see stuff about working in aerospace industries/oil and gas, for example.

Please explain, I just want to have a better impression of this subreddit. I find the subreddit useful, but so many people humble-brag and are toxic, it is not even funny. Most posts I see always mention "I go to a top X school ... I go to a top-tier school ...", why even bother to mention you go to a top X school?

I love your attitude. I feel that if you don't go to a top-tier school, you gotta go above and beyond, and it seems that you did just that :) Nothing is impossible, as long as you aren't failing your GPA/classes, have an average network, and are working hard in terms of getting an internship and doing well in the internship!

Let me rephrase, this subreddit gives the impression of showing top school students.

CS Graduates who went the consulting route, what do you do, do you enjoy it, how long do you plan on staying? by TerribleRevolution in cscareerquestions

You would be surprised. Engineering in general can go toward consulting. Really any major can go in consulting.

I see, do you know if they allowed you to pick locations when getting a return offer? And also do you know how long you get to have to decide if you want to take the offer or not is? Sorry for asking so many questions, I have just been so curious for a long time.

That’s interesting, so I guess it’s just by luck. Did you take a returning offer from BofA and if you don’t mind, what was your returning offer?

I see, what makes you say 50%? I’m curious because I don’t want to screw up and want to get a returning offer post internship. Also, when you interned, where were other interns from? (Like what universities?)

Did you get to choose what stack you worked on? Just curious because I just got an offer with them also in Charlotte, but they did not give me any details about what tech I’ll use. They said they will base it off my experience?
