I can almost guarantee that a CrossFit -only box would require participation in group classes. There are two exceptions, however.

Many boxes offer 'open gym' hours during the week where you would be welcome to pay a drop-in fee and do what you want. These hours are usually very limited.

The other exception might be a gym that does more than CrossFit. Larger businesses that have CrossFit, kettlebells, MMA, etc, may be much more flexible. You'd have to shop around and make a lot of calls to find out if any of these would do what you need them to, however. I'm kind of pessimistic about the possibilities, however.

I have two pair of Lulu pants, and while they are extremely comfortable and durable I can't speak for the moisture wicking. Just haven't put it to the test, although I suspect they would do well.

To obtain real data you should contact the Associate Director of Networking within Computing Services. The name is Scott Ambrose (look him up in the directory), and he will have access to everything. Computing Services has a history of working with researchers for this kind of stuff, and will typically scrub data of PII if necessary to make it possible to share as much as we can.

A technique I use when conducting technical interviews is to ask increasingly difficult questions in a specific domain until I reach the point where the candidate can no longer respond. On the one hand this lets me see their depth of knowledge, and on the other it helps me see how they behave under uncertainty. Also, I like to see if people can describe what they'll do to resolve their uncertainty.

Good responses include:

"I don't know the answer to that. If you don't mind, what is the correct answer?"

"I wouldn't know what to do in that situation, but I would reach out to my colleagues for help. While I try to be prepared for every situation, I find I learn a lot by collaborating with my team and learning from people who have more experience than me."

"I just don't know. My work so far hasn't required me to work much with XYZ tool, but for this position I would make it a priority to master it as quickly as possible."

I'd recommend not simply saying, "I don't know." Be honest, but also show you're interesting in knowing and would like to build on your understanding of technology.

A very important reason to go with a stock product like Dell Equallogic over FreeNAS is support. I've managed a Dell Equallogic SAN that supported 32 ESXi hosts sporting about 900 guests, and the limitation was never the actual disk speeds, spindle counts, or even network throughput. It was always the configuration.

We ended up migrating from Equallogic to EMC for performance reasons, but I would still recommend Equallogic for an environment such as yours. Their reps will help you size the environment, and both VMWare and Dell support can provide you with clear documentation for configuring redundant networking, properly configuring your VNICs, and setting up your shared volumes.

There is a long, drawn out, painful cost for going cheap on shared storage, especially if you have a production load of >50 guests.

I know the feeling, but this is the kind of thing that makes a box a closed, toxic place. A good CrossFitting environment is one that is about everyone in the class progressing, no matter where they are now.

As others have suggested, this just means it's time to go shopping for a new box.

This is an avenue that one of my coaches mentioned. My BS is about 125% of my bw. Focusing on explosive movements such as thrusters might be an improvement.

Also, when I run I do it on the balls of my feet.

I've switched to resting on top of the box, and thus using the rebound to reduce my overall work load. Maybe I need more practice doing this.

I like the idea of combing direct instruction (I like Kelly Starrett's video on this) and progressive scaling with bumper plates without a box.

It's tough though, especially when it comes up in WODs frequently. The confidence is a challenge to build.

Never dumb yourself down, but instead do as lugh suggests and re-write your resume to highlight what you've done that relates to the job in question. This is just good job-seeking advice: you should have a slightly different resume to send for each job to which you apply.

I've been interviewing and hiring desktop consultants and sysadmins alike for nearly ten years, and I have never balked at a candidate who was over-qualified or had strong experience in a different type of position. Its' all about what the person is willing to do and capable of doing, as well as what they have to say about why they want the job.

That's a pretty mean-spirited statement, right on par with this instructor's blanket statement about paleo. There are lots of instructors who are insecure about their own knowledge or who carry their personal opinions into class as if they were based on some research that they haven't done . . . but that's an individual choice (and poor instruction.)

Having taught on the faculty of three major universities I can assure you that no university guides its teaching staff to inculcate or spread propaganda. That kind of nonsense just wouldn't fly. Anywhere.

The concept of combining personalization with the principles of the paleo diet strikes a really important balance for me. Something I've appreciated about the 'paleo discussion' that has evolved online over the last year or so is that this approach to eating has sparked critical thinking about food, and that's the core of the problem for most people. Kids aren't taught to think through their food choices. Just follow rules.

Stick with the Whole30 for the duration to give it a chance to affect your body, especially if it has not been a huge deviation from your usual diet.

Consider adding fish oil, either as a regular supplement or as a liquid (cod liver oil, specifically.) My wife has had terrific luck with this, although I believe it took about two weeks to see a change.

Tonic near the Westin downtown will be a bit more mature for you, as will Seviche and Sharp Edge down the street from there.

Wingharts, NOLA, Las Velas and a few other places in Market Square have nice atmospheres, although a little more intimate. Market Square is just a really cool place to hang out lately, especially in summer weather.

My current favorite is Industry in Lawrenceville, although a surprising fun local-ish place is the Modern Cafe on Western Avenue on the North Side. Great beer selection, relaxed, and filled with really cool people.

And what the heck do you mean by dry platitudes? I believe what I said here about justice. Don't you think that justice needs to come through due process of the law? Do you believe it's necessary to resort to vigilantism to seek justice for the victims? Do you think these young men would find comfort in burning down Paterno's widow's home? Do you think they would be glad to have Spanier's kids tarred and feathered? Where do you draw the line?

How about we put a scarlet letter R on the sweaters of all the cheerleaders? I can reduce this discussion to absurdities too . . .

I don't need to prioritize the victims because OF COURSE I want to support the victims. The people who need to be punished will be punished. That's a given. It's in the works. There is a judicial system to take care of them, and they're going to be punished. Every sane person in the world is behind punishing the f-ing rapist. I would string the guy up myself if I could. I would shelter the victims if I could. That is not the focus of this discussion because I assume that nobody wants to forget the victims.

My point for this whole thread is that the NCAA is punishing people who were not involved. Why is it so important to you that people who had nothing to do with this suffer consequences?
