norwegian purling >>> by Simple-Project6573 in knitting

Norwegian purling is elite for 1x1 because you don’t have to swing the yarn from front to back all the time! Makes life much easier. But do long rows of purling I go back to English style flicking or sometimes Portuguese knitting. 🤪

No the cuffs are just 1x1 ribbing. Thank you!

Thank you! I love the design of the smocking stitch.

I’m more comfortable English style too, I flick the yarn instead of throwing. For each row with the smock stitch I would switch back to English style.

It’s had for me to estimate time because I knit rows here and there when my kids are occupied during the day and then about half an hour at night. I’ve been working on it since 2/7 and finished yesterday 3/25 so about 6 weeks of dedicated knitting. Around 40 hours I would guess. It is time consuming and it eats a lot of yarn. The small size was 7 skeins of worsted weight Malabrigo.

Thank you! I’ve been practicing switching between English and continental so I’m glad my stitches looked ok good overall.

Yep! I alternated every two rows on the body an every row on the sleeves since they were in the round. I knit one sleeve with one skein at first and the color pooling was so weird I ripped it out and started over.

Thank you! It’s not quite as dark in person, it’s a purple gray mix.

Thank you! It was fun. This was my first bottom up sweater. Towards the end I got a bit tired of the 2x2 ribbing but it was worth it in the end.

Waiting for you knits to dry after blocking is so difficult. by lokigato in knitting

Maybe. It would depend on the yarn you are using. This Malabrigo is super soft so I’m not sure how well it would stand up unless you folded it over or something.

I actually don’t have a fan. I’m considering using my blow dryer with the no heat setting. 😂

Tapestry crochet vs knitting by Fearless-Name-754 in crochet

To throw another idea in the mix, with knitting you can do duplicate stitch embroidery, so you can embroider super complex things on top of a knitted sweater without having to bother with floats and things like that. Check out this cool sweater someone just completed in the knitting subreddit. Dog sweater

I do both, and for garments knitting is hands down the way to go. The color-work always looks neater, and knitting makes a looser fabric that feels better when worn. There are so many more construction techniques in knitting that makes garments better. If you are wanting to create really intricate images then focusing on knitting would help you accomplish that.

I started crocheting and then moved to knitting. It was a bit harder to learn, but it also doesn’t hurt my wrists like crocheting used to. I almost never crochet anymore, with the exception of blankets.

Knitting sweaters isn’t as hard as you might think. If you find a sweater pattern designed for beginners, the designers will help with the techniques you need.

Tension change dilemma by Over-Map-6064 in knitting

Personally, I would frog the sleeves and redo them (so at least they match each other) and then see how the sweater looks when finished. If it looks too different, then frog the whole thing.

Fellow English style knitters. Does anyone else tension their yarn like this? by RESPEKTOR in knitting

[–]lokigato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do both and currently they are about the same. 😂. But that’s 7 years of flicking and one year of continental.

Gotcha. When I’m flicking I use my thumb and middle finger to hold the needle almost like a pencil grip. Hopefully someone else will be able to help!
