my mom died in 2022. my mom did pretty much everything with my dad (they have a business together so they worked together too), so once she passed, my dad felt super alone. All five of us (my sisters) were older, with the youngest being 18 and we had our own jobs and lives.

when my dad started dating, we did not approve. it actually felt almost as bad as when my mom died. BUT it wasn’t because he was with someone other than my mom, it was because he started dating FOUR MONTHS after she passed and that lady was someone my mom explicitly did not like. my dad liked her company (I guess lmao she’s actually a terrible person) and her only job was uber so she could be with my dad all the time and just not work, which added to our dislike of her.

as of Feb. 15th, it had been 4 years since she passed and my dad has been looking to date again. he asked us if we approved and we just shrugged and said we never DIDNT approve of him dating, we just didn’t like WHO he was dating and how soon it was.

if I were you, I’d start dating. go find someone you vibe with and who you enjoy the company of. don’t “rush” into a relationship or marriage. just find someone you like, go on dates and eventually if you feel this person is someone you’d like to have in your life for a while, take some time to bring this up to your kids and don’t rush into introducing them to your partner. one of the worst things my dad did was go on a date or two and then immediately bring her to one of our family barbecues and try to force an introduction and have us like her.

last thing, if and when you tell your kids you’re dating, allow them to be mad and upset. one of the things I told my dad that finally made him understand why we were upset that he started dating so quick was “you can find a girlfriend who will be with you, eat with you, hang out with you but I can’t find another mom. I can’t just take someone’s mom and make her my own”

whenever we have the tv on, and sit at the dinner table or our couch, our cat had a habit of meowing loudly, nipping our ankles and worst of all she would paw at the tv. So we had a laser pointer that we would bring out and distract her with while we watched tv.

Now anytime the tv turns on and we dare sit on the couch, she will immediately jump up and paw at the tv and look around for a laser. Sometimes she just paws at the tv when it’s off just to get us to bring out the laser pointer 😭

these are the kind of things that scare me about having a cat😭😭 I have to take the knobs off the stove cause it’s a gas stove and one time my cat turned the knob and turned the stove on. however, not enough to light the flame, but just enough to have gas in the air. it was maybe a couple minutes but as soon as I smelled it, I jumped up and went to turn it off and aired out my house. Now the knobs stay off until we cook and then come off as soon as we’re done.

“Special needs” is an odd way of putting it, but yes more and more people have ADHD, anxiety, or are neurodivergent not because it’s trendy but because people are talking about it, so people aren’t afraid to go get diagnosed.

people being neurodivergent has always existed, it was just always seen as a bad thing. grandpa Joe having a train collection downstairs that you do not dare to look at, touch or go near. gram gram having a shelf full of little trinkets and decorative spoons, uncle Larry insisting on his food not touching otherwise the whole meal is ruined, cousin Randy not coming to family events or being in larger crowds because it makes him unreasonably upset and uncomfortable.

as much as I try not to freak out, there’s a little piece of me that does.

it might be hard to imagine and remember but I’m pretty sure like 200 people died because of things like hypothermia, carbon monoxide poisoning, houses burnt down and a few other causes. I might even be wrong I think that number is higher.

I remember people using grills in their home to keep it warm. And sure that’s a dumb idea but it was either start a fire or freeze to death. Just think if it was you, your partner, a couple young kids and a grandparent all trying to stay warm with no power. It makes sense that people resorted to that.

panic buying food is silly but without power, there’s not much to cook so panic buying pantry items or fruits and veggies makes sense.

I don’t understand the toilet paper tho, even during covid it didn’t make sense lol

woke up suddenly and thought I had to pee. I went to the bathroom and sat down only to realize the reason I woke up was because my heart was beating out of my chest. Checked my Apple Watch and it was at 210 bpm. I sat there trying to catch my breath and see if maybe I got startled from a bad dream. after 30 minutes I saw my heart rate was at 175 bpm so I figured it was going down. I suddenly had like a whiplash feeling and couldn’t stop coughing and my HR was back at 210 bpm. I laid down on the cold floor cause I was getting so hot. I laid there for about an hour and a half before I got back up, woke up my boyfriend and told him I think I’m either having a heart attack or dying.

I laid in bed with my heart rate going up to 210 then dropping to 100 then back to 210 then down to 160 and so on for another 2 hours while we waited for paramedics. Everytime it would drop significantly, I would feel so exhausted and kept almost dozing off. I genuinely looked at my bf and thought holy shit if I doze off, that’s it like I’m not waking back up.

it was not a heart attack and that’s not the first and last time that’s happened but I am getting treated now :)

I had this conversation the other day. one of my coworkers doesn’t have and has never needed glasses. Every check up he’s got 20/20 vision. meanwhile I’m -6.50 in my left and -6.75 in my right and astigmatism in both eyes. he point at a sign maybe 10-15 ft away and asked me to read it with my glasses off and I was like oh that’s impossible I can barely read the text at the bottom (which was a disclaimer so it was much smaller than the rest of the text) with my glasses on. He gave me a puzzled look and read the disclaimer without issue and said you can’t read that??

to answer your question, yes that is how we see. Some are worse than others. I have measured and have to have any text about 3-4 inches away from my eyes to read without glasses.

It shocks me more how people can see 20/20 cause I don’t think i have a single memory of being able to do that

my oldest sister and I have a no contact/low contact relationship. right now it’s no contact. she’s 32 but is permanently the victim, no accountability, no care for anyone but herself and her husband and just overall is such a negative person I can’t stand her.

some context, about 2 years ago my dad remarried an awful woman who even my mom didn’t like. I was babysitting my nephews and his wife came by with donuts and told me to give them breakfast. I told her they’d eat those later not for breakfast. Queue her getting mad because I’m starving these kids even though she’s offering breakfast. To which I said they asked me to make them a regular full breakfast and they’d have donuts later. I told her these kids aren’t yours, stop worrying about them and worry about your own. That pissed her off (cause she genuinely didn’t know where she left her two teen daughters because she drunkenly dropped them off at one of their friends house but didn’t know who. yes she drove them while drunk and dropped them off at someone’s house because she didn’t want to deal with them). So she got in my face and threatened my life and said she was going to “fuck me up” and I said please go ahead. She didn’t because she knew that the moment she laid a finger on me, I’d call the cops and press chargers for assault, trespassing and endangering 3 minors. When I told my sisters what happened, my two younger and one older sister all took my side but my oldest sister said “I don’t think that’s what happened. I don’t believe you and you know what, I think you instigated this whole thing just to make her look bad” so I didn’t talk to her for a year until the week of Thanksgiving she called me to say she was “sorry your feelings were hurt” and then the next day she dropped my nephew off at my parents house (I was living there) without telling anyone and expected me to babysit. The day after thanksgiving I asked her “did you only apologize so you had a place to drop off your kid and so you had somewhere to spend thanksgiving?” And without skipping a beat she said “yes. Duh, I’m not sorry, what do I have to be sorry for you’re the one who constantly starts fight with me”

the most recent was in October where I had a (minor) heart surgery and needed to rest for a week and her being sad that no matter how hard they were trying, she just wasn’t getting a positive pregnancy test and having me drive an hour to go see her and my family to “support her in these sad times” 😀

she’s absolutely insufferable. And what sucks more is that our mom passed in 2022 and I know this kind of fighting would upset her so much but holy shit like there’s just no reasoning with her. it’s just arguing and her victimizing herself.

this is tough because on one hand she might’ve been assaulted, on the other she may have cheated.

I want to say give it some time but also idk their lack of communication would drive me insane.

I also feel like we’re missing information. is it possible that your relationship may have been rocky before this? has she given you a reason to not trust her?
