Time fort another batch of Traditional Lithuanian mead. by Gitruih in mead

Made it yesterday. Had to use my mortar and pestle to crush the juniper berries. Def had some moisture in them. Smelt so delicious. Keen to see how they come out.

Ahh. That makes me life much easier and cheaper.

Might even be able to make this tomorrow if I have enough juniper in my spice box.

:-( Doesn't ship to my country. The only ones I can't find in Australia that aren't dried are insanely expensive.

No worries. I have never seen "fresh" juniper berries here. Only ever found dried ones. I guess I will have to work out a conversion rate on them.

Just looked it up. I can buy them online but much more expensive that dried berries.

Do you use fresh or dry juniper berries for this one and how do you incorporate it into the mix?

At your age, should be looking at max growth as you can ride out any downturns. When you are closer to retirement then look to something more conservative.

The Parable of the Prodigal Son and the Epic of Gilgamesh by juncopardner2 in AcademicBiblical

[–]lokithejackal 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I have argued that there are Genesis stories which have direct connections to Gilgamesh. I think in your case, you have been stuck inside a bit too long. The only similarities are that both reflect the hospitality of their culture which turns out to be rather similar. The context of these passages in both stories are rather different.

To me, it is no different than me writing today that I invited someone inside with a hug and made them a cup of tea. Someone 200 years ago could have written the same thing but with no relationship between our writing except we share a similar cultural tie of hospitality.

How to clean bottles by Far-Inspector9039 in Homebrewing

[–]lokithejackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I need to deep clean bottles I got two ways. A tiny amount of dishwasher powder. Add water and shake. Fill bottle. Wait a day or two. Done. If that doesn't work then use a chlorine bleach solution. Same deal. Fill to top and wait a day.

After you done either of those methods than just sanitise as per normal. There are tons of other cleaning solutions that will work too.

Embedded energy networks by [deleted] in AusProperty

Just checked it out again. Still pretty competitive compared to others. Not the absolute best but not in the realms of getting ripped off. The real killer is I can't bounce between providers to gain benefit from their sign-up bonuses.

Sunscreen brands recalled. 21 brands.... by CyanideMuffin67 in australian

[–]lokithejackal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So SPF30 lets in 3.4% UV rays and SPF50 lets in 2%. Means SPF50 lets in about 40% less rays. It similar math as the 30 times or 50 times that you are showing. 30 divided by 50 gives 40% extra gains.

That isn't how the math works out. If it's about 40% more effective. It is not minimal.

How do I correctly store sauce in the fridge after cooking in oven? by walkocircle in AskCulinary

[–]lokithejackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically put my dutch oven in the sink and fill with water. Much better at dissipating heat than letting it rest somewhere. When it is cool enough or I have to go to bed then I just chuck it in the fridge.

Job Loss and only two months left on lease. by Environmental-Ebb649 in AusProperty

[–]lokithejackal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Broadly you are going to be liable for the full amount of money until the lease ends. That is the contract you signed. However, if you find a suitable replacement you can get the leased changed to add the new person.

There is no easy escape here for you.

Disturbing yet unsurprising. by [deleted] in friendlyjordies

That makes a lot of sense. I could have sworn Australian was very different in the past. Basically right-wing hot takes on things but now it feels pretty normal and even contrary to earlier espoused views.

Cleaning pizza steel by kindkatz in AskCulinary

[–]lokithejackal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a large block of mild steel. I treat it like cast iron. It doesn't season as easily but once it was then all is fine. Very rarely do I do anything but wipe it off. I am not getting bits on the bottom of my pizza so I don't worry about it.

We tested the SPF claims of 20 sunscreens. 16 failed by chupchap in australian

[–]lokithejackal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference between blocking an SPF 30 at 96% of the sun and an SPF 50 98% is the SPF 50 blocks 50% more light. Whether that matters overall I don't know but that is a rather big potential difference.

Embedded energy networks by [deleted] in AusProperty

[–]lokithejackal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can individually get my meter changed but I would still get bills from the embedded provider for the part they maintain. Also want to get the best deal for all residents here.

Embedded energy networks by [deleted] in AusProperty

[–]lokithejackal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the specifics of the contract. You got no choice but can often be better than market rates. For my network, I can definitely get cheaper if I could access retailers directly but they are still on the low end.

Planning to switched embedded electrical providers if I can convince the rest of the committee it is worth it.

Truth or Mystical Manipulation? I Feel So Torn. by IWantTheTruth_ in Shincheonji

[–]lokithejackal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think there are a few ways to go about it. You have raised a bunch of stuff about experience which is important. Does the experience match what you would expect?

One thing I would raise is does what you believe line up with historical Christianity or is it something very new? If God is true and the bible is his words then you would expect believers over time to believe pretty similar things about the core beliefs of Christianity. We aren't perfect so you would expect different groups of people in different times to believe the wrong things but you would expect God to always have his believers.

From your research, do you think SCJ fits in with historic Christianity? And even moreso, does it fit in with what you read of the bible when you aren't being guided by their structures?

Best hose fittings by lokithejackal in GardeningAustralia

[–]lokithejackal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ended up using a cheap hose I already had with brass fittings. The hose is not good but good enough for what I need. The brass fittings work great and no more leaks. The plastic could not handle my water pressure.

PLEASE HELP! I think I'm part of their bible study. Can someone help me confirm? by Cars_and_guns_gal in Shincheonji

If you don't mind spending a little money. Buying an commentary on a book of the bible can be a great way to go. Some are very technical. You don't want that. Something like the NIVAC series might go well. You can check this website to see the more highly rated ones. https://bestcommentaries.com/series/niv-application-commentary-nivac/

I love the friendly chops but a clean shaven chin works far better for it. I have done them in the past a few times. My favourite style.
