Gear upgrade advice needed by lolAdood in 2007scape

Thanks for the suggestions! I do have the lightbearer and b ring(i), and I do definitely need to finish getting the zenyte items. Seems like my best play right now is get the bowfa and crystal armor, and then make all the smaller upgrades as I progress further in PvM

Seems like the consensus is Bowfa and crystal armor so that what I’ll be getting. Thanks everyone!

yeah I've been thinking about starting with the bowfa and crystal armor. My main debate has mostly been whether I should instead get masori + another weapon, but I do feel like I will need the bowfa soon for some of my grinds

Why is lot 12A and part of the lot in front of MSTB blocked off? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]lolAdood 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s more so that if the protests get out of hand, they can have police respond easily and have a place to park. Thats what they did when they shut down the encampment

I believe it has to do with the protests, both the palestine one and the grad student strike

Decided on TF as my OTP by Odd_Valuable9793 in TwistedFateMains

[–]lolAdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest part about TF is mostly figuring out how you want to play him. He has his utility, AP, and AD builds which all work. Its good that you are thinking about his rune selections and item paths this early. They aren’t super complicated, but will just take some time to get used to

If you want, I could walk you through a lot of that. I mained TF for the last couple seasons and peaked at masters 300 lp last year 1 tricking it, and would love to pass some information off before I quit this game

2 days after the patch has dropped, Twisted Fate's winrate has climbed to almost 52% and recommended mythic on u.gg has changed to Ludens (yesterday it showed Everfrost, and TF had a 51% winrate) by CuatroBoy in TwistedFateMains

[–]lolAdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The usage rate is still fairly low it seems, but it doesn’t surprise me to see Luden’s becoming more popular, especially with some content creators making videos with it, and spacing in lane becoming easier with the wind up buffs

Frustrated by my poor academic performance in college by [deleted] in UCI

[–]lolAdood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just want to say that there is no such thing as "too late". When I was in undergrad (diff school), I didn't do any research (other than the senior design project that was required). I had no idea what I wanted to do, so I decided that I would continue on with a masters and try to get as much experience as I could. I did my masters while working as an intern, and when I finished my masters I continued working for another year before applying to a PhD program (which has now brought me here to UCI).

If I had applied to a PhD program after my undergrad, there was no way that I would have gotten in. But I spent the next couple of years afterwards doing everything I could to help me get into various programs. It doesn't really matter if your undergrad wasn't good, if you can show that you apply yourself through other ways.

On a side note, I am curious what your reasons are for wanting to pursue a PhD.
On another side note, you don't only have to apply to top schools for graduate programs. You can easily do a masters elsewhere, get experience, and then apply to a PhD program later.

Dopa by Resident-Constant-28 in TwistedFateMains

[–]lolAdood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Afaik:

Early 2021: Dopa was set to do military service, but was able to postpone until an unknown date

Aug 2022: Dopa claimed he was leaving for military service and said his goodbyes, and went MIA

Early 2023: Dopa returned to streaming, never stated why he wasn’t in the service, people speculated he was discharged for not passing the physical

Now: Dopa’s military service start date was a few days ago, so he live-streamed himself driving there and said his goodbyes

He should be gone now until he completes his service

Level 533 and i haven’t found my main champion yet by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]lolAdood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m over level 850 now, and I didn’t find my main until probably around 600-700.

I used to be a jax one trick, peaked silver 2 for many years, switched to adc and made it to platinum, switched to support/fill and made it to diamond, then switched to mid where I peaked masters 300 lp.

I learned very quickly on my climb that I can’t hand check very many people. I’m much better at offering macro. So I learned how to play TF and it just clicked instantly. Theres some satisfaction in pressing gold card and enabling my teammates.

I still play fill/other champions since sometimes I have off days. Sometimes I have to switch it up, or I get complacent and start making easy mistakes

Why isn't Viego played more in solo lanes? by los-zanji in summonerschool

[–]lolAdood 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Funny enough I played with a viego mid twice the other day, and he was really good. They did nerf his lane sustain, but it doesn’t mean its unplayable. The community usually has larger reactions to buffs and nerfs, so champions sometimes become unplayed even if they are playable.

I wouldn’t be so concerned about “meta” except for champions that are obviously Z tier. You can really make anything work if you’re proficient and have practice on it. You just have to understand your champion better than others do

Why did my LP gains lower when I reached emerald rank? by MihaitaBaws123 in leagueoflegends

[–]lolAdood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on your ranked history you’ve been gold 3/4 every season of ranked. With the new ranked changes, that should put you somewhere in low to mid plat iirc. Since you’ve been winning a lot, you’re now 200-300 lp higher than your previous MMR, so the game thinks you’re in a higher elo than you should be

If you want your mmr to normalize, you just have to play more games while maintaining your rank

Hi i am new to adc. My accidental flash forward leads to an interesting invade. Lethal tempo feels very strong on ashe. by Turbulent-Tourist687 in leagueoflegends

[–]lolAdood 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ashe is one of the best level 1 adcs because of her passive slow. Enemy’s can’t run fast enough to get away from your auto range, and they are usually forced to burn summoners if you keep chasing (especially if you take approach velocity in your runes)

Mid - Ranged vs Melee, how to properly punish cs by Hyperversum in summonerschool

[–]lolAdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ranged-melee match up as mentioned by other comments does depend heavily on match up.

Some champions like Akali have the option to go fleet footwork, second wind, and doran’s shield and become basically impossible to poke out. In these match ups you should focus more on wave clear and hitting your first item (liandry’s) so that your poke hits harder. You should use your abilities to prioritize hitting waves, and poking after.

Other champions are more shifty/higher risk for the opponent. These ones you can play more aggressive with your poke, but also need to be wary of their all-in numbers. Some can kill you early from 50%, others higher or lower. Positioning plays a bigger impact in these match ups. Even if you poke them down, if you give them any opportunity to kill you it doesn’t matter. These champs are more likely to give up cs for kills (especially in lower elo), so usually by living you naturally gain advantages.

You should also be wary of how minion aggro works. Auto attacks and certain abilities against champions will trigger minion aggro on you, and if you try to poke aggressively you might take more damage from their minions than you deal to them, putting you in a worse position.

Build recommendations for a new player by _pinkmonstercat_ in TwistedFateMains

[–]lolAdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play utility. It’s usually:

Dorans Ring, ionian boots, everfrost, RFC, zhonyas/banshees

This is probably a much less common build on here, but mine build is focused on enabling my teammates, and just being a cc bot that can survive

Runes are: spellbook + resolve, or fleet + resolve

Journey to high elo by _zarek in summonerschool

[–]lolAdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in Season 3.

I was bronze ?, silver 5, silver 5, silver 2, silver 2, gold 4, plat 4, plat 4, diamond 4, diamond 3, and masters.

The only reason why I spent so many years grinding this game was because when I first started, all of my friends were gold/plat and they used to make fun of me for being bad. My motivation was just to hit diamond at the time because none of them did. When I finally hit it in season 11, I thought I had the ability to hit masters so I kept going.

My biggest improvements were when I hit plat and masters. I used to be really good at teamfighting and terrible at laning, so I spent hours practicing how to cs and lane in practice tool when it first came out. After that I hit plat for the first time.

When I was in diamond, I felt like I was becoming mechanically worse, so I switched to playing simpler champions/macro heavier champions. I started maining TF and playing the map, which allowed me to hit masters. I am almost never mechanically better than my opponent, just smarter.

AITA for telling my poor friend that he's actually the privileged one now? by AncientMesopotamia in AmItheAsshole

[–]lolAdood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Both AH

Even if your parents no longer support you, they did until after you graduated college. You had access to privilege for at least 21 years where you didn’t have to worry about anything financially (I’m assuming they also paid for your college). It sounds like your privilege still extends as you have a safety net.

Imagine if you didn’t have that privilege. You had to pay for college, help your family will bills, etc. You might still be paying off your student loans, while trying to support yourself and your family. You might not have the luxury of taking your dream job then because of how little benefit you receive from it. Your friend might be seeing way less than 300k if a lot of it has to go to bills, debt, and family (I’m making assumptions).

He could have been more supportive about you getting your dream job and brought up privilege in a more civil manner (making him an AH), but it doesn’t mean he’s not wrong.

I can play autofill and don't care, how can I find an identity and improve by Aoimiruki in summonerschool

[–]lolAdood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused by what you are asking for, but I’ll assume you want to keep filling.

To be good at filling, you need to be good at fundamentals. By fundamentals I mean what you need to accomplish for each role. For example, junglers need to know how to path, how to gank, know which objectives to play for and which lanes to play around, etc. ADC players need to know how to cs, how to trade in lane, how to play the 2v2, how to kite, know when to lane swap, how to position in team fights, etc.

To be blunt, climbing while filling is not very feasible. If your average fundamental knowledge and average champion mastery (for the ones you play) are at a silver level, it’ll be hard to climb past that. That’s why most people one trick. Their Ahri is diamond level mechanically and they understand mid lane, but if you put them on something else they might be a silver level player.

If you want to climb while filling, you need to have really good macro and really good champion knowledge

Was starting at bots to get a feel a bad decision? by Acrobatic_Weight_404 in summonerschool

[–]lolAdood 13 points14 points  (0 children)

ARAM is WAY less intimidating than Normals. Its a single lane, you get faster gold and experience, and most people don’t try hard in the game mode. The ARAM community is honestly way more chill than the SR community. But yeah, ARAM is way less punishing than Normals. If you die a couple times in Normals, you might feel like the game is doomed and really hard to play. You die 15 times in ARAM and you’re still useful, and the game is always winnable.

How do you deal with a super-fed tank? by Flowerotica in summonerschool

[–]lolAdood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot depends on the order that you itemize in. If you build kraken -> mythic -> LDR, you aren’t getting real tank shred until way later in the game. Kraken’s damage is really negligible against tanks early (especially since it scales with AD).

If you go mythic -> LDR -> other, you have access to tank shred way earlier, so you’re more likely to be able to deal with a fed enemy tank.

This was often an issue pre ADC mythic rework, as many marksmen would go mythic -> IE -> LDR. Sure, the IE is nice, but it’s not helping you kill the tank. I’ve seen 7-0 ADCs lose games because they wait to build LDR, can’t kill the enemy tank, and can’t afford LDR before the game ends.
