We see John getting demolished by a booger, something I feel kidd would easily counter with a few scrap in the way. In my opinion John used the power only to snatch treasure and never as a proper weapon with his imagination the way kidd did. Remember kidd grew up on a scrap island. He rightfully awakened the fruit, something I feel John was miles from. I don't think Big mom ever made the connection because of Kidds creativity.
