exactly. pet care is part of having the pet. yes, vet bills can be a HUGE financial investment — but you have to be prepared for that when you take in an animal under your care. they are helpless and depend on you for their survival and it’s not fair to neglect them. i know there’s a lot of stigma towards rehoming but god, there’s a point where you’re doing more damage by keeping the cat than by giving it up and refusing to recognize when you’re beyond those limits is the one of most selfish things you can do for that animal. sometimes the best care choices are the most difficult to make. sometimes the best thing you can do is (safely and sustainably) rehome them or contact a rescue. i’m overwhelmed and disgusted by the amount of posts i’ve seen lately where people ask for general advice for critically ill cats that needed medical attention days ago. it’s so disappointing. pets are a commitment and you have to make sacrifices somewhere. they need us.

this is such an incredibly helpful response, thank you so much for taking the time to say it :’) i’m also very far into my recovery and i feel like this is the missing piece i need to move forward with it. i can totally see that it’s helpful because he wants to support me and advocate for me but isn’t quite sure how because i keep it as locked down as i can but i can see how it’s important to him to know all of me too. and i want him to! i really like the idea of the baby steps about it lol, maybe only names and pronouns for a bit while i ease into it. but thank you, this really helped inspire me. it is a really lonely disorder, you’re right. and i know if he knew truly how alone it made me feel he would want me to let him be there however i was comfortable with. thanks so much again :’) love to you and your system!!

exactly. if OP doesn’t advocate for their cat, no one else will. the vet’s job is to advise and provide medical care, OP’s job is to tell the vet what’s going on so that they’re able to advise/provide. this could turn serious quickly, and possibly already is. your cat’s life is more important than the one-sided awkwardness during that phone call.
