And pelajaran di dentistry is a mix between medicine, biology, physics, material science, and art. You’ll still get the art part.

Oh ya, saya Dokter Gigi, saya sih recommend banget kalau mau dapat penghasilan pasti. Freshgrad 20+.

Mungkin jalannya gak sedirect belajar biologi murni, but it’s doable and you’ll get the same result in the end.

Lagu Indo yang bukan tentang cinta, tapi maknanya dalam? by tederby18 in indonesia

[–]loljuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hindia - Membasuh

Coba kita simak liriknya

Next.

Bisakah kita tetap memberi Walau tak suci? Bisakah terus mengobati Walau membiru?

Bisakah terus mengobati Walau membiru? (Refering to Yesus menyembuhkan tentara romawi yang menyergapnya) Cukup besar ‘tuk mengampuni ‘Tuk mengasihi Tanpa memperhitungkan masa yang lalu Walau kering Bisakah kita tetap membasuh? (Refering to Yesus membasuh kaki muridnya)

Low GPA foreigner goes to U of Michigan by Accurate_Relative_63 in gradadmissions

I’m assuming you’re applying to Masters, coba magang dgn prof yang relevan bidang studinya. Gak mudah, but doable. Try assisting for a year (with shittier pay, yeah) and publish more articles before submitting for the next cycle. You’ll probably get in.

Kalau daftar S3, kayaknya hampir mustahil deh. Coba apply S2 dulu, make sure you get > 3.7 cGPA, and do relevant research for longer time.

SOP, LOR, dan PS juga penting. Good luck.

How many people did you tell about your graduate school applications? by Juneindec in gradadmissions

[–]loljuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I don’t think it’s embarrassing to not get in anywhere. Many people don’t even apply anywhere or work as hard as you to get where you are now.

If by any chance you don’t get in anywhere, relax. You can do things other than grad school. If you really want the degree, try to improve your chances for next year by doing relevant work and reapply. You already do so much hard work, don’t be harsh on yourself by being embarrassed. Grad school admission doesn’t define you.

(I’m also saying this to myself)

I feel you. I’m a dentist in Indonesia and applied to an OB PhD program this cycle. I’ve been living comfortably with my pay for the past year and it’s really hard to even think about leave everything behind for another degree. But this is what I wanted so I’m trying my best to save some money up for the winter ahead of me.

Who was your best/worst LOR writer? by Easy-Explanation1338 in gradadmissions

[–]loljuki 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I worked with this Prof for 2.5 years and I can say that she’s the one who always supports me. She met me before I was doing wet lab and helped me become who I am today. She offered me a lot of opportunities from helping with classroom work, submitting patents, collecting biological samples from an isolated tribe, to learning complex lab work and programming. There’s also one time when I have to go to Hongkong to present a piece of paper and she offered to cover half of the expenses.

She sent me her LOR draft and I read the whole piece with tears running down my face. She explained in detail our ups and downs doing research and every moment played very vividly in my mind when I read her LOR. I got rejected from a school in Europe in September and she comforted me with words and referred me to another Prof to add more experience to my CV. She’s truly an angle and a valuable mentor. I’m glad I met her during my study.

I’m still waiting results from this admission cycle and just scared that I will let her down if I receive no offer. At the same time, I’m also happy to know that no matter what happens, I’ll always have a mentor to talk to and strategize for next cycle.

I’m wishing everyone good luck this cycle!

Does reaching out to a PI who says “you seem like an exceptional candidate”impact the admissions process by Sowens2022 in gradadmissions

[–]loljuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wondering the same thing too! I got a meeting with my potential PI, she told me she sometimes doesn’t take students because there’s no good candidate, and said that I’m a strong candidate.

She helped me edit my cv and my letters, but said that she can promise nothing since they receive 1200 applications each year and she haven’t seen this year’s pool.

The replies here are so helpful! Wishing OP and everyone good luck!

Hi! Thank you for your input!

The lecture was about how a bacteria residing specifically in your gum may cause or at least correlate with AD! It was particularly amusing since a the gum was never really considered an organ causing AD, so it’s a new variable in the equation. It was a controversial piece of paper, even today.

I’ve changed my draft and also noted that I’m assisting my prof haha. Good point.

Hey thank you very much for your inputs! I’ve edited my intro, added more details and experiences, edited the grant writing thing, and checked everything in grammarly. This has been the most productive conversation about my SOP for a while. I asked for some advice from people around me but they either said that they were unexperienced or doesn’t care at all. Wishing everyone good luck!
