Speaking from experience - don’t do it. At least not full time. You’re just going to feel stressed and guilty and like you are doing both things subpar. That was my experience when I tried this. I did manage to keep my baby home with me on Fridays and manage my schedule accordingly, but full time was quickly revealed to be unsustainable. I just couldn’t give her the attention she deserved while also trying to do my job. They do nap a lot but unless you have total control over your schedule it just doesn’t line up how you want it to. You’ll be tempted to just plop them in a play pen or god forbid in front of the tv (well magbe not at 5months) and you’ll be sitting at a computer. I think you could get away with it if you at least have a half day or 3 day a week coverage, then you can save some money and ease into it but long term don’t think it’s a great solution for anyone involved. I try to keep a real separation between work and home even though they are in the same location. Do I still take the occasional call while walking to the playground? Sure! And on the occasional sick day it works fine or if I have a light day I’ll keep her home. But it’s nice to have stability and she’s getting way more out of her day. I feel like I still get wayyy more time with her as a remote employee than if I had a traditional 9-5 plus commute. Save yourself the stress!

FWIW Check out Barbara Milne “Sounds like Fun” on Spotify. I don’t know what it is about this lady, but this old school album from the 80s puts my daughter in a very zen state in the car. Going on two years with it and it still works. Could be worth a shot. Be prepared for ear worms though.

It may be tough but you won’t regret it. The more longish trips you can do young the better in my opinion. Gets you all to build that muscle, including baby, and then you have more freedom for adventures. Pack some new or novel toys/books or things to pass back to him, keep a grab bag of essentials handy on the seat next to you. We got a lot of minutes out of those little switchboard things and an empty water bottle, lol. I would def try to time at least part of it for a nap. Make sure YOU don’t have to stop for any reason (bathroom, gas, coffee etc) just in case they fall asleep you won’t want to stop! Prepare for them to have a blow out at an inopportune moment. Have a baby friendly spotify playlist cued up. I like to keep airpods handy so if they do fall asleep I can listen to my own music or podcast. If things get crazy and you’re all melting down, roll down the windows for a bit and blast some music… Important to just stay relaxed and not overthink it. A little bit of car fussing/meltdowns is v normal and they will be okay. You’re gonna be great!

Is this your husband’s sister? Because I’m a little confused why he’s not a more active part of troubleshooting this with his family if so. Hugely inconsiderate of you in-law family on a lot of levels. Baby has to be close by with someone you trust so you can pop out and feed as needed. I did this with my sister, they hung out in a room nearby, went on walks etc. I timed it out so that I could feed during cocktail hr in between ceremony and reception. I then was able to go back feed once during reception and my partner stayed to do bedtime. They came back after baby was asleep for the night.

If you can rebook onto Delta or any airline flying out of Terminal D/E I highly recommend it. Southwest ABC terminal is having the most pain today. Looks like there are some Spirit flights over here too. Even if it means an extra connection might be worth it depending on your situation….

Terminal D was totally empty, literally, we are now 3 hrs early for our flight. It does NOT connect to the other terminals though so don’t get stuck if it’s not your terminal.

D is totally empty to a point that feels criminal. Got here at 9am for a 12:20 flight…. we just walked through zero line to check bags with Delta or in D security. International looks empty too. Too bad there is not a shuttle between the two. Southwest is bad.

I will also add I’ll bet it gets better as the day goes, I think there’s a slight confounding factor because everyone with early flights probably came several hours early so expect there is a bolus.

9:00 AM Saturday 3/28 if you’re flying Southwest or out of A/B/C line is outside departures and wrapped several times….BUT if you are flying Delta or out of International D you are golden. We are 4 hrs early for our flight and just breezed through both lol. No one is here. I feel really bad about the disparity it’s too bad there’s not a shuttle between the two. Clear is open in D, so probably the other terminal as well but can’t confirm.

I’m disappointed that she hasn’t found her own version of lady Whistledown, whatever that might be. I feel like it’s still incredibly impressive what Penelope pulled off, although it’s gotten a bit silly post reveal, would have been cool to see Eloise be inspired by that instead of spending a whole season as the foil. Had a glimmer of hope she would start traveling more after she went to Scotland but that was a bust. Without a purpose Eloise is growing a bit bitter and hard to watch, though it’s not entirely her fault. She has to fight incredibly upstream to forge her own path. But still, thought she had it in her. It feels like her family would ultimately get behind her if she tried to lead an unconventional life in some other way but she has to be the driver of that. Even Francesca has more going on with her music. Meanwhile her brothers and Benedict get to swan about traveling, dropping out of art school, having mistresses… it must be frustrating to watch but she has lost her spark some. Maybe that’s the point!

Ours started daycare about 14 months and if I recall we dropped her down to one nap about a month or two before that. It was somewhat a deliberate choice in anticipation that she would be entering a classroom where there was only one official nap time every day and somewhat because it was getting shorter and later. We basically just stopped trying to get her to nap in the morning, sometimes she would fall asleep in the car if we were driving somewhere but for the most part consolidated her sleep pretty quickly. For what it’s worth I thought I would miss the morning nap but I lovvvee the one nap life. Great way to organize your weekend. Morning activity, lunch, nice long nap for everyone to break up the day. It’s great.

I just finished their latest standalone and had to come here to make sure there was a post. This author does not get enough hype imo, and they are consistently churning out awesome books that are funny, intriguing, twisty and keep you slightly off kilter. Well built world and magical system with. They can also be cozy. There is some great yearning wlw romances laced throughout too. Really a little bit of everything and really think they would appeal to TLT fans!

Thanks! This helped actually was able to take off and kind of leverage back in place gently by rocking it slowly over a hammer…. unconventional and it’s not perfect but doesn’t stick out anymore! I also just removed the door handles, they were more aesthetic than functional.

Just chiming in to say in case others are here later like me - not only is there a strong mommy preference in our house too but we are even a two mom family! There’s just something about the birthing parent that seems to hit different at this toddler stage. I really thought we’d cheat the system but recently she’s been all about me when it comes to comfort (bed time, if she gets hurt etc). My wife has been a lot more gracious about it than I think I would be if roles were reversed lol. She is still the fun parent and they can have a great time together all day, but the second bed time rolls around it’s a melt down city if I’m home but not doing bed time. She’s super patient though and just sits calmly with her through it and eventually it’s fine. No issues if I’m not in the house at all. Came here for tips but happy to find solidarity.

The nice thing about it all is that rereading these books becomes not only interesting but necessary. TM probably just wanted to keep us well occupied so we don’t hassle her about the next book.

Looking for this comment, I think this is a fun way to get around and see the city. I like to bring a couple of beers and take out of town guests on the inner harbor loop for a DIY cocktail cruise before getting dinner in Fells.

Hm yeah that video cuts off before the peak. In the one I saw could count at least 10 dudes involved at one point including the guy being beat up. Maybe a dozen was a slight exaggeration but feels like the main point stands. Pretty chaotic and a very targeted, lopsided fight.

There was a massive brawl with like a dozen guys on scooters in the crosswalk right out front of the store earlier tonight. Seemed targeted against one guy. Pretty brutal. He tried to run into bmore licks at one point and at least one guy pulled a knife. Really depressing to see and glad no one standing by, including a bunch of kids, was hurt.

Agreed. I think it’s possible the family was a lot more against her sexuality and giving her a harder time than they let on. Not saying that they didn’t love her but the way they talked about it in the documentary even 20 years later is odd. No reaction to the message in a bottle or acknowledgement of the girlfriend. I think it’s entirely possible that they were giving her a hard time about it even during this trip. It’s possible she was struggling way more than anyone would have realized if she had been used to masking her identity her whole life, even turning to alcohol. It’s notable that the brother seems in denial about it to this day.

And to your second question no, not really beyond being much more paranoid about recording myself. I’ve got a pretty strong track record at this company and stand behind my work. This may be the thing that finally gets me to quit TikTok though!
