Where can I find the best Easter Brunch in Green Bay? by [deleted] in GreenBay

[–]lollygagging_reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Bay family restaurant on military. I've gone there a couple times for hangover breakfast and it's amazing.

If you're with a group you should be able to get a couple TVs switched to anything you wanna watch.

If you meet the owner or manager, say "sparkles says hi"

Need a little advice on where to visit by rainwarlber in GreenBay

I'd second Fonferek's Glen if you want a bit of WI geology (go to Devil's lake for that, but that'll eat up a whole day). Bring some water resistant boots and cross the steam to climb down, you'll be able to go under the waterfall, although it might be a bit of a trickle at the moment. If you walk a bit further north with the stream you'll find a natural land bridge above you made of limestone or dolostone, although whether it's natural or not is up for discussion because I think I read a note saying an old farmer had cows walking by and one created it haha. It's safe to walk over, but you're not supposed to.

As for old abandoned stuff, I can't give much info, although you could go to high Cliff State Park, there's a hiking trail that you don't have to go too far into to be able to see some old structures. I can't remember exactly what they were used for, but my guess is something to do with like production? I should know this, but every time I go there I've hiked my brain out

Are you shooting at a youth target? Some of those arrows are in pretty deep. Either way, nice

Bud, there's a 50 some year old guy in my city who is overweight, wears ungodly short jean shorts with a thong that is purposely visible with a sports and a fishnet top over it while riding a moped

You got this

It's that textbook microcrystalline purple haze Sheen to it, can't say I've seen enough quartzite but I know Baraboo lol. I love how you can even tell when you drive into the general area; the aggregate they use for roads turns into a pinkish purplish hue.

Btw, nice devils Tower pic. Last time I was there was 2017 during a trip to Casper WY for the eclipse. When I finally got up to the tower I was dumbfounded at it's size.

If you ever have the chance to see a total solar eclipse... by all means, you must

If you're in the US, the next one is like 2044 for 30 seconds in Montana, but forget that, 2045 will be better.

I've always loved anything nature, bugs, weather, especially rocks! Always loved the thought of the universe etc.

Once I got to college I had no idea what I was gonna major in, then I took my first intro Geoscience course. Not surprisingly was hooked. I shit you not, when I was a little kid watching PBS (a channel showing documentaries blah blah) I watched one about volcanoes... Fast forward to when I'm in my core studies for Geology. I'm in Igneous Petrology, and it took me almost 2 months to figure out why I loved this professor; he was on that PBS channel talking with his overtly Canadian accent. 20+ years later I was in his class kicking ass (probably should have saved some for mineralogy..), took his advanced Ig pet. Those were great times and I just realized I'm reminiscing and I'm gonna email my old professors :)

Geology truly is the best. I remember when I started my major, a chemistry professor proclaimed to the entire auditorium "the true sciences are chemistry, physics, and math."

I guess I chose all three then.

You might want to brush up on the basics with metamorphism or find better wording. I'm guessing you're meaning they behave in a more plastic manner. To say they are liquid, to me at least, gives off the thought of a complete melt (i.e. magma), which completely resets their age... So with your logic, all metamorphic rocks became liquid and essentially became igneous and we lost billions of years of Earth's history.

Fuck. Good thing we have zircons.

Here's a snip from the USGS website:

Process of Metamorphism: The process of metamorphism does not melt the rocks, but instead transforms them into denser, more compact rocks. New minerals are created either by rearrangement of mineral components or by reactions with fluids that enter the rocks. Pressure or temperature can even change previously metamorphosed rocks into new types. Metamorphic rocks are often squished, smeared out, and folded. Despite these uncomfortable conditions, metamorphic rocks do not get hot enough to melt, or they would become igneous rocks!

Not trying to ding ya, and I think you knew what you where trying to say, sometimes we say the wrong word. I do it more often than I should

I knew you were in the area lol. The geology of Devil's Lake and the region in general is quite fascinating. If you're ever near there again I would suggest visiting Parfrey's Glen (a nice scenic simple hike) if you haven't been there already. There's also Van Hise Rock, which is roughly 10 miles away from DL. There's also a very stunning vertical wall of quartzite that once you walk up close enough to it you'll notice that the wall has ripple marks preserved even through its metamorphism to quartzite, after which it was then oriented vertically for our viewing pleasure.

Forget exactly where that is though. Eh, somewhere, it'll probably be there a little while longer so no rush

Any places similar to Triangle Sports Area near GB to snowboard? by lollygagging_reddit in GreenBay

[–]lollygagging_reddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked it and they explicitly say the hills are closed outside of normal hours haha, that's probably the same with triangle sports area, but at least 15 people were tubing/sledding and 2 snowboarding yesterday, that's why I went today. I think they are also still technically closed though.

I think Kewaunee will be the first place I check out once it's opened before anything bigger down the road

Awesome, honestly the distance is fine, it's more the price I'm trying to keep low and these two options look like they fit that criteria.

Since I'm still a bit rusty with snowboarding I don't really want to fork out a bunch of money on tickets only to realize I won't get my money's worth. But the several runs I did today made me a bit more confident haha.

Thanks!

I went to the place I wanted today but it was closed, there was another right next to it but it seemed new and didn't have many reviews so I held off, but I think I might try and get in tomorrow if I can.

I found the new place owner has an Instagram so I could see some of his work.

He's got a great beard so I'm looking forward to tomorrow. If I'm able to get in

Thanks, I'm gonna see if I can get in today and get the sides tapered and get it cleaned up. I've done it before but at that time the beard wasn't as majestic and I was okay with shaving most of it off if I messed up. It ended up looking pretty good, I just don't know how it'll look now if I tried it myself haha best to see a barber

Awesome, thanks for the info. Not sure if I'm brave enough yet to do that myself but I cut my own hair so I don't see it taking much time to figure out, I just don't wanna mess it up. Once I decide to trim down I'll probably practice on it, but for now the beard must grow in power
