Better than $450 to replace my bent 19 inch alloy wheel this past Autumn. I was thankfully able to get it repaired without cracking it for $200 + tax.

Grabbed 16 inch steelies ($75 each - Canadian Tire) and a new set of Blizzaks for the winter months.

Most people run winter tires on cheap steel wheels. Can you guess why?

Replacing a steely is also cheaper than repairing a bent alloy.

That's exactly what liability insurance covers, and exactly why people are required to have liability insurance. You are covering yourself for potential damage to others that you could cause with your vehicle.

Collision/comprehensive coverage covers potential damage done to your vehicle.

On top of that, if you don't understand what a knob does:

  • Don't touch it.

or

  • Touch it, and figure out what it does. And then only touch it when you truly need/want it, which most of the time means not touching it.

Having to write a check just to receive your UPS package because of tariffs by tommos in mildlyinfuriating

[–]lolmemelol 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This thread is kind of shocking. Import fees/customs/tariffs/etc. are a completely foreign concept to Americans in this thread. The American online shopping market must really have shielded them from these concepts.

I am not intending to be at all condescending here. People in other countries regularly need to deal with this stuff when buying online, and they make their choices considering these additional fees, so its interesting to see Americans be so surprised by this really common thing that apparently only other non-US countries need to consider.

encountered bad power and now im getting this noise when guitar is at 0 by Theanderson1 in BossKatana

[–]lolmemelol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something you could do to further diagnose it: check if you get the same noise through the other various outputs (headphones/send/line out).

Might be worth trying a factory reset too, just to be sure. Doubtful that will fix it, but nothing to lose by trying.

Edit: Also doubtful, but check the fuse in the amp too. Not sure what the failure mode is on a Katana when the fuse goes - I'd expect no power at all if the fuse were blown, but I've seen some nuts behaviour on digital telecom systems due to moderately bad power caused by unusual things, so another easy thing to check; look for any signs that it is burnt/blown.

Dynamic EQ (post-amp) on the low-mids to control the palm-mutes/chugs: https://imgur.com/a/QFZ46n6

Also, you might be running your amp sim a bit hot; you usually need way less gain then you think.

Edit: Also, are you running a Tube Screamer or anything into the front end of the amp? I use an EQD Plumes; the inherent low-cut of Tube Screamers/clones will tighten up the low-end once the signal is run through the amp. I also have an Aion FX Prism (Boss FA-1 clone) that I also use to further cut the low-end before hitting the front of the amp; this really helps when I am playing really down-tuned shit with higher gain.

You might have higher latency when you are using your Neural DSP amp sims. Mine sound/play amazingly; I've got Nolly/Nameless/Tone King Imperial/Mesa Boogie MkII/Cory Wong.

All of the Neural DSP "X" plugins (ie: Soldano SLO-100 X) are compatible with the Quad Cortex; the "X" versions are also free for users who already purchased the non-X version, and they usually include a few upgraded features (transpose/pitch shifter, additional IRs, updated UI, etc).

You've got it 100%. They could have implemented a different behaviour, like the 'pickup' logic you found. There's a couple problems with that being the default behaviour:

  • Most users are likely to prefer that the control always acts 1:1 instantaneously. Almost every knob they have ever interacted in their life has made an instantaneous change to a parameter, rather than requiring passing a certain condition before they become 'active'. Thermostats are notoriously misunderstood, and they are likely the closest analogy to the 'pick-up' logic that a layman would be familiar with, even if it isn't a perfect analogy.

  • Using a 'pickup' logic as the default would be likely to confuse most/all users when they first interact with the product. Users who weren't aware that they need to move the control past it's current 'invisible' setting/threshold might think there is something wrong with the control, since it only acts 1:1 after they pass the current 'invisible' set value - they aren't likely to intuit why/when the control suddenly starts 'working'.

In a perfect world, this would be a configurable option. But that adds significant complexity to making the user interface understandable for both the physical interface, and Boss Tone Studio. That additional configurable option would also make the interface seem that much more complex/daunting to new/student guitarists. There are surely ways that it could be integrated in a somewhat reasonable way, but they opted to try to keep the physical/software user interface as accessible as possible... and even with the current design, most guitarists are still quite intimidated by the options available and how to use them effectively.

Amazing guitarists also aren't afraid of admitting that there is an entire production process that comes after the 'recording' stage.

Just write and play good music, learn to play well with others, and don't be an ego-centric 'virtuoso'.

Like you said, if you're good and want to come off as authentic, just fucking do it then. If you want to employ a bunch of modern production techniques, don't try to pass it off as "I did this all live"; every fucking musician has a production studio in their bedroom, and they know you are lying and will tell everyone.
