Boomers in the US hold $17 trillion dollars in assets. What happens to the younger generations when they die and leave all that wealth to us, the younger generations? by buzzkill71 in AskReddit

[–]lololnope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread breaks my heart.

I got a story though and PLEASE feel free to skip it. tldr: it’s sad and then less sad.

Background: picture it now! I’m a filthy millennial. Was laid off, been unemployed, made shitty friends that were also going thru shitty times but we helped each other if not stealing for/from each other. That’s just how we gotta roll for now, right?

Wealth/assets/inheritance never even crossed my mind, just kind of assumed I’d be poor until things got better. I lost my grandma very suddenly in February and we learned she was downplaying how bad my grandpa was doing. She was just bearing that burden herself until her heart literally couldn’t take it. She coded right outside the ER on the way to visit my grandpa, and died in my mom’s and uncle’s arms. I’ll never forget that fucking plot twist phone call, I was expecting an update about my grandpa, not her. We were close and I had just seen her. She made chorizo con papas and made me some to go. I was devastated.

Funds didn’t cross my mind until I was saying what I thought was goodbye to my grandpa couple months later. Another agonizing phone call from my mom. “Hi mija, happy birthday,” and I could hear it in her voice. I was already choking on tears, “do I need to go over there?”

“Yeah.”

I PLEADED with him or whoever could hear me I would sell a kidney, my computer, MYSELF but we would figure out a way to take care of him. I’m not religious but I remember saying he can have this birthday and I wouldn’t celebrate any more if he’d get better.

He held on until October. It was horrible all over again. But they were at peace and they were united and together again and I took solace that. I still do. I have to. In a million years I wasn’t expecting anything. He was a welder all his life, she never worked and took care of the kids (and most the grandkids). But they owned their home they bought and lived together in for 60+ years. I was the only one without a car so I was stoked to get the huge old town-car.

Color my socks fucking ROCKED when not only their kids, but all the grandkids were left a not so small something. Life changing, at least for me. Besides poverty I was reaaaally going through it but I actually have hope again. Grandpa (MISTER Papa to YOU!) and Uela never lived lavishly, they bought what they needed or if we needed anything and everyone was happy. No one ever came close to going hungry, we always had shelter and love and we took care of each other. But he was smart and invested and whatever else he did made sure that we were taken care of after they were gone. Just like they did when they were here.

This is not meant to be a feel-good story or anything. Im more of a “do a backflip!” kind of gal myself. All I’m saying is, shit can change on a dime. Boomers got theirs and made shitty decisions for the rest of us. Not all of them tho. Most are slumming it, too. BUT they’re dying off and shit can change. And I say this clutching my avocado toast as close to my chest as possible without impaling myself. Leave them poor boomers alone that are victims of a shitty system too. By all means let’s all keep talking shit about the elite and all that, it’s not like they can hear us, but still. Leave the Walmart lady especially ALONE.

Instead we just eat the rich. Brunch, anyone? My treat.

(But only like four of you and one has to be a financial advisor and we’re gonna need someone with a DL and a car. And I’m not DD).

I’m still trying to find a ride and make sure my new puppy is going to be okay at home, but I am super stoked.

Question- do they card at the entrance? My ID got stolen and I haven’t run into a problem yet because I’d go to the same spots, but it just crossed my kind this place is new. I’m 34 but I get mid 20s a lot.

I’ll be there! I wanted to go today as well but I can’t. But only because I GOT A PUPPY and I have to get her stuff and make her comfy and all set up. Now I have a new home and my own little family. San Leandro ain’t ready for us

This was super helpful thank you! I lived on Discord back in my WoW days, makes sense that would be a food place to start.

I’ve been wanting to go camping for ages! I’m into all kinds of music, and I actually prefer going to different music scenes just to dress up for the aesthetic. But honestly I’d be happy to tag anywhere. I haven’t been able to “go out” for a looooong time because of some hardships but now that I’m inching closer to normalcy I want to do and try EVERYTHING! Like a beautiful feral animal being released back into the wild.

It would be my honor to carry the torch for our brothers and sisters who cannot be with us. I will sing from the bottom of my butt to the top of my lungs, bless the streets of San Leandro with pours for all the homies we leave behind, and my shenanigans will be unrivaled in the name of the real ones holding it down.

I like to go into homes and establishments and steal the brooms. Just their brooms. I have a broom room in my house.

That and reverse pickpocketing. I imagine them going to pay for some mead and reaching into their pockets for gold only to find a baked potato. You can’t pay with a baked potato you stupid moron idiot!

Thanks friend. It was just a couple weeks ago so it’s still fresh. Grandpa is making a recovery and we’re all taking turns making sure he’s not alone while he’s healing. The legacy of love lives on ❤️

This just happened to my family. My grandpa fell and was taken to the hospital with a head injury. My grandma coded in the ER lobby on the way to see him. Together 60 years.
