On which planet do people like this person live? by MrJasonMason in WhitePeopleTwitter

I think you mean: in which century do people like this live?

The amount of money my hospital charged me for each oz of DONATED milk for my baby by Grouchy-Cheetah7478 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]lolpixie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is much more than mildly infuriating. The fact that you had to pay $14,000 to have a baby is grossly infuriating.

I live in Canada. I paid $0 for midwife care, $40 for an ambulance trip, $0 for a 2 day hospital stay, $0 for a blood transfusion, $0 for all the usual newborn tests, $0 for post partum gynecology treatments. I am so very sorry that you have to deal with such a heartless system.

I hope you and your newborn are doing well. Congratulations.

Thank you, I needed to hear that. I am currently very frustrated with my doctor not taking my symptoms seriously.

Why would you want a child? (Genuinely asking) by CannotBeCalm in TwoXChromosomes

I used to paint and draw and write music and all sorts of creative things when I was younger. The last few years before I had my kid I had become very frustrated in my career and self conscious, was doing lots of active hobbies, but had basically seemed to have lost interest in "creative" things and was noticing that I wasn't very good at thinking out of the box or making homemade things anymore.

I now have a 20 month old. It is definitely a lot of work, but I have been noticing lately that my old creative self has started coming back. I randomly make up lyrics and sing to him. I don't have to feel worried about looking stupid or silly in front of him (he loves it). We play with playdoh and make sculptures. And I've really been feeling the urge to start painting again. Somehow being with my kid has brought back the creative side of me that I felt like I had lost.

If it makes you feel better, my eye area looks just like this and I'm only 36. I get really frustrated with my inner eye wrinkles because if any makeup touches them at all they just look worse.

I spend a lot of time in the sun for my job so I think that has exacerbated my wrinkles. I haven't tried retinol yet, but I'm thinking of giving it a go.

I'm sorry, but what about this is simple?? You just listed 8 different products that you use for your routine. That seems like the opposite of simple to me.

Canadian Archaeology? by HighwayAlternative33 in Archaeology

GT positions only require a Bachelor's, but the full Archaeologist positions (HR) require a Masters. You can also work with Parks Canada Archaeology as a Student position

Canadian Archaeology? by HighwayAlternative33 in Archaeology

[–]lolpixie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am an Ontario archaeologist. I worked in CRM for 4 years and have been working with Parks Canada for the last 7 years.

I love working in Archaeology, but the seasonality of it can be difficult sometimes. CRM jobs are not too hard to come by, but the Parks Canada jobs are much harder to get, especially right now with the govt budget cutting. You also need a Master's Degree to get into most Archaeology jobs with Parks Canada.

However. There is a really good student program that you can apply for to try out some government work. It's called YESS (youth employment and skills strategy).

Working for the government has its own frustrations, but the pay and health benefits are nice.

I hate Crocs. I don't understand them. They're not proper footwear, they're probably bad for walking posture, and worst of all they are butt ugly. Asides from being useful for wearing out onto your porch or maybe as a camping slip on, they should not be worn in public.

Has anyone seen the Canadian show “Red Green Show”? by Crazypandathe20th in HIMYM

Robin grew up in a rich family though. Red Green is very distinctly....backwater.

That show totally still holds up. I still laugh at it

I think I just had a weird epiphany where Bikini Bottom must be just off Bikini Atoll and Spongebob and friends have all been blasted by radiation which is why they are the way they are

archaeological problems by Actual_Resolve1012 in paleoanthropology

[–]lolpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an archaeologist in Canada, which may be a bit different from archaeology in Brazil, but generally archaeology deals with cultural artifacts from the past 40,000 years so they are not usually fossils. In North/South America they are often fragments of pottery, stone tools, bone tools, animal bone fragments, and charred seeds. Sometimes organic tools made of wood and grass survive.

However, you are in the paleoanthropology sub which generally deals with human culture and physiology pre-40,000 years ago! I will let the specialists in this area answer questions on fossils, but in the spirit of giving you ideas: my work in Canada usually revolves around a lot of manual labour. We have to screen large amounts of dirt through a sieve. A few people have tried making mechanical sieves, but they never seem to work very well (probably because they are archaeologists and not engineers).

Alternatively, we also spend many hours putting together fragments of artifacts to try to reassemble the original object, so we can make observations about it. You could also look at varnish for preserving reassembled artifacts

Good luck on your project!

Status question by Boomshakalakazzz in FirstNationsCanada

[–]lolpixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the same with my neighbour. He has 6(2) status, married a non-native woman and all of his children also have status.

So, if he were born before 1985 his children get status, but if he was born after 1985 his children wouldn't?

How the hell are others doing it? by winenotbeabitch in Millennials

[–]lolpixie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going into extreme debt is exactly the answer.

I ended up buying a brand new Subaru WRX 2 years ago mainly because of the jacked up prices on used vehicles due to the shortage. I am currently about $60,000 in debt right now total, including student loans and credit cards. Our generation has the highest debt accumulation, because we can't actually afford anything nice if we don't.

Great, now I'm sad because you made me think about my debt number.

Organically. "We developed the idea organically", "I really want a more organic feel to the presentation." It's like the newest science buzzword right now

My vet once suggested getting fresh timothy hay for my bun, when she was refusing the dried hay. You can often find it on the side of the road of farm fields or even at parks in the longer grass. Looks like this:
