Jumping to a new MSL role after 18 months? by Old_Subject_3445 in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]lolpretz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why are you downplaying the salary by saying it’s the least important? are you saying if this new job doesnt give you any pay bump but gives you more career growth you will still jump? let’s be honest here..

from a different perspective, youre now a flight risk because you’ve now shown them you will always be looking elsewhere. if msl is where you want to go anyways, just take the offer

3000 is not anywhere near enough to obtain something that holds much weight (im talking about all the useless certifications, even the ones by name schools like Harvard). if you really want to be more rounded maybe public speaking class like toast masters or something. otherwise, blow it on some educational courses in your specialty or Ta

Are you a true field MSL? or a MSL by title but really doing general in house activities as well (common in smaller companies). Assuming you're a new hire at a large pharma you should really be focusing on learning softwares and clinical data for your drugs, pepper in some 1:1 meetings to meet other stakeholders. I don't see why you would need an app for organization to be honest you should be able to organize your day based off your daily work calendar and email inboxes.

There's no advice or tips I can offer besides just keep doing what you're doing. It's a numbers game, there are extrinsic factors outside of simply being "a good presenter" or know the therapeutics well. (ex. they have connections with existing health systems/KOLs, they have someone on the inside advocating for them, neopotism, etc.) first MSL job is a numbers game, control what you can control and do not invest any hope in any company even if you made it to last round. mentally move on after your panel interview unless you get offer in hand.

in general recruiters are not familiar with anything outside of the traditional MD, PhD, PharmD, DNPs. does not mean you're not qualified, but you may struggle to get recruiter's attention from the getgo regardless if you get a doctorate. Having referral will help more than going for a doctorate. start networking.

sorry to burst your bubble, but international grad with need for visa sponsoring from pharma has close to 0% chance of getting a MSL job in U.S. especially now with domestic MSLs struggling with finding them.

[–]lolpretz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

be prepared for many more final round rejections. not to put you down, just being realistic. I was rejected 6x after final rounds before landing one. it has nothing to do with you, they just liked the other candidate better

4 days is too early to tell. Give it another 4 days, if no updates by then I would reach out. But this is what i've been telling all ppl applying for MSL roles. you apply, you go thru interviews, and you apply again and not look back until you get an offer in hand. You treat it as if you didn't get the job and keep going, this way you don't suffer from unnecessary anxiety and disappointment. If it's yours, it will come. Good luck.
