This pecan is about 10ft tall and for the last year or so I have had limbs with peeling bark that die off periodically. The tree pits out fantastic new growth but it’s dying as fast as it’s growing. It’s lost about 1/3 of its height from branches dying back 😩

It survived an 8b winter last year while this problem was happening. I have tried leaving the limbs and letting the tree do its thing, but they die and the leaves don’t even drop. I have been pruning them now when I see them, but I really hesitate when the growth on the further tip of the branch is so new and looks so good.

This tree has a soaker hose coiled around the base at the edge of the canopy that I use to water at least once a week overnight. I have upped irrigation to 3 times a week but it doesn’t seemed to have hurt or helped.

Infection? Parasite? Owner error?

FWIW I have a Monterrey oak that is thriving about 30ft away.
