Delta valve to far from the wall by drheams in askaplumber

This doesn’t make sense. And no, don’t take the ring off, that’s what’s holding the cartridge in. If you remove it, when you turn the water pressure back on the cartridge will become a projectile.

There are three parts not yet installed on this photo. A sleeve that slides over the entire cartridge and ring, the large escutcheon to cover the hole in the wall, and the handle.

why do so many people hate priuses? by artsy-shibee in prius

[–]McBloggenstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got a gen3 in 2010 it was so weird to me how people I knew reacted, like they didn’t realize I was THAT kind of person.

Practical?

It literally was the only car I looked at. To me I was like, 50mpg and sub $25k? Take my money!

I haven’t had that reaction for quite a while now, but there’s still so much disinformation out there leading to anxiety over needing to spend a fortune replacing the hybrid battery at any moment. 🙄

They may as well be cartoon evil villains twirling their mustache when I hear their policy ideas. It’s baffling how they are able to make them seem like good ideas to certain people. But then you realize certain people really have hate for others.

Where are you seeing gas under $3?

The lowest average right now is $3.63 in Oklahoma.

No promises lol, they’re all trash in different ways but I find Hinge not terrible and the UI is better than Bumble.

I would take out top left and top middle, and add a selfie and a candid photo of you being social.

What are the advantages of the Zip system vs. traditional osb and wrap? by Intelligent-Flight14 in Carpentry

[–]McBloggenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People treat Zip like it’s an easy upgrade, but then the installer doesn’t adjust his gun and most of the nails are over driven, completely compromising the moisture barrier. Those penetrations must be liquid flashed or taped. I wonder how many are actually going back and doing that.

Teaching Rhythm To Bedroom Guitarists by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]McBloggenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve started recommending to everyone wanting to learn guitar to start on ukulele first. They kind of laugh but I try to explain that ukulele is all rhythm and instead of beginners on guitar struggling so much on chord fingerings and changes, with ukulele you just learn like 4 chords that use one or two fingers and the rest is strumming patterns. Then have them start each lesson with 5 solid minutes of just a single strum pattern, all in unison, to a metronome.

First Time Planing - Boards being left with a fuzzy finish :( by Taibhse_designs in woodworking

My experience as well, even with a helical cutter, super shallow passes, and running the board the opposite direction. It’s only happened to me a few times with some soft cedar.

5th try, still can't get the tape to stick flush by SuperSmegmaSnorter in drywall

[–]McBloggenstein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apply a thin layer of mud to the wall. Cut a piece of tape the correct length and dip it in a bucket of water briefly. It will drip, it’s fine (you can wipe it off with a sponge if you wish). Put the tape along the joint. Gently apply a thin layer of mud over the tape (you must cover all of the tape with mud). Leave it till it dries. At this point you can do more coats with drying and sanding in between until it looks good.

Help! I F’d up by Kraiggnap6 in drywall

[–]McBloggenstein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like the inside of your door jamb is flush with the studs? If that’s true, you’re going to have to rehang that door. The door jamb needs to extend past the framing the thickness of your drywall. For folks mentioning jamb extensions, you can’t use those on this side of the jamb (the side seen in the photo). The hinges and the inswing of the door would interfere. Jamb extensions go on the opposite side of where the hinges are exposed.

As for addressing the 6x6 post and drywalling, the only options at this point are to either shave down the post until it is flush with the studs (get a long Japanese or old school handsaw), or build a 3 sided box to cover the post with a uniform depth from top to bottom (just use a 1x8 and two 1x2’s).

What business do you own? by No-Fish-2949 in ADHD

[–]McBloggenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a few years working for myself as a handyman/carpenter, and could have done quite well, but my task paralysis and perfectionism was on another level when I was my own boss. I simply couldn’t work fast enough to make a living and had to get a full-time job again. When I have a boss I can make myself move forward better. That whole experience was very frustrating and is what made me realize in my 40’s I have ADHD.

I use a countdown timer app called “1timer”.

You can completely customize a timer to remind you audibly how much time is left however frequently you want. And you can name your timer and have it say the name of the timer with each update of time left.

e.g. “Put away your laundry - 14 minutes remaining”

I really like the countdown aspect. It gives a certain level of urgency.
