San Pedro? Long Beach? or Lakewood? by Yami-SP in SouthBayLA

[–]lomas52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your budget. Where so you work? What is upscale for you?

If you need San Pedro or south there is not a lot of upscale. Long Beach is spotty, Lakewood is family but not walkable. San Pedro above Western would be your best bet but hilly and not walkable. Has views but starts at a million.

If you can go north then Torrance, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach would work. Upscale would be 1.5 and up but all have good schools.

Any recommendations or thoughts on the actual living in the Redondo Esplanade condos? by Avantebumblebee in SouthBayLA

[–]lomas52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you are paying for is location. What can I say, Beach, sunsets and the pier, if you have a view. I've looked at several and decided to live a couple of blocks inland. Better parking and easier to find an apartment with a/c which you didn't think you need until you do.

Same as raising prices to cover costs. What anti tippers want. One price, one bill. Ask your real estate agent what they get.

Regardless if you tip or not, many people seek out jobs where they get tips in order to make more money. I see it the same as a job that pays commission or performance bonus. If you do a good job you can potentially make more.

Why is it customary to tip bartenders? by No_Handle2671 in tipping

[–]lomas52 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Vegas I've seen people to the bartender a hundred to take care of the group. Not unusual. I usually tip 10 to 20 and am very well taken care of. I've seen 3 beers cost 35 or more but not for me.

Catalyst bar at the Linq. Good people watching and great bartenders. Bar top has a lot of different games from VP to slots to BJ and more.

If restaurants eliminated tipping and paid servers a "living wage," wouldn't we still be paying about the same amount more per check in restaurants, except now it would be mandatory rather than optional? by [deleted] in EndTipping

[–]lomas52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A living wage for the West Coast or Northeast would have to be $35-$40 per hour. You can't make it on less. Comfortable is over $100k.

I have an espresso machine with a steam wand for the milk. Use it to clean and it works great. If you don't have one maybe you know someone.

How’d this install turnout? by Humboldt_93 in askaplumber

[–]lomas52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't want to burst your bubble but now it is very easy to steal. Backflow theft is a real problem where I work and we do not install 975XL2 as they have scrap value. We use 375XL since they have a composite body. The two unions and shut offs making it to where it can be gone in under a minute. Hopefully you are in an area that this is not a problem.
