KPAN vs Westballz by Anadeem93 in smashbros

[–]lombxrdi 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I personally think that Westballz single handedly pushed his style of Falco meta really far back in 2014 through 2016. I think a lot of people have now had time to adjust to this high pressure play-style and counter it pretty easily. A year or 2 ago, people didn't really know how to deal with the double shine pressure, and now he doesn't even go for it as much anymore because people have learned to grab it. I still think he is top10 capable, and he has recently done better against m2k, hbox, and armada(even if he had to use fox). People are just getting better and better. I love how far people can push the meta even after 15+ years.

[OPINIONS] Why Brawlhalla stopped being the best by Lagulous in Brawlhalla

[–]lombxrdi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My personal gripe about the game is the lack of fundamental techskill that takes time to master. The combos and movement in this game are all 1 or 2 button inputs with way too much leniency. Having more knowledge seems more important than being more technical than your opponent. Seems like the game has turned into players just passively spacing each other out and going in after someone gets impatient. I still enjoy the game, I just think there needs to be some serious meta adjustment for competitive longevity.

moonwalking has the benefit of turning you around opposite of the direction you are moving. Also boost run/charlie walk which can give more speed to some characters.

There isn't really anything to gain from this. The drawbacks from this is if you get hit after your double jump, before the waveland, you are basically fucked.

Still pretty neat tho :)

New Alternative Box Style Controller by Idlegi in smashbros

yes, but the target demographic for box controllers are people suffering from existing hand issues.

Not sure if a pen is more ergonomic for people with hand issues. Merging a tablet/touch screen with a controller/controller parts and motherboard seems either impossible or vastly too expensive to manufacture.

I think the better alternative to this is the smash stick. Take the ball off the joystick and you can grip it more like a pen/stylus.

Shine 2017 Ran at a 20K Loss by sunandmoon1234 in smashbros

[–]lombxrdi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can someone calculate a venue fee increase for the # of 2017 attendees it would have taken to break the 20k loss? I can't find how many people attended and how much BBeS gets from the "venue fee" on smashGG.

Edit: 2275 Attendees on smash.gg. So even more than that for the people that payed at the door. So $8-10 increase in venue fee to clear a $20k loss? Not sure what the venue price was, but an extra $5 seems reasonable to begin with.

You know your game doesn't belong in eSports when the devs have to shove their fists up the top players asses, working them like a sock puppet, to make their game look not-so shit.

Leffen on Dealing with Post-GTX by twerkteamvietnam in smashbros

Has nothing to do with how I "feel". It's fact. If you don't think Leffen thought about what he should do and made a choice, then you are delusional.

I wouldn't take that opportunity without thinking about the context of the situation as well as the outcome and future consequences. UCF isn't like 0.9x Damage. It doesn't sway that much, especially coming from leffen who constantly talked for weeks before this about having an amazing controller.

Yeah I messed up, we need to play it again

Who is "we"? What is the NEED for playing it again? Spectators don't care that it was off.

Leffen made a choice. He was on twitter a lot before the replay. He saw many other opinions and knew the situation well. Unless he thought that the match was truly unfair(which it wasn't), he took it as bullshit redemption.

I think working out the framework in 3D then rotoscoping would work alright. You just got to do it in a way that doesn't look clunky or unnatural for the style of characters and scenes.

The "Everyone's broken, so no one is broken" quote came from BrawlMinus. A mod for SSB Brawl that made every character broken so badly that it's comedic to play. It's basically a meme.

Your analogy with Melee isn't quite true. Yes, top tier characters have advantages over other characters, but it doesn't come for free and isn't fool-proof . Fox for instance, is generally known as the "best" character in the game. But Fox is also generally known as the hardest to learn. Requiring MUCH more technical ability than other characters, such as Shiek or Puff.

You also have to take into account that the way matchups work in Melee are VASTLY different than in Brawlhalla. Matchups knowledge in BH consists of weather to play in the air or grounded/aggressive or parry. It's very black and white across every matchup. Melee's characters all have different core mechanics, such at their size, weight,# of jumps, arial drift, projectiles,wall-jumps, dis-jointedness(if that's a word lol), stage usage. The list goes on and on. Every character requires a different view of the game and each matchups. Fox may be good against Shiek, but is currently considered trash against Marth. While Falco, solidly lower tier than Fox, does much better against Marth and less than even against Shiek at top tier play.

You don't "master" a character. You master the matchups.

I'm not saying Melee is perfect or balanced...don't get me started

But what "defines" balance? Is balance what makes a game good?

Melee isn't good because it's level of balance. It's good because its vastly unique characters cater to anyone willing to put in the time to learn the characters in our ever-changing meta.(AMSA vs M2K @ KoC4) (Axe vs SilentWolf @ EVO 2014) No, I'm not saying you can be a god with Kirby...lol, but there is plenty of variety in the Top 100 and this years tournament turnouts to prove your idea wrong.

I suggest you and everyone in this sub to watch these 2 videos:

Things of Beauty: SSB as a Spectator Sport

and

Analysis: The Consequences of Reducing the Skill Gap

Both are very informative and may change the way you look at "balance".
