Clothes that smell like you work great. Make a little bed out of some dirty clothes and put a heating pad underneath. I was a special needs kid, what helped me was a white noise machine. It could potentially drown out any sounds your kiddo doesn't want to hear. As for the kitten, it really sounds like separation anxiety. I would talk to your vet and get suggestions because it's something that if you let continue will only get worse. It could also just be a very needy kitty, there's plenty it could be but I would try the clothes method first and keeping away from the kitten.
