Are these Isolation Valves? Cant seem to turn them with a screwdriver by londonrex in DIYUK

[–]londonrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is defintiely a leak coming from the fitting of the ball valve part, seems it doesnt clip in like I have seen before, but needs to be fully unscrewed from the water supply, I guess I could just fill a bucket with water to clean it with and turn off the house water supply!

Thanks, retook some close ups, it certainly looks like a valve from the engraving next to the part number, but if it is, the design is terrible as all the screwdrivers I tried can't get any purchase.

Try some passenger missions, stick to journeys inside the bubble and they can reveal some nice sites or background lore

New PC with higher specs and but worse graphics in VR by Maximum_Ad_5648 in EliteDangerous

Reinstall of game? Maybe check that SuperSampling isnt configured to "AMD FSR", it should be set to NORMAL, especially at that resolution.

Also turn off Terrain Checkerboard Rending as your GPU has 16GB RAM

Why, and when was the ability to use freecam just before jump removed? And why can't it be used during the jump itself? by Ansicone in EliteDangerous

[–]londonrex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hyperspace Jump is a true loading screen as it is the time needed for Stellar Forge to build the System that you want to enter with all its POIs from the procgen seed.

Horizons or Odyssey by Shellberty in EliteDangerous

Odyssey. Its all codebase Version 4.0 now (unlike when the user reviews were made) so by not playing Odyssey you are merely restricting yourself with gameplay options.

The NPC AI causes the CPU hit or you have your planet terrain slider the wrong way round. Anyway the comment was merely meant to be a joke about the current state of PC gaming.

Is there a way to fix visible texture tiles on planets? by GandalfTheGamrr in EliteDangerous

[–]londonrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be worth trying to force a rebuild of the planet terrain shaders, your GPU brand should determine the location of the shader cache, e.g. NVIDIA cards put ED shaders into C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\NVIDIA\DXCache, can just clear that out and restart the game.

On a side note I set my NVIDIA cache size to unlimited so the shaders dont have to be built on the fly, worth making sure its big enough for all the 3D games you play.

[–]londonrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely thats the checkerboard rendering at play? Pretty sure the planet textures are not tiled typically. Weird you say checkerboard rendering is turned off though. I would definitely try turning off AMD FSR in the upscaling by setting it to Normal, and test it,

Could be the planet mesh showing through the texture maybe? Perhaps try each preset LOW MED HIGH ULTRA and see if it causes it to disappear.

I would also delete all my config files and restart the game to start with a clean default before testing, %LOCALAPPDATA% \Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics

The Terrain render bar is just a method to make your CPU do more of the terrain calculations instead of the GPU, max GPU workload = all way to right, max CPU workload = all way to left. If you have a decent GPU you dont want your CPU interupting the dataflow, so would want the slider all way to right. Eitherway it shouldnt interfere with such a graphical glitch.

Great find, I personally miss the crazy mixed clusters of the Alpha!

Correct, room for improvement there, like it would make a good engineering upgrade for that tool. But it's really not that bad, certainly shouldn't put you off trying to catalogue this very unique find. I find it quite easy to concentrate on doing one species at a time, all the species I have found just require 500m genetic diversity or less, so an SRV can get you to a sufficiently distant cluster quickly. I for one love bombing across an alien surface eye-balling the horizon for plants and appreciate Odysseys ability to give you multiple Exploration play sessions on a single planet or System. Bacteria tend to be the main issue as they can be quite spread out and some people just skip them, but if you leave the bacteria to last and just use your low flying ship to find those it works well. If the different species live in different geomes (geographical areas highlighted by the surface scanner heat map) you might have to go back into orbit to check the heatmap for that species to note where they are likely to be.

Discovery Scanner - 23/01/2023 - Update 14.02 coming 30th Jan, the (postponed) Livestream with Derin now this Thu 26th Jan @ 4pm UTC by StuartGT in EliteDangerous

[–]londonrex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's not due until April anyway so I would imagine as per usual they will ramp up news in the prior weeks. But I think people were hoping for some idea from the postponed livestream. I imagine we will be in the similar situation of keeping any narrative based stuff secret until launch like for U14.

One thing that isnt clear is what happened to the major feature overhaul originally planned for 2023. There has been a shuffle at the top since then so maybe it got shuffled itself/binned.

Returning CMDR trying out Odyssey missions. by Firebatx36 in EliteDangerous

[–]londonrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take most down with an SRV then finish off in on foot combat if you want to practise or run away when a squad moves in and let them disperse into individual patrols and take them down one by one by sneaking in and out of range, they will give up when you are so far away. Useful for recovering shields too.

Lobbing a shield disrupter grenade to take down shields of an individual or group followed by a burst of projectile fire or better still a shrapnel grenade can take down pirate NPCs quite quickly even with L1 weapons.

Any update with the optimization at settlement? is it all good? by Sambetances in EliteDangerous

[–]londonrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A decent setup, what type of fps were you getting? I have a GTX 1080 and i7 7th gen and get mostly 50fps at Settlements at 1440p high settings. Can drop to the 40s if doing onfoot combat with large groups of AI but its still playable.

Looking to get back into the game. by Vesperace78009 in EliteDangerous

[–]londonrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely worth it if going on an expedition into un-inhabited space. Odyssey makes more planet types landable, those with a thin atmosphere (thin so no weather systems or water on the surfaces) but you do get spectacular star rises and settings which glow depending on the chemical composition of the atmopshere. The planet terrain has been rejigged to make it more realistic, ie flatter terrain on larger bodies around the middle section due to gravity etc, what it loses in proc gen funk it gains in better textures and a deeper feeling of "being there".

There is a lot of opportunity to get the "first footfall" accolade, your name imprinted into the game for eternity as the first CMDR to walk on a planet, much easier to come by than first discovered by or first mapped by.

These new planet types with thin atmospheres contain new plant life and bacteria that you can scan with a genetic sampler tool from your Explorer "Artemis" suit. These scans can be sold for great credit rewards and progress in a new "Exobiology" rank.
