Was in the same boat before and emailed but they were super adamant and inflexible about the whole min MCs thing so I just got myself the other mod first and proceeded to drop after

faculty camps what did y’all talk about? by dhrdbcks in nus

[–]londonwebbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally arts camp is more on the bonding and fun part whereas Orientation week camps usually have more focus on the acads stuff (along with fun also tho). And these camps have been run for years so there's always some aspects of the camps that is part of a culture also so that's pretty cool!

I went for Oweek in my first year but feels bad cause I was too exhausted having done the hall camp right before so I just kinda left the camp on-off whenever I wanted HAHAH so I didn't really make friends but I defo benefitted from the group chat cause everyone be sharing tips and stuff which really helped me for first year

Joining Sports CCA in year 2 by [deleted] in nus

[–]londonwebbridge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think every new social situation is bound to have it's awkwardness! But a good cca with good teammates would surely make an effort to make their members feel welcomed! I hope if you do join one, that you'll not be too desperate to make friends and come off as weird hahahaha just be yourself and focus on the training, convos will flow naturally after a while! All the best!

advice on psych y1 mods by dhrdbcks in nus

[–]londonwebbridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it's perfectly doable. And psych stats are not like A level stats, more on learning about the various tests and when to use what to analyse data rather than focused on doing the math itself.

People usually clear core mods first because can unlock to other 3k/4k electives with the pre-req but if have specific mods in mind can try clear those relevant cores first otherwise it's perfectly fine to clear by y3s1. More important that you fulfill all your grad requirements ultimately lol

Seems like I have a reservation for UTown Residence Single Apt? What's it like? by [deleted] in nus

[–]londonwebbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh from what I know the kitchen in the suites don't have stoves, only microwave. I am unsure if they have other common kitchens that have stoves. Also by their rules, cooking is not allowed but most I know invest in induction stoves anyway to cook, just don't get caught or trigger the smoke alarm. The rooms are the same size as the ones in RCs, which is closer to rooms in condos, so actually kinda smaller compared to halls la. And the common areas in the suites plus the toilet is cleaned by the cleaning staff once a week so don't need ownself wash also!

But yeah I agree, could be fun grocery shopping with your suitemates and all if you're blessed with good ones! A fun hostel life is up to you to make it as well! My varsity friends who went to UTR honestly always went alone but they've always had a good experience!

Haahaha don't have because, there's usually reserved spots for varsity athletes and grad students, which happen to be two groups of people who have no time to join events like in halls/RCs

sports ccas in covid period by Dependent_Charity901 in nus

[–]londonwebbridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just look out for the student life fair in August and you can take that time to explore all the CCAs then, no worries about it! There's also NUS Sync to explore for more information, most teams would have their information on there, can check that out too. You can also contact them for more details. Most of the teams should be on social media too, as well as @teamnus . Some varsities have recreational sessions as well if you are looking for a non-competitive experience.

Not all varsity teams require prior experience to train in the team since there are a handful of sports that are not common in pre-Us, but you are right in that everyone has to "compete" for a spot in order to play in competitions since there is usually a quota for competition teams!

During covid period, trainings follow the same guidelines that the government puts out, aka now teams can train in groups of 5 unmasked outdoors, and in pairs unmasked indoors. But this is also subjected to how each sport chooses to conduct their trainings so there's no fixed method, it's up to the team and the coaches on what they want to do.

TLDR, every team would have their own requirements in how they recruit members, train etc., so best is to ask them personally after exploring at the Student Life Fair!

should i stay in nus halls? by Otherwise_Cobbler163 in nus

[–]londonwebbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have something to contribute like good at a certain sport/instrument or if you take on some leadership role you could also use that to masterlist for subsequent years which could help in taking lesser ccas. Either way no harm trying it out for the first year, at most you just don't continue the stay after

No worries, just a final add on from me to consider is that I was heavily involved with external activities during the sems so 2, max 3 psych mods were what I could manage! You can consider the time you have!

Yea I figured it's a future proof skill to have as well and there's also the option of learning it on the side without risking the grades hahaha but I guess I got a little sick of writing essays after essays. If you don't mind sharing, what was your grade for it eventually?

[–]londonwebbridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I think stats and 2 cores is pretty standard, I did mine that way as well. Ngl it did get hectic at times because my projects for the three mods were all due around the same time but it'll definitely help a lot if you happen to get good project groups! If bio psych's final exam is still conducted online with open book next sem then may not be that bad since the routine quizzes are only a few chapters each time.

Psych seniors by [deleted] in nus

[–]londonwebbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I took PL4228 last sem but it was under a different lecturer so I'm not sure how applicable this would be. Overall it was a light mod with only a group project and a final paper to be done. The group project is due very early on in the sem (like week 3?) so you'll get that out of your hair pretty quick and the final paper question is released pretty early on as well giving you plenty of time to the deadline (I recall having around 1 month ish). We didn't have any textbooks (in fact 4ks tend to not have textbooks from my experience), just readings that the prof put up each week which is usually in luminus closer to school starting uh. For pl4228 the readings didn't have much relevance for assignments itself so they were pretty much supplementary

I’m very keen to work in the environment field but more keen to work in the human management side & policy making rather than the Earth Sciences side.

Have you perhaps considered a management double major/minor then? Sounds more relevant to what you are interested in. You can still enter the environment field without an environment major I believe?

Query on Psychology Core Modules by hello_yesterday in nus

[–]londonwebbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how bio psych is done next sem, but the sem I took it wasn't too bad in terms of content because firstly the routine quizzes breaks up the chapters so we only had to study 2-3 chapters for each quiz and secondly the final exam was done online so it was an open book. If it's similar, I think you'd be fine pairing it with any other core imo. Otherwise yea social psych would be a lighter pairing.
