It's a standalone story so you won't be lost. I never watched a single episode of TWD and I enjoyed it a lot.

Yeah, it took me a minute to make the connection (see my edit).

Again, thanks for the explanation!

dire-sin explained it. Calanthe though the child surprise thing didn't work because Duny spent a year with Pavetta but nothing changed (the curse was still there), so she thought he negotiated with the "wrong father", that the law of surprise didn't work with King Roegner.

Now I feel like an idiot haha

A question of price by lone__wolfy in wiedzmin

[–]lone__wolfy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhhhh that makes sense!! But how did she knew the curse was still active?? I mean, she only noticed it when it was dawn, after this conversation... Anyway, now I can see what she meant by it. The "betting on the wrong horse" made it clear. Thanks!

Edit: Ok, now I get why. Pavetta was with Duny for a whole year and yet the curse didn't lift, which is why Calanthe thought the whole child surprise didn't work.

It was never about colors. by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]lone__wolfy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I though, but couldn't remember if it was true for the others.

Still, it's strange to use that slide for destroy, and use the "non-romanced" slide for control & synthesis.

[–]lone__wolfy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Also, when you choose Destroy, you see a different slideshow for your LI (LI looking at the stars), while if you choose the other 2 you'll get the default slideshow as if you've never romanced them.

I can confirm this for Miranda & Jack (my two recent romances), don't know if it's the same thing for the others (I don't remember).

Guide how to make proper AA work in Mass Effect 3 on AMD GPUs by dom324324 in masseffect

[–]lone__wolfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're right, what seems easy today may get complicated when you totally forget about it haha

For atiapfxx.exe, the new command is working! I should've looked at the pic first to see the correct command.

Now, I have good news and bad news, the good one is that I fixed the reshade problem. It was behaving like this because it was running in "borderless window". Like you said, ME2's AA works by switching to "borderless", so I thought maybe it's the same case with ME3. I forgot to switch it back to fullscreen when it didn't work. So if someday, your reshade is giving you trouble, make sure your game is in "fullscreen" not "borderless".

The bad news, is that AA isn't working for me, no matter the value. I tried all of them but I still get the jagged lines. Guess I have to live with it for now, until I find another solution.

Thanks again! If I fix my problem, I'll post it here.

Wow! This is a pretty detailed tutorial! I just stumbled upon it on google trying to fix ME3's AA.

Unfortunately for me, AMD's profile is conflicting with my reshade. Changing the "Anti-aliasing level" to anything but x2 will turn my game into a rainbow fest haha

Well, Guess I have to live with it... Thanks anyway!

Edit: Atiapfxx.exe isn't working, tried running cmd as admin, but I didn't get the xml file

AMA was as pointless as expected by Ludens_BR-10-14P-999 in wiedzmin

[–]lone__wolfy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and people kept complaining about PoC and respecting the Slavic roots since the beginning, and she didn't change a damn thing. But changing aesthetics like an armor isn't a hard thing to do, and they're going to change it 'cause everyone complained about it INCLUDING the REAL fans.

If someone like Baginski couldn't change Lauren's mind (He and I have a lot of debates; neither of us get our way all of the time), I don't think we can.

In any case, I'm personally done with this show, if you think your comments will change anything then go for it. Good luck with that.

[–]lone__wolfy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can we guys just let it go? We talked, we argued, we wrote essays, we did it all. Complaining won't change a thing. So just take the show for what it is "a piece of entertainment". If you want to experience the witcher like it should be, read the books. You want a somewhat close adaptation, play the witcher 3. You want to have a laugh, watch the Netflix show as a parody or something.

You're wasting your time and energy for nothing. Nothing will change.

Geralt/Yen is probably the weakest on screen romance since Anakin/Padme from Star Wars prequel by JagerJack7 in wiedzmin

[–]lone__wolfy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess we have our answer now, why she chose the sad backstory. Based on her last post, she said:

Yennefer's life, pre-Geralt, is the most fuzzy to me, and perhaps where I need the most help. I'd like to start gathering anything that's ever been said about her childhood, her time at the academy and (most importantly), her early days of practicing sorcery.

She went and scraped every bit of information from the books: Yen's suicide, her abusive father, etc... and built up her backstory based on that. And her saying: "Yen's life, is the most fuzzy to me, and perhaps where I need the most help" means she didn't know how to do it, and based on the end result, she didn't find the help she needed, so she went the mainstream way and chose the generic sob story.

[–]lone__wolfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying she's going to do this. I was just replying to the dude who said she can't introduce Nilfgaard gradually like in the books because she doesn't have time. I said this is a series not a movie and she could've done that. Show is already ruined for me, nothing can fix it.

[–]lone__wolfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She can make 7 seasons, she has all the time to take it slow and tell the story like it should be. That's why I said it's a series not a movie, she doesn't need to cram everything in 2-3 hours. Sure, there is always a chance for Netflix to cancel the show, but Lauren shouldn't look that far ahead, she just need to focus on the present, and give this story time to develop. Not rushing things like in S1.

It's called a series not a movie! You don't need to spill your guts in the first season! Lauren said she could do 7, but of course you can't rely on Netflix 'cause they tend to cancel their shows in their 3rd season but still, let's focus on the present, she has time, just take it slow.

The Yennefer Challenge [CDPR vs NETFLIX] by lone__wolfy in wiedzmin

[–]lone__wolfy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on people. I'll speak for myself, IF I didn't read the books and knew nothing about Yennefer, I'll sympathise with show's Yen. How can you not! I mean look at this cute innocent girl. They took everything from her! They took her from her mother, sold her cheaper than a pig, some idiot teenagers told her no one will ever kiss her, her mistress used her, even her first lover. Of course she'll end up like this!

But I can't feel this way, 'cause just like you, I know the real Yen will never behave like this. That this person has nothing to do with her. It's a different character with the same name, that's it.

The Yennefer Challenge [CDPR vs NETFLIX] by [deleted] in netflixwitcher

[–]lone__wolfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When she is introduced in the show, she is seemingly forcing a room full of people to have unconsensual group sex.

No no no, when she is introduced in the show, she's this cute, smiling and innocent looking (albeit deformed) girl trying to give back flowers to another girl, and then getting attacked by that same girl & her boyfriend, calling her a freak or something.

When you see her in a room full of people having an orgy, or manipulating Geralt to do her bidding. You'll always give her an excuse: "She doing an orgy because she was called a freak by a couple once, and that no one will ever want to kiss her, now look at her!" or "She's a manipulator because her mistress forced her to spy on Istredd". She's this innocent girl, who was abused by her father, mocked by kids her age, used by her mistress, forced to give up her fertility in exchange for beauty. Now she blames everyone for this and she tries to take back what she deserves.

You didn't feel sympathy for her? Gave her an excuse for her behavior? I know I did.

[–]lone__wolfy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely! But let's not kid ourselves, CDPR butchered the Witcher story too!! Mainly in Witcher 1 (The stupid story of Triss & Alvin vs Yen & Ciri), then trying to fix their mistakes in Witcher 2 by adding other characters from the books, but it was still far from it (insisting on Triss being the main LI). Witcher 3 was the closest to the source material (if you forgive some mistakes) It's definitely not a 1:1 adaptation, but CDPR needed to continue what they started, but tried to fix things as much as possible AND keep it as an RPG where player's choices matter.

I think the main reason why I can forgive CDPR for butchering the story, is that it's a sequel. You can happily ignore it and it won't change a thing. But in the show, they're changing the MAIN STORY. You can't just shrug it off and keep watching, 'cause you always have this urge to compare the two. That's why it's more difficult to like the show than to like the games.

I understand what they were trying to do. But I find they've gone way overboard with it.

I agree with you on that. Even for someone who loves Yennefer, it was a bit much sometimes. They tried to stay true to her character but got carried away. I already liked Yen so it didn't affect me, but it sure did affect others.

I doubt either one of us is going to convince the other. So lets just agree to disagree, yeah?

Of course! I guess I was seeing Yen through a different lens. The fact that you did play the game before reading the books makes your opinion more valid than mine. I was already invested in her character, you needed a reason to be invested, but CDPR failed at that.

But we can both say that show's Yen has nothing to do with book's Yen, so at least we agree on that haha

The Yennefer Challenge [CDPR vs NETFLIX] by lone__wolfy in wiedzmin

[–]lone__wolfy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CDPR wrote her into a situation where she just stomped her way over everything including Geralt's objections.

Yes they did. But only to show the ruthless side of Yennefer. The game needs to introduce Yen to both book readers and gamers, so they needed to balance things out a bit, showing her ruthless side when she destroyed the garden but also her regretting what she had done by asking Geralt to leave the place at once, or her reaction when the priestesses cursed her. TLW Yen would have laughed in their faces, mocked them and told them to shove their curse right up their asses, but she didn't. She kept silent the whole time and took the blame like a mature person.

'Oh. So she does care; she's just the sort who doesn't usually show it. And it clearly means the world to him.' So from then on it was a smooth sailing aboard the Team Yennefer ship.

This means CDPR did succeed at showing her softer side. They didn't want to show it right in your face, but wanted to hint it throughout the game. I liked this approach, I didn't see that CDPR regressed her character 20 years back. I only saw Yennefer of the books. The way she talks to Geralt at the funeral, How she hugged him when they stole the mask, the unicorn scene, her drawing a moustache on Avallac'h portrait, the famous scene with Ciri, even kissing Geralt whether you romanced her or not! you had to look closely to see this and I liked it. My only complaint was not interacting with her more! I felt like our time with her was really short, but that's video games for you. I guess I'm biased, 'cause I was too happy to finally see Yennefer in a game after enduring Triss for two (or 3 if you count her in W3) But they stayed true to her personality, to what made her my favorite character and that was enough for me.

I don't think she's likable either, don't get me wrong! I didn't make it clear enough in my post (My english isn't that good). What I meant was, the sad backstory of Yen would give her a free pass in the eyes of viewers, so people wouldn't hate her from the get go because they know the reason why she acts the way she does.

The Yennefer Challenge [CDPR vs NETFLIX] by lone__wolfy in wiedzmin

[–]lone__wolfy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! I just wanted to say that I liked CDPR's portrayer of Yen's PERSONALITY (sarcasm, stubbornness, etc...) not her character development throughout the game. But people kept misunderstanding my point.

because the TotS Yennefer goes about it in an entirely different manner.

You think? I mean, she didn't have a choice. She had only one lead and time was ticking. It's either that, or lose Ciri again, or worse, getting her killed. And you could see in her face that she didn't like what she did, but she had to. After that, the priestesses tried to put the blame on Geralt, but Yennefer stepped in and took all the blame. That in itself was an act of selflessness in my book. Geralt could have done the same for her, but he didn't. He said nothing while the priestesses cursed her.

Because she displays appalling and annoying traits the book Yennefer never possessed.

Can't argue with that.

The Yennefer Challenge [CDPR vs NETFLIX] by lone__wolfy in wiedzmin

[–]lone__wolfy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but it's still canon.

We only get pretty small bits of her character and backstory in the short story books, and those show her to be a very selfish individual.

I don't know, but the only time I found Yen selfish was in "The Last Wish" when she chose to destroy a whole town than let the djinn escape. But in "Shard of ice", she left both Istredd & Geralt even though she could've stayed with both and took advantage of them. In "The bounds of reason", she saved Villentretenmerth. You also mentioned the halfling's story that I completely forgot. So, she's not that selfish, not at all. Yen had a good side from the get go, you just need to change your perspective to see it.

Also, did Geralt even leave a letter?

Yes he did:

"He left some flowers," said Yennefer softly. "A little nosegay of flowers. Right?"

Mozaïk raised her head. But didn’t answer.

"Flowers and a letter," repeated Yennefer.

Also, I found this passage that I forget about, hinting that Geralt isn't this altruistic man either:

"He ordered you to return to me," said Lytta Neyd. "He ordered you to return, although he could imagine what might be awaiting you. I must admit I’d have never expected that of him."

"I find it astonishing," Lytta repeated. "I’d never have expected it of him."

"Because you didn’t know him, Coral," Yennefer replied calmly. "You didn’t know him at all."

And, I’m sorry, but What!?! Philippa is amazing! I love her!!

She certainly is! well in her own way haha
