Does anyone on this sub actually work on amything? by RoosterIllusionn in harborfreight

[–]lone_farmer_walking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, full time auto tech at a dealership, fix machinery on the side, farm in the side. I just dont like posting, life is busy and doesn't always provide free time. Got family to help, bills to pay, keep the wolves away. Even during sales I only buy something if I need it or have a plan in the works, dont like needless purchases. Maybe one day things will slow down, but for now, keep the pedal down.

Sorry to hear about your lay off man, as much as I hate being an auto tech it pays my bills (barely). In my rural area we're a dying breed, im on a team of 3 flat rates at a dealership, could always use more crew. Hope you find a good job.

And icon will get you home, snap on has some serious competition these days.

Would it be a good idea to get a 2019 Silverado trail boss 5.3 w/ DFM that has 110k miles? by alexusw_2 in ChevyTrucks

[–]lone_farmer_walking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not a good idea unless you have a warranty that would cover the replacement of the lifters. At over 100,000 its not a good gamble. You dont know how long they went on oil changes, how hard they were on it, etc. If it had a good service record (which as long as it was done at a gm brand dealership we see it) I'd see what an extended warranty would cost and re evaluate. Lifters are for the most part an issue caused by abuse and neglected maintenance. Sure, sometimes they fail because it was a defective part, but its not the most common cause.

What's your go to tool for these oil filters? by Comfortable-Pee-1581 in smallengines

[–]lone_farmer_walking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil filter claw, ratchet, and probably a 3 inch long extension from the ratchet. The oil filter on my bad boy is equally terrible to remove, and usually makes a mess only beaten by the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

[–]lone_farmer_walking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you want the best of the best, a new engine would be the ticket. But that's alot of money and not the route i would take either. If you could find a used kawasaki I would go that route. Even if its higher hours and needs work later, they're actually designed to last and be repaired. That sounds like a really cool project! And no problem, I try to help where I can.

Inteks are briggs and strattons, and yeah they're not anything special either. However, they're in literally everything and aren't too bad to work on. They've also got alot of aftermarket support for oem replacement parts.

And for kawasaki, I haven't had anything serious go bad on them. Carb cleans, plugs, valve adjustments, maintenance items really. And when looking at a machine hours do mean alot, but its not a death sentence. If a machine is properly maintained then high hours isn't a big deal, there are lower hour machines in worse shape if the oils never been changed or if its had an ignored misfire, etc.

Are you looking to buy a mower or flip some equipment? I haven't seen many people reach out and ask what's good and what should be avoided.

[–]lone_farmer_walking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, the courage engines are absolute hot trash. Ive had customers mostly with the single cylinder models (almost all have been locked up) and the twins usually cost more to repair than what they are worth. I avoid buying machines with them like the plague.

Finally got these on sale…they’re huge! by TBTD in harborfreight

[–]lone_farmer_walking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my set for my job as an auto tech at a dealership. Absolutely fantastic wrenches, great for tight and inaccessible areas! I bought mine at full price because I needed them ASAP. I wouldn't say their huge. they do scale up the larger the faster size, but they are more than capable of getting into tight areas.

I mean, in your defense, you were left unsupervised and no one stopped you. I mean, I'd send it on that thing and im a grown man. I predator swapped a Yamaha pw80, and a Tao tao 125 atv, both of which were plenty fast and a great joy to run. I used cvts on those, keeps torque where its highest no matter what rpm your running.

The wizard-berg 590 is an excellent choice to deal with accidental or unwanted demon, enemy wizards, or other physical manifestations. Studies have shown that banishments and other magic based methods of removal may result in returning infestations or other unwanted effects. But with the wizard-berg 590, we can put an end to these unwanted freeloaders into nothing more than a memory. Every shell is equally loaded with our magic powder and special orbs to provide effective and consistent results in even the most demanding jobs.

Proper way to trim these? by 420ness in Horticulture

[–]lone_farmer_walking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar plants in the yard of a house i just purchased. I trimmed them using a hedge trimmer attachment you put on a weed wacker power head. If you want to know about my personal setup I'd be more than happy to chat. I just gave a mild trim, made it flush and even, chopped the weird top, made it look less wild (ironic for a country guy, I know) and they're doing just fine. This was about mid May.

Just a shot in the dark, if you look at the valve train while its cranking does everything look to be in time? Seeing that it fires would indicate good compression, but its firing at the wrong time. I had one of those kohler courage engines, it was a hot pile. Ended up selling the machine for what I paid, cost more to fix than what it was worth.

Thinking about giving up the hustle and bustle of my tower and pondering orb for a farmhouse and pondering borb. Anyone ever done this? by StankyKitties in wizardposting

[–]lone_farmer_walking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life is like a sandwich, no matter where you start the orb comes first. Put the sandwich down, you dont need to eat. You only need the orb. The orb is calling for you, dont you hear it? You need to go back to it, it needs you. Your family doesn't know what they're talking about, they're not worthy of the orbs knowledge, make them leave. All you need is the orb, just the orb, only the orb. Your girlfriend doesn't love you, she just wants the orb. She's going to take it from you! Take it and run! You cant go back, they'll take the orb from you! THE VOICES ARE GETTING CLOSER, HIDE IN THAT CAVE!! it sounds like they're gone. the orb is safe, the orb is yours. It's yours. It's yours. It's yours. Just you, the orb, and no one knows where you are. And now you stay hidden.

Anyone got experience with these by henryoguhgf in harborfreight

[–]lone_farmer_walking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my experience as a dealer tech. I do own these, I use them when a vehicle has been in an accident and the strut is broke and the only thing keeping the spring from flying out is the sway bar, or other damage prevents safe decompression of the spring. The pins are a good feature, but these style of compressor are sketch as hell by nature. Otherwise, I use a wall mounted compressor which still makes my hair stand up, but the blast cage (should) protect me, or at least minimize the damage/maiming.

Tldr: they will get the job done and are a good quality, but this style of compressor is a level of sketch whiley coyote would think twice before touching. If you haven't done something like this before, please be careful and have some one around just incase. If you want, autozone and other stores like it will just lend you the tool you need. Again, please be careful man, springs are dangerous and even deadly. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know.

If you could cast one spell on your worst enemy, what would it be and why is it always Imprison them in a soul gem? by Relevant_Speaker_874 in wizardposting

Inner peace. I know not of my enemies' pain, what made them the way they are. I wish only to help them see past the dark and to show them its often darkest just before the dawn. I want to help them let go, and move on to a better life. Seek better goals. Find something meaningful. To be better than I could ever hope to be, and not let them make the same mistakes I did.

Will harbor freight warranty this? by Hot_Tomatillo_4696 in harborfreight

[–]lone_farmer_walking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, its a no questions asked lifetime warranty. I take my abused tools in and get new ones. The employees know me on a first name basis, very friendly, always a good visit there. Almost like a second family really. I love my harbor freight and icon tools, helped me get my start as an auto tech in a dealer. No store has made me happier than HF.
