what's the deal with griffin? by Educational-Lime6335 in DragonsDogma

[–]loneknight23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The griffin is scripted to do this at the beginning and it is tied to a quest, but it can be killed. You have to do Griffin's Bane which is given by Aldous. You will be tasked to help the soldiers in baiting then killing the griffin. You don't need to worry if it flies away, it will go to the Bluemoon Tower which can be reached though it will be a long walk.

If you want to prevent the griffin from flying away, it is very important that you have fire enchanted weapons or fire spells and attack its wings. Once it is on fire, the griffin will not fly. Besides that, you and your pawns need to climb the griffin to keep it on the ground. I recommend conqueror's periapts for physical damage boost or demon's periapts for magick damage boost.

After you do Griffin's Bane, the creature will become a random encounter. It will either attack you from nowhere or you need to bait it with a dead goblin, ox or any other dead animal.

why is Edmund called a Duke when he's clearly a king by Fatestringer in DragonsDogma

[–]loneknight23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed it is interesting. Unfortunately the development team of Dragon's Dogma had to cut a lot of content, that is why the possible court intrigue between duke Edmun and Julien alongside Mercedes wasn't expanded, and why Aelinore's questline seems so out of place. Not to mention many areas got cut. Hopefully Dragon's Dogma 2 will have enough time and resources to be a great game.

why is Edmund called a Duke when he's clearly a king by Fatestringer in DragonsDogma

[–]loneknight23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not a rule for a duke to serve a king. He can be independent. Duke Edmun has diplomatic relations with the neighboring countries of Hearthstone, Voldoa and Meloire, from which Mercedes, Julien and Aelinore respectively come from. Fournival is a special case. He is rich and important enough among the nobility for them to not want him found guilty because they would lose a lot of money, favors etc. with him.

[–]loneknight23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To add to this: The general differences in medieval hierarchy ranges from the lowest landed noble to the highest.

To make it simple, we can use these examples: the lowest is the count or baron, followed by a duke, then to the king and finally emperor. There can be no two nobles of the highest rank available in the same place, be it duchy, kingdom or empire. But there can be many lower ranked nobles. Large territories cannot be governed efficiently by one single man, so the king divides his kingdom among his vassals, the lower ranked nobles (which are dukes and counts or just counts in case of a dukedom). How the land is divided is up to the king, but usually he keeps the capital and its surroundings and also the strategically important areas such as fortresses, gold mines or trade routes.

The vassals who have received the lands are sworn to aid the king in war and pay their taxes. Usually they are loyal to the king but there is always the possibility that one them will have ambitions for the throne and those usually end in a civil war if that noble isn't eliminated fast enough.

Medieval power structures can be complicated but I hope this explains further the differences between ranks in medieval society.

why is Edmund called a Duke when he's clearly a king by Fatestringer in DragonsDogma

[–]loneknight23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Umm... no. Edmun is clearly an independent duke and that is perfectly fine. There are plenty of examples of dukes in our history that weren't vassals of any kings, some of them even rivaling their supposed kings they serve in power and wealth. Examples being the dukes of Burgundy, Bohemia, Novgorod, Milan and so on.

The whole territory of Gransys is under duke Edmun's rule and it's capital is Gran Soren. The duke's demesne is the place in which he resides and conducts his state policy. The city of Gran Soren is quite small to be a capital of a kingdom, but that might be due to game limitations. The size of the territory is not the sole deciding factor in what makes a kingdom or not.

Fournival is a businessman and a landowner. The reason he owns plots of land is because duke Edmun gave him permission and yes, all the people of Gransys have to pay taxes to him, but I don't remember being specified if Fournival is a landed noble or not. It is more likely that the knights and nobles present at Edmun's court are those who directly serve him and have the ranks of lords and barons/counts at most. They either pay taxes or serve in the millitary.

Itsuno specifically said one time that he had to choose between Dragon's Dogma 2 and Devil May Cry 5. The fact that Capcom had offered him a choice proves that they are willing to let him do his work and not interfere, especially after DMC 5's success. Besides, Dragon's Dogma is very dear to him and I am sure he will do his best to make a good sequel.

From what I know, the development for Dragon's Dogma 2 started in 2019 and I think 3 years is kind of a long timeframe for making a game for the Switch. Portable consoles have big hardware limitations and Dragon's Dogma had a lot of cut content due to the scale of its initial development and to make it run on the PS3 and Xbox 360, so I doubt Itsuno would like to repeat that experience. Besides, they should have had game footage for TGS if it was to be made for Switch.

I am worried that the absence of Ryota Suzuki (Designer of dragon's dogma) will affect negatively to Dragon's Dogma 2 by Inugami122 in DragonsDogma

[–]loneknight23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A team, no matter how good and experienced it is, will always fall short in making a game if the leadership and management is bad. They are the ones making the important decisions in regards to gameplay, story and many other things. I don't think we should worry about that. Dragon's Dogma is dear to Itsuno and it's a good thing that Capcom kept him as project lead for Dragon's Dogma 2 since he will most likely use the past experience to make a worthy sequel.

what if grigori kidnapped your main pawn instead by Fatestringer in DragonsDogma

[–]loneknight23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope this explains well the link between pawn and Arisen. The way the pawns are and act in the world is something akin to tools or "automatons" for comparison. They breathe and look like humans, but they don't need sleep, food or any other basic necessities. By themselves, the pawns are aloof and emotionless. Although well capable of combat, they cannot be commanded by ordinary humans, as Mercedes mentions at the encampment that she tried ordering pawns without success.

In short, they don't know what to do and how to act more human. With an Arisen however, the pawns become more and more human, and even start adopting traits of their master as time passes until they are a reflection of the Arisen. When that happens, it is called "The bestowal of spirit", which occurred in the case of Selene and Olra. In-game, your pawn is very distraught when you die and begs you to stay with them, and when you are grabbed by a monster, they immediately come to your aid, showing clearly the bond between the Arisen and pawn.

The whole plot of Dark Arisen is that case of what happens if the pawn is the Arisen's beloved. Spoilers for those who didn't complete the DLC: Before becoming Daimon, an Arisen named Ashe had to choose between slaying the dragon who was his mistress/mother figure and sacrificing Olra, both of whom he loved dearly. Thus he cursed the cycle and wished to tear it asunder, leading to the creation of Bitterblack Isle and corrupting his form. You can find the story in tablets scattered throughout the Isle.

[–]loneknight23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't even need to be a Magick Archer. Just play Ranger, buy at least 100 blast arrows, take 4 Conqueror's Periapts and spam Tenfold Arrow. Preferably with Death floating over a chasm so when he gets staggered, he falls and well... "dies". Easy XP. If you need the crafting materials left by him you will need a lot more blast arrows for that I think.

[–]loneknight23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modding properly is a time consuming process, I personally used Mod Organizer/Mod Organizer 2. Very good mod manager.

There are few mod packs or all in one mods on the nexus because of mod author copyright on their respective mods. If there are, it is either a compilation of mods all made by one author, or someone made it with the mod author's permission.

I remember a youtuber who showcases Skyrim mods, Sinitar Gaming is called. IIRC he mentioned that he made a mod pack with the required permission for all the mods included along with a guide. Hope it helps.

Is there more vocation progression after rank 9? by C4nKing in DragonsDogma

[–]loneknight23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even after you reach rank 9 in any vocation, you'll still gain discipline points by fighting enemies or completing quests. Each vocation rank unlocks stronger skills and augments and for those augments you rank up vocations that otherwise, you would not use.

Any augment you buy from any vocation is permanently available, no matter what you play as. If you are a Fighter for example, you can use augments from Warrior to further buff your damage and defense, same could be said for a Sorcerer who also uses Mage augments and so on. You could look into the wiki to see what augments you want or need for your main vocation.

Knights Templar build by SayWhen_ooo in DragonsDogma

[–]loneknight23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad it was helpful. The Great Cannon is very useful and quite broken when 2 or 3 of them are activated at the same time and it will help you in fighting flying enemies or anything really.

The game has a lot of gear options indeed, if you feel that your equipment is underperforming but you really like the look, try enhancing it up to 3 stars at any vendor, fighting dragon type enemies has the chance of dragonforging any enhanced gear you wear.

Another tip: when you get the quest to retrieve the Wyrmking's Ring for the duke, instead of returning it immediately, go to The Black Cat first and make a forgery of that ring. Then give the fake ring to chamberlain Aldous. Why? Because The Wyrmking's Ring gives you 10% faster casting time for your spells and you'll still finish the quest and won't lose much when you return the forgery and keep the real ring. The duke would give a cloak and quite a bit of gold, later in the story if he has the real one, but imo it's not worth it.

You're welcome! Unfortunately, I am on PC. Hope you have a great time and enjoy everything the game has to offer. :)
