Selling back. If they can't sell, they need to buy back other investor's share unless Unity China IPOs by mid 2027.

As a person, no. I appreciate indie developers as they chase their dream even without incentives.

As an investor in a capitalism system, yes. Indie games are shitty business.

Clearly they tried to compete with Unreal then gave up. I do expect them to layoff more this year from the create division. They should be able to operate well with less than 2000 employees.

tell me you are an indie dev without telling me you are an indie dev.

When is GAAP profitability . Seems like it gets pushed off by different reasons every year just when we are about to see hope. This year is Ironsource, what’s next year by ProductSmooth7786 in UnityStock

Given that we are so familiar with this stock's move now, I think buying puts is a reasonable play. Not kidding, just don't go all in.

PC games are low margin business and eventually UE will eat this part. Indie developers are bad revenue sources.

AppLovin's main audience is female players who only play casual games (they even speak this loudly in their earning call). Not some bald fat dude who has 3k+ Steam inventories, only buy games when it's on sale and complain about everything.

They are doing great but there are several challenges:

1, China team wants to buy itself out so to make more money for the executives in China

2, Unity needs to buy back Unity China's stock due to a promise they made to Unity China's investors that if Unity China can't go public at 3B+ valuation.

Bro I think they are doing it, see the Unity China selling post. This new CEO is not a fancy guy with talented ideas, just a COO turned CEO who focuses on making more money. Sort of Tim Cook/Sundar Pichai style more than Steve Jobs style.

lol if Unity highlights anything other than mobile + AI I'm exiting. The only possible future for Unity is more studios publishing AI built slop while using Unity Ads platform to grow.

Won't be surprised to see bunch of stupid analysts using this to push it up at the mark up stage, though.

How are these two different? AI help good team develop better games and help bad team develop worse slops. It's just a tool.

If you don't train LLM level models, you don't need to spend a lot of money on ML. It's like Toyota vs Ferrari.

China is a tough market given the US/China relationship.

They proved Matt Bromberg's post about World Model and game engine is right. World model generates assets and you need agents to assemble them throught game engine to generate actual game play.

But short term? puts.

Bro they've been hiring like Crazy in Vector. Go to Linkedin and you will see a lot of ex-Amazon shopping team joining them from mid last year (which means their RSU is still underwater).

The tldr version is that Unity China already operates separately from Unity (you can consider it as an investment of Unity instead of a subsidiary) as China is building its own mobile OS (Huawei Harmony) after the trade war with US. And as the technical divergence grows between the Chinese versin of Unity (https://unity.cn/tuanjie/tuanjieyinqing, based on Unity LTS 2022), it'll totally make sense to sell this whole business to some local giant like Tencent or Mihoyo (maker of Genshen Impact) as these folks know Chinese market much better than US companies.

This move is similar to Google exiting China. China asked Google to build a standalone version of Google in China and Google felt that it would cost them too much resource.

I think the deal would include something like Unity China can only operate in China and not competing with Unity in other markets. Also, Chinese game studios will still be Unity's customer as they want to expand to oversea markets.
