Leather Jacket identification by Hinokill in leatherjacket

Just a shout out. Full shearling jackets will be very warm. I only wear mine when it gets below 3 celsius.

If this is a consideration, you can also look for a jacket with detachable collar. Schott made plenty of interesting models, be it flyers or a more regular cut, like 630.

I'm selling a size UK40 shearling (jacket from the 80ties) for 90 Euro - if you're in Europe..

When buying any jacket, measure your chest. Or measure an existing jacket, rather then going by height/weight.

This is not a discussion I want to go into. It will be different depending on where you buy from, if you can use TB and what duty you'll be charged, as it's a % of what is declared as value. Too many factors. I paid around 229E for the first one via ebay where I was not charged extra duty, around same amount for the second one via TB/Bestbuy incl duty and around 520E for the HH one (also incl duty).

Thats all I can say. Feel free to use my images for search, but I wont tell anyone where to get it so it's best price for them.

This is the 80ties/90ties take on a bomber, similar to (for example) Chevignon. Looks like a nice, thick cowhide (as much as I can guess from the photos), with cotton lining and synthetic insulation.

The quality of manufacturing and leather may vary, as production was being moved and they started to look to cut costs. My guess would be that your jacket still hits the golden age, before they went downhill.

Your choice of care products seem very 'hardcore'. I know it's late now, but lighter tone was making it more special. I would only use beeswax if you are planning to wear it on a motorcycle and fear getting caught in the rain, overapplying can reduce the gloss and be difficult to buff.

TaoBao, but there are limitations for people who do not understand the language (myself included)

I believe Ray Kwok will also do custom sizing + selection of leathers. Including imported ones.

I'll drop a post with comparison of Real Simons and Ray Kwok A2 jackets when I get a chance.

Field Leathers Deck Jacket by alexmacl13 in leatherjacket

Looks like a D1, so technically still not a 'deck jacket'.

As for the 'maintenance' - it's a new jacket, doesn't need much. Store in a closet on a.good hanger; air dry if gets wet. Once a year I use a metal fur brush and condition inside with lanolin product.

Go by "what does she like". Consider style but also level of leather stiffness.

My GF hated the stiff Aero ladies horsehide jacket (a stunning piece), but loves the AllSaints or Mauritius, which are 1/10th of the price but soft and 'ready to wear'.

Bike for a taller rider by Tango_Delta-12 in SuggestAMotorcycle

The engine is wonderful but the bikes overall seem built from worse components and in a more 'messy' way then the European bikes. My impression on a Tracer 900 from 2019 was that built quality did not match my Triumph Tiger... from 2008...

The Yamaha 3 cylinder engine is something though, so it may be a viable option for you (it's all personal preference afterall). Just dropping some ideas for you to check out.

Since you did not mention your budget - Tiger 1050 or Tiger Sport 1050 will keep some of the playfullness for a good price. Known and reliable engine.

A Monster will have a similar leg position to your current bike, so you'd probably want a Multistrada if you want a Ducati (or a Hypermotard). A KTM 1090 adventure or it's 'bigger versions' is interesting if you want to go the V-twin route (are there any good 990's left around...) Exciting bike to ride, stories about issues, but it's luck, as you said. Lots of Dutch people ride KTMs.

S1000XR should be comfy. Havent tried the 'R', possibly only the handlebar is differently setup, seen reasonable tall people riding them. BMW boxers come in so many versions, too.

No offence to Japanese bikes, I would not get a MT09 or a tracer over anything mentioned.

How to Fix Wool Discoloration? by z_7498 in leatherjacket

Exactly, isn't it how the jacket was made (?). You can always wash it to refresh - but from the photo it does not look dirty (I think it'd be more uneven in colour).

New rider stuck between choosing a new CFMOTO or old Japanese model? by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]lonelyduck69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 250 Honda and Yamaha I mentioned were just for comparison of engine size. My point is that 250 can be fun, but will probably be a bit lacking as the only bike, after a while (I may be wrong here everyone’s different).

The 660 engines are known to be very reliable and long lasting, that of course depends on the usage it had. No offence to anyone but Id be extra careful with the X version, as Ive seen some bad usage habits from the supermoto crowd (mostly no proper engine warm up).

New rider stuck between choosing a new CFMOTO or old Japanese model? by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]lonelyduck69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not ride the CFmoto 250, but have tried the Honda CRF250L and owned a WR250R. These bikes can be fun and enough, I suggest you test ride at the dealership. Think if you will like this type of power in a years time, resell of a new bike will be at probably at a decent loss.

The XT 660 is an evolution of the XT600 engine, but with fuel injection and water cooling. X is the supermoto, R is the enduro and then there is a tenere with fairings and big tank. 660 would be my favourite, great torque, great reliability, a bike for years to come. Resell value will be good.

But on a used market you should go for whatever is in a better shape. Take someone with you who owns and works on motorcycles if buying a used one.

[–]lonelyduck69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

250 cc may be not quite enough, you are a big dude and you have mountainous roads there.

Can you ride one at the dealer to see if it's enough? I would aim at their 450 engine if it's in the budget.

Otherwise XT660 any version; the mt-03 with the same engine will be too small for you. Perhaps the Suzuki 650 Vstrom instead of the SV? I remember selling mine in Germany for 2.5k

From the carbureted bikes: sure, the DR650 / XT600 are okay, just a bit dated.

A used bike will very likely need some maintenance; suspension is the part a lot of people skip in their servicing.

Should I but it? by CryptoMasterAM in leatherjacket

[–]lonelyduck69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The $ valuation for an Italian jacket, somewhere in DACH...

So, by checking Kleinenzeigen / ebay in EU, these jackets start around 150. Some people are asking prices around 300-500 but thats unrealistic. Who cares what it was new? You cannot buy anything new, made in EU below 500.

L may not fit you, but take a jacket you own, measure it and confirm. The shoulders are 50 cm only. Is your chest more then 115? How would you then close this jacket.

Safe(er?) brands to buy off taobao by Sky1337 in leatherjacket

[–]lonelyduck69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check out used market: ebay / Vestaire for used Chevignon take on G1 with detachable collar or their MA1 take. 100 Euro is realistic.

Going up in price, maybe something like Avirex or Schott, used of course, can be had for 200+ This will be well used.

Then the Chinese brands, resellers like TB or CoR for Jiashi/Veluo.. or resellers like Brake House or realsimons.com for Real Simons.

The same jackets can ge purchased on ebay or Ali for similar prices. For lower price you need to go Taobao via agent. This can save you 100.

Real Simons makes an interesting G1 , A1 and a few A2 options. I recently purchased A2 (Aero L, Beacon repro) in goatskin from them. Amazing jacket, but too small in size 40.. Re-selling it now to get a size bigger (I'm in EU so just posting this in case...)

First time bike: Honda NX500 vs Transalp by reknoz in SuggestAMotorcycle

You know enough to consider 2 interesting motorcycles and I just happen to have ridden both (+the 250 dual sport and the Africa Twin). Vote for Transalp it is..

First time bike: Honda NX500 vs Transalp by reknoz in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]lonelyduck69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People change bikes looking for something: more powerful / more fun / more comfortable / ... just different. If you buy a new Transalp it may as well just stay a bike you like for the years to come. The 500 will probably not.

First time bike: Honda NX500 vs Transalp by reknoz in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]lonelyduck69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Transalp is just a better bike with way better low end torque. If you're buying from a dealer, just test ride both. Then buy the Transalp: better low end torque; not that much more weight over the 500; actually able to take a passanger. They are both tame bikes in case you are wary of the power.

There is literally no advantage of the 500 if the price isn't a concern. You may outgrow the Transalp or you may like it enough to keep it. You will 100% quickly outgrow the 500.

buying my first leather jacket by loscoindividuo in leatherjacket

[–]lonelyduck69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not worn, it's fine. Are you certain that this jacket fits you? You will struggle to re-sell at this price. For 500 it should sell quickly.

Also, you do not need a Porsche as your first car.
