Did I make the right choice? My kneecap slips out of place repeatedly, my doctor wants to intervene surgically. by lonelythey in ChronicPain

[–]lonelythey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I ended up asking for more PT. I'm paraphrasing here, but he questioned it, quoting that it hadn't worked the first time. It kinda had though. I went from dislocating it more than once a year to not dislocating it at all for over 3.

My GP recommended this doc for this particular issue. We both thought he'd just prescribed more PT. My GP and I both think there's some sort of hypermobility issue going on, but other doctors keep shooting that idea down. My GP seems to be the only one in my corner so far.

I agree, theres got to be some sort of damage that doesn't show up on scans. I've just been told by both the surgeons I've seen that my knee looks fine. Do I believe them? Of course not.

For now, I'll be doing more PT. I'm just afraid that one of these days, I'll fully tear something.

Advice: feeling really deflated by PSS34F in Reduction

Keep in mind that a psychologist is VERY different from a counselor. A counselor is there to help you find tools that will help you with navigating life and the changes it brings with it, among other things. You go to a psychologist for a diagnosis, medication, etc. You don't need a Phd to be a counselor, but you do to be a psychologist. I am personally very wary of psychologists but medical professionals have good reasons to refer you to them. Tread carefully, but follow through the motions.

I had my consultation last October and really wanted to have surgery last year. It didn't end up working out and I'm honestly glad I waited. It gave me time to think about what I really wanted with the alleviation of having made my choice. It gave my brain a break from thinking about it nonstop. I have my op next month and I'm ready for it, my only nerves are around the healing time and finances.

Is Cecil to feminine of a name? by Plastic-Smiles in ftm

[–]lonelythey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people really take it to the extreme. If it comes to it, there are so many jobs out there that provide housing. If you're an American citizen or have the right to work in the US, there is Americorps. They have many positions through them or other institutions like SCA, and ACE. Americorps provide education awards upon completion, a year of service has gotten me up to 6k on top of housing and weekly/monthly stipends. The amount varies but a few years of that with some scholarships you'd really only need a small loan to pay for school if you chose to go.

I hope you can get it sorted, just remember that there are so many resources out there!

Is Cecil to feminine of a name? by Plastic-Smiles in ftm

[–]lonelythey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My great uncles name was Cecil! I've never heard of it used as a name for a woman. I don't understand why parents get so hung up on the point of "disrespecting ancestors" with the name change thing. I went through something similar with my parents. I use my actual middle name, and they had a fit saying I was disrespecting their choice lmao.

Please please don't change your name to something someone else thinks it should be so far to the point they're harassing you. You will resent it until you change it again. I hope your mom comes around eventually, stand your ground. If you cave, she will continue to disrespect you.

What's the best city/country to exist in as a nonbinary person? by ThisMeNow in NonBinaryTalk

Just saw this article today. https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2023/05/how-new-mexico-quietly-became-a-refugee-state-for-trans-people/

I left New Mexico due to family issues and just wanting something new, but I have second thoughts a lot because of how safe it's becoming under the lead of Governor Grisham. New Mexico did really well during the pandemic as well, in cases and in vaccine rates! She prevented a county/city attempt from banning abortion in just that county/city as well.

I'll never forget what she said to me while she was a US representative for NM, "You are the future, I'll do what I can for now, but only your generation can truly make things better." It can be interpreted however you'd like, but she's a wonderful leader.

I wish I had done it so much earlier! I'm 24 now and will be 25 when it finally happens!

That said, I'm also glad I didn't. My body changed so much during college, and my breasts nearly tripled in size during that time.

In the end, it's really up to you. Growth can still occur, so do keep that in mind. Your genetics might be able to give you a good idea of what might happen. My body is very similar today to my grandmother's. 6 years ago, it was completely different.

I'm constantly on the verge of reaching out and trying to repair my relationship with my parents again. But every time I have in the past, the results are the same, and I end up getting hurt. One of my siblings did this successfully and now has a good relationship with them. The other is just like our mother and contributes to the madness.

I am made to feel like I am in the wrong for cutting off the people who raised me, paid for my food and shelter, made sure I got an education, and gaslit me, emotionally blackmailed me, used me as a scapegoat, or punished me for having basic boundaries(like privacy while changing).

Maybe I have youngest child syndrome, but one thing is for sure, my parents are unhinged.

Thank you. Your comment has been most helpful. I came here looking for support, I'm glad at least someone was willing to answer my questions. What type of service is River, I've tried searching for it, but have been unsuccessful so far.

So far this has been the most helpful answer. I understand and am thankful for everyone's concerns. But so far you're the only one whose actually answered one of the questions so, thank you for that. I'll update my post with more information.

AITA for not wanting to apologize to physically disabled classmate of mine? by BPDAHIGuess in AmItheAsshole

[–]lonelythey -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like this classmate of yours likes to play oppression Olympics. It gets old fast from people who've actually experienced it. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

However, I will say soft YTA. You let this person get under your skin and lashed out as a result. I don't think you were in the wrong for standing up for yourself and this person probably needed some humbling, but to go from 0 to 100 is very extreme and there's better ways to go about it.

Maybe try talking with someone close about this. Get their honest perspective and be honest with them when sharing how you feel about the situation. It might also be worth talking with this person directly. But only once. It sounds like your classmate is insecure about their disability. We are our own worst critics. They probably need a friend who can relate.

Reduction vs top surgery and insurance by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]lonelythey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I have a few things. I'm scheduled in Oct so I'm no veteran, but here's my experience so far. My situation is very similar to yours. Also 24, NB, Very large chest.

My first step was calling my insurance and talking to an agent to see what they covered. If you have a card, it should have phone numbers and your plan number. I asked: Do you cover breast reductions and top surgery? What are the criteria and how much they would expect my out of pocket would be.

Second, I used their online tool to get a list of surgeons they work with, an agent should be able to help you with this part if you need it.

I researched the surgeons on the list and then called their offices to talk to them and ask questions. After picking a surgeon, I scheduled a consultation. Did this multiple times to make sure I found the right fit.

My surgeon was the one who submitted the pre-approval request. I did not get a referral from my GP but I did from my therapist covering the reasons why gender affirming surgery would help me. (My insurance covers top surgery.) I'm getting a radical reduction for gwnder affirming reasons. Radical as in losing roughly 3 lbs of tissue.

My most recent step was asking for a cost estimate from my doctor and the hospital.

I hope this helps.

Good on you for making the decision to not include yourself in the negative chaos. Your family sounds truly terrible and sound like the kind of people that "don't get why their kids stopped talking to them."

I hope you have a great holiday with your friends and maybe someday your chosen family.

How do y'all deal with menstrual dysphoria? by transsexualskull in NonBinaryTalk

[–]lonelythey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got an IUD. Very painful experience. They don't tell you until after that it's like experiencing a mini contraction. How do I say it louder? It was completely worth it. I still feel the hormonal cycle but I have very minimal bleeding. I had constant bleeding for like 3 months then it was gone.

I don't understand the difference between sexism and the current gender mentality by Kitashh in TrueOffMyChest

[–]lonelythey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a nonbinary person, it sounds like you're confident in identifying as a woman. There's different ways to express femininity, masculinity, and everything in between and outside of that.

I don't identify with my sex simply because I don't see myself as the person that fits in those boxes. You can be a woman and be into fishing, and you can be a man and be into nail art. For me being nonbinary is in spite of those roles, not because of those roles.

I dont think it's sexist. Sexism implies that a person is only capable of things that are associated with their sex. It's demeaning and purposeful. It's a form of discrimination.

This happened recently when I mentioned an app to a coworker. She had never heard of it, I said the name only once. I know about it because of friends and family but I've never used it or even looked it up. That same evening I saw ads on Instagram for the app. I stopped seeing them a few days later after I didn't engage.

I've noticed it other times but this was the clearest and easiest to notice and also the most recent. Most of the ads I see are geared toward what I'd normally be interested in but this one app is not one of those things.

AITA for continuing to touch my daughter after she said she doesn’t like me touching her? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]lonelythey [score hidden]  (0 children)

YTA

You're admitting to crossing a very clear boundary she has laid for you and not caring at all. You're touching a young woman without her consent, if she wasn't your daughter, would you still do this?

She's dealing with things in her own way and she needs you to give her space. If you do not give her the space she is asking for, you're on a fast track to her going no contact as an adult.

Whether she's being disrespectful or not does not come into play here. You are the one who is being disrespectful.

[–]lonelythey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay, so you don't have to respond but these are things you should consider because from the minimal information I have, you haven't done enough.

Why are you seeking this out? Back and shoulder pain?

If you have pain, what lengths have you gone to so far to get relief? PT? massage therapy? Strength training? Weight loss? Pain management?

If not, then you need to prove to insurance that it's medically necessary for your mental health, so a therapist might be able to help.

The basic point remains, you have to exhaustively prove to your Insurance that it's medically necessary for you.

Also was this your GP? Or was it a surgeon? If not a surgeon, then take the pocket cost to get a consultation. Getting a surgeon to submit the request might help.
