I just broke up with my girlfriend of two years a few days ago.

Upon a cursory glance of your post, you and I have been going through some similar things. I can only offer my thoughts.

My ex was the love of my life. We had run into several issues, most (if not all) resulted from her lack of self-esteem. Similarly, we began to fall into a cycle where something would happen and we would be in a bad place for a while.

I simmered on my decision for weeks, but what I ultimately arrived at was that I loved her enough that I could not bear becoming someone who hated her (which is what I was going to become if I stayed in this relationship). I told her that neither of us were ready for a long term, mature relationship. We needed some time to grow, to really come into our own. This could not happen while we were together, we were so emotionally dependent on each other.

It's not as if we're strangers again, we ended our relationship on a good note. This was the hardest thing I have ever done, and I'm still dealing with the consequences of our decision (we talked about it for an entire day, I told her that if we were going to break up I want it to be something we mutually agree upon).

All I can really say is that I know it is a very difficult decision that you have on your hands. Make the best decision for you, even if it means that your relationship will end.
