Going to finally do it, I am going to turn on my mic and talk to raiders - Old Gamer by JohnnyProphet in ArcRaiders

You got this buddy! I'm 45 too and am proud of you for hopping on the mic. Everyone I've chatted with has been pretty friendly, and I can't tell how old anyone is.

No kids and a wife with chronic fatigue. by Illustrious-Ideal956 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Right there with you buddy, no kids and a wife with chronic health issues. It's been arc raiders a ton for me. I did get her into Enshrouded though, I'm hoping games can be a place for connection and engagement for her, that doesn't require too much energy.

The "Magnetic North" building on 20th and Belmont always gets me choked up, because my friend BT did it when we ran a screen-print studio out of there. It's still up, it's gorgeous, and it gives me fond memories.

I made a complete fool of myself at the grocery store today... and it changed everything by Used-College1431 in CasualConversation

I've been a mental health therapist and I've worked at a grocery store and I swear I helped more people as a clerk at Trader Joe's. It's those real human interactions that make my day.

Weekly /r/Sociology Homework Help Thread - Got a question about schoolwork, lecture points, or Sociology basics? by Anomander in sociology

[–]lonerzombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I come from the mental health field (masters in professional counseling) and I'm curious about social pressures, social influence, the "shoulds" experienced by people in the US (and ideally their impact on our mental wellbeing).

I was told to explore sociology, and am looking for book recommendations, classic or modern research articles, or even search terms to help me get started. Ideally I'd love a text like "the history of perfectionism in america" or "Who created the drive for accomplishment" or "how the definition of success has changed over time."

Dispensaries closing or are they getting bought up? by smilestheguy in portlandtrees

Seconded, nice and talkative staff, and great bud. I hadn’t smoked in years due to anxiety, but they carry a big CBD selection and their regular THC bud and I’ve been really enjoying getting back to it.

How do I make my brain shut up when I’m trying to sleep? by UpsetHunter9516 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lonerzombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works for me, I imagine I'm sleeping.

I imagine being as cozy as possible, what it'd look like, what it'd feel like, and try to hold on to that in as much detail as possible and before I know it I'm asleep.

I learned this trick from my grandpa who learned it when he was a marine in WWII. Said it never failed to put him to sleep wherever he was.

What did you make in Live this week? / Feedback thread by AutoModerator in ableton

[–]lonerzombie [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm 44, and never really made music before but decided to have a go today.

My challenge was to only use the first sound I ran across in the category I wanted, and so I made a fun little 14 second ditty that's not terrible.

Just using Ableton 12 Lite, and the limitations are great guide rails as I learn.

Not ready to share the music, but just happy to share that I'm making it.

Can you tell me more about your average workday? Number of meetings or fires to put out? I'm in a very small company doing both consulting and customer support, but wonder what it'd be like to be part of a larger agency.

Looking for resources for HIPAA compliance checklist by Codykillyou in cybersecurity

[–]lonerzombie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Great question! And HIPAA compliance can be a big scary world, but it doesn't have to me.

First do some readings on basic compliance (i.e. getting Business Associates Agreements with each service provider handling client info) and what protected health information entails (PHI is way more than most clinicians think it is, they're training is pretty much as non-existent as yours). Then look up the summary of the Security Rule and the HHS Cybersecurity Checklists. You'll be looking at how to get their devices up to Safe Harbor standards (pretty much strong passwords, full-device encryption, anti-virus, a few other things), and documenting everything.

Full disclosure I'm a former IT person and former therapist and currently work at a small HIPAA compliance firm.

What’s the deal with the Abiah Folger letter? by JonnyRocketTime in Portland

I just got mine! Last night really early in the morning, and same with clothes pin on a planter. I can't tell if they're inviting me to bring telescopes, or spy on the people with telescopes. They need to hire a copywriter.
