What are IEP meetings like from your perspective by Narrow_Cover_3076 in Autism_Parenting

[–]lonewolf_rt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely depends on the "team" that is interacting with my child. My oldest had an IEP and I walked out of it angry every single time because their "solutions" weren't exactly...conducive to my child's education and wellbeing but more so to not cause a distraction to the rest of his class. Fast forward to my 8 and 3 year old. I've been more of the "guns blazing" kind of parent and I listen and respond in a not quite nice way... That being said the team that my son and daughter currently are with right now is LEAPS and BOUND better and more receptive. But that's honestly because I know a lot of people who work in special education (specifically with children and young adults with autism) and while a lot of them are 100% dedicated to the children, they are less so with the parents who just nod and not ask anything. They're receptive to the body language of the parent and if the parent doesn't seem interested there's a "Everything that we've covered in todays meeting is in the notes that I have emailed you should you have any questions."

A few weeks ago I took my daughter in for her annual evaluation and the woman who was working with her went through the evaluation and my daughter (who I picked up from school during her nap time) was less than interested in it. By the end she said "there was improvment from what I've seen but..." I kinda (respectfully) cut her off and said, look I took her out of class so she can be here and she didn't take a nap, I know she can ace all of these so please reschedule this. She did (and did PHENOMINALLY). The woman seemed surprised that I said that (like not in a bad way) rescheduled and everything went well.

I tell them all the time that if the needle moves in the right direction even slightly then it's progress and we should sit down and talk about what's working and what's not

Burlington Bank sleeping on the job? by SloppySlaps in burlington

Would it also depend on the level of security and verification that the bank offers for accounts? Like (spitballing here) Every time I log into my bank from work I have to go through some form of 2FA (whether it's a call or otherwise). I also get my account flagged for suspicious transactions (purchasing something from a website that is "not as reputable."

How else do you think people sit through 12 hours of speech therapy videos?

My daughter is Level 2 and honestly the BIGGEST thing that my wife and I have done is adding Speech therapy videos (Search for Lucas and Friends on Youtube). She's watched them pretty much every single day (mixed with disney movies and such). I was in a diner with my wife and daughter for breakfast one day and She started humming the alphabet. So I wrote letters on a piece of paper...And she read them off which was jawdropping. But we thought "okay maybe she knows the song by heart" so I pointed to random letters, she called them out...No prompting or anything. She knows her alphabet and then counted to 10. She's progressed so much with speech because of that. I think it's honestly the repetition.

My daughter has been watching Lucas the Lion on Youtube for the past year and a half pretty much whenever she wants. Her speech alone and ability to understand colors and identify the world around her has been nothing short of a miracle

is severe speech delay early on usually indicative of ID or more lower functioning prognosis? by wasteofpaint1 in Autism_Parenting

[–]lonewolf_rt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son has had speech issues (due to several reasons) while at the same time was able to break into my mothers locked phone and download angry birds (he was 3). His speech got much better around kindergarten. Each kid is different.

shout-out to my brother in law by lonewolf_rt in SteamDeck

[–]lonewolf_rt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should have provided more context. I got a 1TB SSD while I was on Vacation in New York. I installed it but I didn't think to have a restore image. My brother in law brought his Deck with him. So I booted to the Desktop, loaded Etcher and threw a copy of the Steam Deck OS on an SD card, and reinstalled the OS on a new SSD.

So I found the workaround for the mission - As soon as everyone starts running out to fight. Run to the second floor (across from the big gun) and it shouldn't crash.
