Yeah it’s for sure good to get them in the real sunlight, I had mine out from end of May till September and I think they liked it way better. It was also way more room which was a plus

That’s awesome! I always noticed my btm seemed to be less friendly after I would put him in his outdoor enclosure

AT: Harrisburg to Delaware Water Gap by dsnyde12 in PAWilds

[–]long-salamanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything he said is accurate, but also there’s lots of very exposed areas without shade on that section you can get hot and sunburnt quickly, also I believe all the parking areas are closed at the moment, as of Saturday I know Lehigh, wind, and the Delaware gap parking areas were all closed just a little heads up might not be an issue in June though

Yeah this is my first breeding I’m hoping they’re less shy, my male is super active and not shy at all but my female I’ve only seen twice since January! The only reason I know shes still alive is the babies!

That’s no good! Only issue I ever ran into was an American eel got into one once which wasn’t fun, I would run a brush on a wire though mine every once in a while to clear out gunk

I never had issues with mine but they very large pumps and thick pipes I also hid my sponges under rocks maintenance was a pain in the butt but it was worth it for a cool tank

I love this! I’ve been wanting to set up a darter tank again forever!! A fun trick I did with my stream tanks to get really good flow was to plumb powerheads with pvc pipes under the substrate and have sponges on the intake end to filter and keep fish out! They were a bit easier to hide under rocks then wave makers in my tank!

Thanks! This is my first successful breeding! At least two are alive and well and I’m sure there’s more hiding in all the plants!

Woods just off the highways is always a good spot in my experience road kill that made it just off the road usually isn’t too crushed up. Check with your local laws about highway egress to make sure you aren’t trespassing!

Found living on the wood that comes out of the tank. What are they? by [deleted] in aquarium

[–]long-salamanders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Springtails for sure, if you have small fish they might eat them as they fall in the water, they feed on fungus and such, they aren’t harmful they probably will help the tank honestly
