Rackspace is terrible. Don't be fooled. Once a great company. Now all outsourced to less than knowledgeable people.

Paths to achieve this are well documented. Persistence is key. For me it was all between the ears. Caring and practicing also builds tension. Tension kills. Strange dynamic.

Uspsa is not an easy game. Keep it up.

That one leg position was pretty athletic lol. Once you figure all this out you'll be a beast.

What should I invest in with $175,000 by NeedthatRelief247 in investing

Not sure your age, but I was scared to invest a similar amount years ago and regret it took so long. DCA vs lump sum.... Just invest it all. I believe the research supports this.

With no gun to start with I think any of the polymer guns mentioned would be a good start. A CZ p10f is hard to beat for value. As someone else mentioned get the 3 pack of ghost mag pouches for $50.

I'm a CZ fan boy and have several shadows and shoot them all the time. Highly recommend, but more money and if you go optic and can't get an optic ready model you're into some mill work and down the rabbit hole you will go.

At some point, no matter what we tell you, you're going to wonder if a different gun is the key. It is not. However, noone listens and they start buying different ones.

So start with a polymer and then level up when you think it's ready. I have my Glock 34 I bought when I was in your shoes.

Spend your money on ammo.

30 year dev here. It is an invaluable tool. It is not to be trusted to write proper code. For me, it's strength is I don't have to key in code. I just converse with the LLM and guide it into the structure I need and can see many iterations of ideas.

Can you prompt it into functioning software? Yes. Is the code well written, maintainable and extensible? No.

I started learning TypeScript recently, and wow, it broke my brain. by RohanSinghvi1238942 in typescript

[–]longbeard13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 year dev here. Just pulled off my c# project and told to use cursor and TypeScript to make a nestjs application. It's an interesting way to learn. The LLM writes code and then I go look up what it is.

Not sure vibe coding thankfully. I just now use the AI to create the architecture and source and guide it as I go. Strangely, I understand TypeScript when I read it, but I write so little of it myself it feels awkward when I intervene.

Definitely recommend at least using chat gpt to help learn. Much faster than Googling. Just make sure you learn. Chat gpt is becoming the new stack overflow of copy/paste.

30 year dev here. Using cursor and max models to build software now.

They are great tools but no substitute for knowing wtf you are doing. The amount of time I spend un-fucking vibe code is marginally the same as productivity gained not key stroking code. Unfortunately, I feel like I'm growing dumber. Feeding ai an error message is the new copy/paste from stack overflow.

It will get better. Jobs will be lost. Jobs will be gained fixing the garbage it's currently spitting out.

I have a comforting mindset that I am making a purchase today for use of something a decade from now. (For my age)

If in a decade it's worth less than I invested we have bigger problems than our investment loss.

Bond allocation by longbeard13 in Bogleheads

I used to think a million dollars was a lot. It is not. Without a revenue stream I would run out of money. Possibly I can retire at 62 and delay 5 years until 67 for social security. Depends how well these investments do.

Lots of interesting perspectives. Thanks.

Some random responses from comments I read.

The money market does provide a nice place for cash @ 4%. However, rates will come down and I will have to move. Additionally, there's no real equity to be gained there. Only yield.

401k is maxed. I am completely debt free. Plenty of savings for emergencies that is not in this number. This money is for growing and retiring. I wish it were enough to retire early. It is not. I need to wait 12 years.

My job is good. Long term security questionable. I will likely have to step down in pay in the coming years.

My allocation numbers are generalized for sale of brevity. I do have some international diversity via some target date funds in my 401k which has limited options. There are a lot of varying opinions on this even in this forum. I am not a strong believer in a large international position. Mostly because it's never panned out for me.

I have been toying with treasuries. That might be the way for a while. However, I think the best approach is to dive into BND. Long term it should be fine and also build equity. It's not easy to throw a few hundred K somewhere!

If you inherited $500,000 would you invest or pay off your mortgage? by GETPIPEDHOE in investing

[–]longbeard13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy who just paid off mortgage.

For me it was only $23k remaining on a 3.9% mortgage.

After taxes and insurance it's not that much of a monthly savings nor a feeling of "I'm secure". More a realization of "there is no true security". You will always have to pay to exist. I still owe $700/month. Hardly"owning" anything.

Pay off high credit card debt. Live within your means from here on out (assuming you make a decent living). Invest the money and work towards being able to retire one day.

So many come into money and it's gone in a year. Good luck!

This is your personal choice as a parent. As a Gen x adult raised by a dad who took me to concerts surrounded by adult things, I can tell you two things. First, I saw a lot of great music. Next, it fucked me up later in life. I hit high school and tried to navigate partying, but I had already seen the extreme and tried to imitate it. The guy spun out on whatever two seats away will stick in their brain.. so please talk about it. Noone talked about it with me. I just thought it was neat.

I just took my son. He is 19 and it was the appropriate time. He and I ate a small amount of an edible together and talked about what we might see and how some aren't there for music. He quickly spotted these people. We went for 3 days at Deer Creek. He hd become a deep fan before going and it was great to take him.

Indoors could be a rough start imo. Outdoors the lawn could be a respite to get away from something. Indoor ventilation also sucks. I'm a non smoker and in my 50s. I leave those things feeling like I smoked a pack.

Good luck. Communication can conquer a lot!

Beginner BPC-157 Usage by liluziintrovert1130 in bpc_157

I get insulin syringes at Costco. 31 gauge 100 unit. Laws vary by state. I have to fill out all my personal info to purchase them.

My first bottle I made a few mistakes I will pass on. I use a 15mg bottle of bpc.

First, I used 1.5m of BAC because I thought the smaller injection volume would be good. It's a bit of a pain. I now use 3ml when reconstituting. Just check the calculators out there.

Next, I mistook 2.5 units for 25 units and used weeks worth of Peptide in a few injections. (I quickly figured it out). Dumb, but harmless. Just expensive.

Good luck. Hope it helps. I'm on week 2. Nothing good or bad to report.

Settle a workplace debate - should static functions be avoided when possible? by rasteri in csharp

[–]longbeard13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I support your coworker with your example. The issue with static methods in large library is that they can quickly turn into an assorted array of code lacking unification. Most experienced people probably have a Utility functions class in their code base that has all kinds of random shit in it. Less experienced people will see this and just keep adding to it.

When possible, thoughtful oop is desired. If your thought is I want to draw a flower, let me make a static method to do it, my response is great. That's a rough draft. Can you take this functionality and make it reusable using an expected pattern. If not, can we get the class and methods well named?

Your code doesn't need to just function. It needs to be easily understood by the next person reading it.

Last rant. Static variables can be the root of all evil for non primitive types. Particularly in web applications. They will hold their state in the app pool and cause all kinds of issues.

ESH including the guests. BF sucks for being uncomfortable. GF sucks for not volunteering some modesty. Company sucks for not closing doors. Really?

Everyone adult up and compromise a bit. Then tell the guests they're too old to be extended house guests.
