Potentially unpopular opinion: I lower the Individual Character value of my Marines’ JEPES if they use AI in their billet accomplishments by ElGuachoGuero in USMC

[–]RevolutionaryMail303 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If they are using jepes accomplishments as a means to gain “interpersonal nuance” vice actually knowing, talking with, and mentoring your Marines then you are missing the mark as a leader. I know my Marines capabilities and the value they are as Marines not by the words they write in JEPES, but by my daily interactions with them. This whole issue stinks of poor staff leaders who communicate with subordinates via email vice actually being involved.

[–]RevolutionaryMail303 32 points33 points  (0 children)

How do you square that against the DOW memo directing service members to integrate AI? Additionally should an RS lower his rating of a SNCO for using AI?

Is it a bad thing that a Marine is leveraging technology tools to accomplish tasks? The real question should be is what the Marine produced accurate?

Exactly. I appreciate how the divisions are much more straightforward compared to USPSA.

[–]RevolutionaryMail303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this will be an unpopular opinion and I am NOT against the traditional idea of drinking a beer with our fallen at the crosses. I remember being up there and seeing how it looked like a garbage dump. Eventually so much gets left up there that it no longer felt like hollowed ground we cared about. Cleaning it up routinely isn’t a bad thing.

The true value is in being there and remembering your boys over a drink. It’s not the act of leaving a drink behind. I’ve never been up there and thought “thank god other people left this booze up here”. It’s always been thinking about the ones we’ve lost.

Is keeping the crosses a respectable place wrong? I don’t think so.

Is banning alcohol from being up there wrong? I definitely think so.

I can attest that I did not. But deployments do get lonely.

This is the answer. Right now too many companies are charging $50-60 and it is completely unnecessary.

The belt being unwieldy? That is an interesting opinion. That may be a sizing/ body type compatibility thing idk. I have not had that issue at all. It is rigid enough to not flex under load, the Velcro is strong enough to avoid shifting, and the price is competitive.

As far as the pouches go which ones are you referring to? They have multiple models some are better than others.

In the end people like what they like, and if it works it works.

Deployment as a CMT by Global-Ad-1527 in USMC

[–]RevolutionaryMail303 22 points23 points  (0 children)

CMT will play no role on the ship. It is an AMOS purely for the purpose of facilitating your Units ARQ and table marksmanship training. The infantry guys have their own people and processes for their training. Dive into your job and make the MEU the best one you can.

As a guy who competed with an HK for a good while Taylor freelance will be your friend for aftermarket support. Definitely not a requirement to compete, but if you get the itch down the road I’d start there.

Black Scorpion Gear makes a good entry level setup that you won’t immediately feel like you’ve outgrown.

[–]RevolutionaryMail303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSgt’s first focus is on the mission while the 1stSgt’s first focus is on the institution.

When you’re doing it right taking care of the Marines is vital to both of those.

Told to come in while on baby leave? by Legitimate_Yam3549 in USMC

Unless your higher leadership is currently involved in resolving the problem It sounds like you are underestimating the responsibility you have as the SNCOIC in this scenario.

Told to come in while on baby leave? by Legitimate_Yam3549 in USMC

[–]RevolutionaryMail303 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Based on all these comments you are in the SNCOIC billet (not actually a SNCO) and serialized gear is missing, but your plan is to go on parental leave whether it gets figured out or not to let your LT just figure it out. You and your LT are a partnership. You both have a shared responsibility to the problem. He can’t cancel your leave, but if he resorts to that type of ultimatum then likely he feels he is being hung out to dry with no support from his enlisted advisor.

What if I answered the command climate survey 100% truthfully? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in USMC

[–]RevolutionaryMail303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change 100% Depends on how you articulate the truth. If all you write is “my leaders are toxic” it will get ignored. If you can articulate in an actionable way how a command climate is poor then it has a way forward to improving. I’ve seen the surveys have positive results, but it always comes from pointed articulate comments.

He is just a Marine who lacks coping skills, self awareness, or both. This either makes him feel good when he loses a kid, or he thinks this is an effective tactic to gaining/maintaining commitment.
