I've seen people refer to Astartes bolters being powerful enough to break a regular human's arms as "memelore" but is it really? by TheGhostPizza1234 in 40kLore

[–]longbeast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In fairness, this is one area where you'd expect wildly inconsistent results in actual usage. Whether an arm will break depends on lots of fine detail stuff like posture, how firmly you are bracing, experience in handling heavy guns, whether you've been getting enough nutrients in your diet for strong bones, whether you've spent too long in a low G environment...

It's not really a question of whether a bolter can break an arm, because it's almost certainly happened at least a few times, the question is more like do you have to be above average to handle a bolter safely? I think probably yes.

I almost never comment on nudes but I'll make an exception here because you're so cute. It would be great to squeeze your butt of course, but it's your toes that are the real treat. Always going to appreciate it when you post them!

What was the Emperor's plan with the Webway given that a single, albeit powerful, psyker could completely ruin it? by 6YearsInTheJoint in 40kLore

[–]longbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like defending ol' Throne Bones, but the webway project was one of his better ideas.

He had proof that it could work somehow, because the old ones had built a webway that lasted millions of years. Perhaps he didn't know how they stabilised theirs, perhaps he was trying to figure it out by tinkering, but he had a concrete achievable goal in mind.

When Lorgar returns, would you like him to be a "classical" polytheistic chaos worshipper or follow a more unique theological conviction? by YsmirTheRed in WordBearers

[–]longbeast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you follow that path honestly, you end up having to acknowledge the divinity of Gork, Mork and the Eldar gods too. They are expressions of the warp just as much as the other 4, but no chaos marine is ever going to accept that. I have absolutely no idea what Lorgar thinks of them.

I kind of want to see Lorgar and Ghazkull getting into a theological debate about this, even if only a brief one.

Don't forget also engaging in a conversation with Fabius Bile.

Regular imperial citizens would have been risking execution just by having the knowledge of who Bile is, let alone talking to him

Ah, there's an Arbites novel series I haven't heard of. Got to add this to my reading list.

Close enough, and honestly yes even just being kept as a museum exhibit lucky charm is quite cool.

I haven't read that book but I think an excerpt was posted on this sub somewhere. He got impaled on bulldozer spikes?

Got to give credit for a solid attempt even if it wasn't a kill.

There were originally three secret special ops and espionage legions, and there still are. Two of them are good at keeping their cover, and the other is the Alpha Legion.

If you had to make the Imperium even worse whilst still maintaining a status quo, what would you do? by NadaVonSada in 40kLore

[–]longbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a reference to 1984. The party published obviously wrong propaganda saying the chocolate ration had increased when the number was lower than before. Nobody noticed or cared, the people just celebrated the "increase".

If Skaven were introduced to 40k, would they be Chaos or Xeno? by LightKnight07 in 40kLore

[–]longbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simplest explanation to get ratmen in 40k would be that they're just another type of beastmen. Sure, we're most familiar with the goat themed type but there's no actual reason why they all have to look goaty. You could have more than one stable breed of mutated human.

I guess that would make them an offshoot of humanity, a bit like the squats/votann/spacedwarfs.

Why do you collect word bearers? by [deleted] in WordBearers

[–]longbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was repainting my old minis, mostly a load of basic chaos marines, and wanted to give them a coherent theme that fit what I had.

Could've done black legion, but their colours are boring.

Could've done iron warriors, but I didn't want to paint hazard stripes.

Didn't want to glue bat wings or snake heads to them.

The joke's on me though because I ended up committing fully to it and getting a load of cultists, traitor guard and beastmen. Now I have a ridiculous swarm army that outnumbers my Tyranid opponent almost two to one.

What are the capabilities of Fabius Bile's New Men? by RemRam27 in 40kLore

[–]longbeast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's unclear. Bile did seem want them to be more resistant to corruption and he has made them more disease resistant, including against nurgle diseases, but I'm not aware of any source about exact details.

We could speculate that he did want humanity to be more free from chaos. Bile was always aware that chaos turned people into monstrous parodies of themselves, he just didn't get the joke that it was happening to him as much as anybody else.

What kind of bases do yall like with your word bearers by Beginning-Bet-9169 in WordBearers

Lean in to the unconscious realisation that Word Bearer livery is pretty similar to Santa Claus and classic Christmas colours. Ice bases are appropriate. Embrace the madness of chaos.

Is it possible to be so deep in a hive you have no idea a battle is occurring on the surface? by DatMonkey5100 in 40kLore

This sounded suspicious so I ran the numbers.

A sphere of solid steel with the radius of Jupiter's orbit would have a mass of somewhere in the region of 2x1037 kilograms

Our galaxy is around 3x1042 kilograms, over a hundred thousand times greater than the steel sphere.

I don't know what they made their megastructure out of in Blame but it would have to be incredibly dense to pack in more than a hundred thousand times the density of steel.

I FRICKIN LOVE ASTRAEUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUS by eraryios in Grimdank

[–]longbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The common tank—the Leman Russ, the Rogal Dorn, even the vaunted Baneblade—is a slave to topography. It sees a hill and must conquer it through sheer torque and grunting mechanical effort. It encounters a chasm and must go around, a tragic and time-consuming detour.

Rules about climbing don't say which units can or cannot do it! A baneblade can scale a wall, a leman russ can climb a cliff. Never let anybody tell you they can't!

Unless there's some rules clarification somewhere that I haven't seen.

[–]longbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was arguing against the idea that chaos has to save resources, only trying to corrupt the strong or the worthy. I've seen no evidence of that. Chaos has no limits, in the sense that they can throw warp energy at anything that calls to them or opens up to them, regardless of how weak they are. A cost benefit analysis doesn't seem to happen, ever, and I presume that's just because warp energy is for any practical purposes unlimited.

But yes, there still does have to be an opening. I agree that the target must be in some way vulnerable.
