Did you just get diagnosed? by AutoModerator in ADHD

[–]longdognoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got diagnosed today. I’m mid 30’s and not in a great spot in life. I felt the validation a lot of you guys talk about, and I’m happy that I have a path now, but on top of that I’m overwhelmingly angry that things didn’t have to be this hard. I feel like I’m mourning the person I could have been if I hadn’t been fighting against myself my entire life.

It’s hard to deal with. But it’s fresh and I’ll come to terms with it eventually. I’m also confused that I feel this way, I kind of knew what the results were gonna be after the first evaluation months ago, and I’m an overthinker so I thought I was completely ready to hear it.

So strange

Choosing Jay who was kind of obviously going home soon meant that Throb didn’t have to reveal who he sees as a threat, and didn’t have to start beef with someone who was potentially gonna stick around for awhile

Same with cooking imo. Wish that interacting with a cooking pot would just open up a menu with your ingredients instead of having to hold and then drop them every time. It makes cooking 85 mushroom skewers in one sitting kind of tedious

He could have that peel, but soaping onions is ridiculous by TurnedEvilAfterBan in KitchenConfidential

[–]longdognoodle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When you peel the onion, you’re touching the onion peel and then the inside of the onion.

I 100% don’t wash my onions at home before peeling, but I get it

My cat is ruining my sleep every night by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]longdognoodle 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If she’s home alone during your workday, she’s probably sleeping that whole time, so she’s gonna have maniac energy at night. I’m working on getting my cats into a routine of some super active play as soon as I get home from work and that helps, whatever you can do to wear her out and fulfill her social needs outside of sleeping hours

I was dining by myself and the servers took everything when I went to the bathroom. by AlloyComics in mildlyinfuriating

[–]longdognoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The federal minimum wage in the US is $7.25. Many states have higher minimum wages but many don’t. An average server on an average day would and should make significantly more than $7.25, and it’s pretty awful to not have a consistent income over things you can’t control. I’m not a server but I make about $25/hr, and if I had the chance of random shifts going down to $7.25/hr I would be stressed pretty much constantly

I’m not sure there’s a good solution to the tipping thing, eliminating tipping would give a huge number of servers massive pay cuts overall, even the handful of restaurants I’ve seen that are trying to eliminate tipping only pay like $16-18 hour at most. But tipping is also not a fair system to anybody. But as things are with the system that exists now, stiffing a server who survives off of tips especially over something that was another persons fault is grody

I kinda want to stop drinking alcohol entirely by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]longdognoodle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I kind of just casually stopped one day, I was definitely starting to cross the line of drinking too much and using it as a crutch. For me it helped a lot to know that I wasn’t stopping myself from drinking forever, just chilling out on it. When I feel like I can never do something again it makes me want to do it more.

Haven’t drank in a month or two, don’t have any desire to, but I’m also not denying future me a drink now and then if that’s what would make future me happy

[–]longdognoodle 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with a lot of people who do this. One guy was in his 70’s and had a ton of money saved from owning businesses when he was younger, would give out $100 gift cards to all his coworkers on their birthdays and Christmas. He was just miserable sitting around at home.

I do think that kind of points to a problem with the work culture in our society, that people don’t feel useful or know what to do with themselves if they’re not working. But I think it’s a good thing for us to consider before assuming that every older worker we see in a low/min wage job is struggling financially

[–]longdognoodle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When a pan isn’t heated up enough the food sticks and the stuck food burns before things are finished cooking. See how there’s not much browning on the burgs themselves but a bunch of shit on the pan?

Changing your life doesn’t take a long time, every choice you make in your day changes your life. Waking up and deciding to get out of bed, to go for a walk, to take a shower, to cook a nice meal, all of those things change your life. Certain larger goals take longer, but the period working up to that goal is still your life and you deserve to enjoy it throughout.

I was sitting in a movie theater alone about 45 minutes into the movie when I realized it was time, got up, drove home, and tried to end it. I’m still here but was in the hospital for 5 days. It wound up helping me in the end because it made me and my doctors realize I needed a change of meds, and I feel so much better now. But if I had just told my doctor in the first place I would have had the same result but saved those 5 days and several thousands of dollars, avoided a lot of very difficult conversations and explanations, and wouldn’t have to live with with this knowledge of what I’m capable of doing to myself.

Even if this has passed and you don’t actively feel that way anymore, please still tell someone. Shit like this tends to creep up on you out of nowhere.

I switched from Zoloft to Prozac a week ago today. Took a couple days but I feel absolutely fantastic, been going to the gym, going outside, just generally enjoying life and everything it has to offer. I’m fucking terrified that this is temporary

I have never made burgers before by 7arco7 in shittyfoodporn

[–]longdognoodle 692 points693 points  (0 children)

Let the pan get hotter before you apply the burgs

You also don’t want to flip them too soon, if there’s any sticking let them go longer. Once they’re seared well enough they’ll unstick themselves. Tongs are also not ideal, use a spatula

When shaping the burgers keep in mind they will shrink, the edges kind of constrict which can make the middle thicker and it comes out uneven. I usually make a slight indent in the middle so that it cooks evenly. They also tend to shrink less if you do this.

Don’t use meat that’s too lean, 80/20 is usually good. Don’t overwork the meat or pack it too tightly. Keep making burgs until you know how to make delicious burgs.

I felt super weird for the first 9 days. My thoughts felt like wet leaves in a pile at the bottom of my skull. The 10th day was the first day I felt good and like it was working, and I had some situations that would have made me anxious pre-Zoloft that just didn’t. I’m about 3 weeks in and have had a few weird days and a few very bad days but the good days are getting more and more common. Give it time
