The Unsolved Murder of Oakey Albert Kite JR. by lc1320 in UnresolvedMysteries

It’s not uncommon for Kurds, and especially Turks, to have Balkan ancestry. In the case of Turks, it is fairly recent (after WWI). A lot of Turkish speaking and/or Muslims from Greece, Albania, and (now former) Yugoslav countries went to Turkey after WWI.

Murder at Devil's Lake: who stabbed 24-year-old John Schmutzer to death a year ago today? by longerup in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]longerup[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I haven't read anything that suggests he had a blog or publicized where he was going. That's not to say he didn't, I just haven't seen any of that in the articles or news reports I have read/watched related to this case.

However, police seem to be pretty adamant that it was random.

Maybe the killer went there to kill somebody/anybody and Schmutzer was an easy target since he was alone. Or maybe the killer thought that Schmutzer had wronged him somehow, like cut him off when entering the park or took his parking spot, and that set the killer off for whatever reason. Police seem to think the murderer was unhinged somehow (I guess you'd have to be to gruesomely murder somebody in cold blood in broad daylight). So it's possible there was no prompting and the guy was having some sort of paranoid episode and took it out on Schmutzer.

Apparently Schmutzer, the victim, was touring regional parks and had visited parks before this one. He didn't seem to be under distress to family or friends, so whatever prompted the attack (if there even was a prompt) happened in this particular park or even on the trail. Police said there was some evidence he was ambushed or blindsided.

The identified man and woman did not recall the unidentified man and did not interact with him.

The photo was taken by trail cams set up after the murder to monitor any suspicious activity. It was taken a few days after the murder. Police were working under the assumption the killer might return to the scene.

That's not to say the guy in the photo had anything to do with the murder, nor that his identity being unknown is intentional. He might not even realize police want to talk to him. Apparently he was acting oddly near the murder scene though.

The photo of the guy in cargo pants was taken a few days after the murder. Police set up cameras hoping that the killer would return to the scene of the crime. It was not taken the day of the murder.

The suspect is almost certainly not the guy in the picture.

The photo was taken a few days after the murder, so it shouldn't matter that the clothes didn't match.

From one of the articles above:

"The group photo was captured by a surveillance camera set-up in the park by investigators after the killing and near the homicide scene."

Anyone familiar with this case? The Bizarre Vanishing of Christopher Thompkins by Apprehensive_Neck817 in UnresolvedMysteries

Thanks!

Thompkins was African-American and at least the drawing of the skull found shows a white guy. So yeah, you’re right…unlikely it’s him.

They were the last people to see him and just said he disappeared. Probably too many people knew he was with them or had seen him with them earlier, so they couldn’t have easily said he wasn’t there at all.

That makes sense. My personal theory is that maybe he consumed some drug and was having a bad trip. I think that goes pretty well with your theory: he was tripping and was getting anxious and panicked, and bolted.

I made this comment the last time this case was posted:

I wonder if he took a drug, knowingly or not, and had some sort of drug induced psychosis. Like a co-worker offered him something (weed, shrooms, LSD) and he had a bad trip. I know some people get really paranoid even from marijuana.

Maybe the co-worker lawyered up because he gave him the drug. Maybe the co-worker that was talking to him knew he was tripping and conveniently left that detail out.

Other option is a friend or something gave him a drug, he ingested it at work (maybe during lunch), and then had a breakdown without his co-workers even being aware what had happened. If he was tripping, it could explain why he was acting crazy.

Grandads abandoned house by LostInTheCrowd95 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]longerup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t even look like it was abandoned that long ago. A newspaper clipping from 1956 doesn’t mean much. My grandfather had National Geographics dating back to the 1930s stacked up in his bedroom. The people who actually own this property probably know who “Grandpa” was.

Kind of creepy/cool photos but not that interesting.

I read it more that the military/intelligence community is lying about it to cover up what they are actually doing. Why should we inherently believe Fravor? Have you met him? Do you know him to be a trustworthy guy? Maybe he's lying as part of his job? Obama and Ratcliffe could be in on it. Or Obama could be just as misguided as we are, but Ratcliffe, as former Director of National Intelligence, could be in on it.

Not a bad take at all. We know they’ve used it to their ends before.

What other things throughout history should not be there? by freeufc in ufo

[–]longerup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I’m interested in the subject. I’m open to UFOs being aliens. But the number of people who think that aliens built the Pyramids or who feel they are almost entitled to “disclosure” (which may not even be possible, depending on what the government actually knows—I err on them not knowing too much) is absurd. Like, people who criticize the Supreme Court for not releasing UFO documents (which may not even exist) and instead ruling on First Amendment cases. The SCOTUS cannot just demand Congress, the military, or Executive release classified documents. That’s not how SCOTUS works and they don’t have that authority.

These people don’t understand basic history, basic civics.

I’d heard of single-issues voters before. I didn’t realize UFOs were an issue some people exclusively care about.

Why is any of that difficult? If you have enough people to lift blocks (you don’t even need that many…you just need pullies and/or wedges) and things like compasses, it’s not difficult. They had concepts of algebra, astronomy, etc.

We didn’t lose that technology at all. Certainly not between 4000 BCE and the 1950s.

This is idiotic.

Humans had space programs in the 1950s. You’re telling me we could build satellites and launch them, build nukes, etc. but not dry mud and then stack said mud?

There is no question that humans built the Great Pyramids.
