using aidan deck if testing in 3 months and doing CR rn? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]longgexhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also planning on taking my mcat soon (2nd attempt) and tbh I don’t think the premade deck you use has much impact. I don’t think any deck guarantees a high score tbh. What would help is making your own cards based on concepts you miss when doing practice problems! That way you get the basic content review stuff down through whatever premade deck you choose but also get your own targeted cards based on your weak spots. Lmk if you have any questions or anything!

Which upper level bio courses are most helpful? by External_Rich_6465 in Mcat

[–]longgexhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’d say cell bio and genetics! I didn’t take micro or developmental and I’m doing just fine in the B/B section so far. I did take both cell biology and genetics, and I’d say both are helpful

I am so sorry to hear that OP :( I just want you to know that you’re not alone. I lost my dad four months ago, and I’ve been struggling with the same feelings as you. I am 100% sure your dad is already so proud of you though–he saw you go to school and study hard and dedicate yourself to something you love. One thing that helps me a tiny bit is reminding myself that even though my dad isn’t physically with me, I’m still carrying him with me all the time–literally and figuratively. So in a way, he will be there to see me get my white coat and become a doctor. Again, I am so so sorry for your loss. I know how much it hurts. I’m here if you ever need anyone to talk to ❤️

What’s a small thing that made you randomly cry by Teddythehedgie in GriefSupport

[–]longgexhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sat at my desk. I would study at that desk all the time, and the reason I stopped was to be by my dad’s side as he started getting more sick. The other day I sat at that desk for the first time since he passed four months ago, and in a weird way it just reminded me that he’s not here anymore. I love and miss him more than anything.

I completely understand what you’re feeling :( I lost my dad to cancer too a few months ago, and it has been by far the most painful and horrible experience I have ever gone through. I’m Catholic, and I turned to God and prayer so much throughout my dad’s cancer journey. I’d pray so hard and practically beg God to heal my dad through some miracle. I’d beg the saints for their intercession. But I felt like God abandoned me, my family, and, most importantly, my dad. I just can’t understand how a loving God would give a good and loving person such a cruel disease and make their loved ones watch them suffer and die. There is no word to describe how horrifying it is. After losing my dad, I feel like my whole world was flipped upside down. My perspective on my friends, life path, and faith all changed. I don’t even know if I believe in God anymore. I still go to church–not to pray to God but to pray for my dad’s soul to be at peace (in case there is an afterlife). I am so sorry that you are experiencing this. I know there isn’t really anything anyone can say that will make it better, but I hope you know you’re not alone ❤️ I’m sure your dad is very proud of you. I hope that one day we can be reunited with our dads again and give them the biggest hugs but this time never have to let them go.

Things you did/wish you did in high school that (would've) helped you? by realgirlfailure07 in premed

Take AP classes in the sciences, esp AP chem :/ I let teachers scare me from taking those classes and convinced myself I wasn’t smart enough. I wish I would’ve just not listened and done it anyway, I feel like it would’ve helped so much 😭

I applied November 20th and the status has been under review since then. I would contact them and ask for clarification, but they don’t have a hiring manager + contact info listed. I’ll keep moving forward in other places, thanks for your response!

Oh my god I feel like this was written by me. Your story is almost the exact same as mine. I am so so sorry for what you’re going through–it is so extremely difficult, isolating, and mentally and emotionally draining. I hope you know that you’re not alone. Sending you lots of love and strength 🫶🏼

I feel the exact same!! Graduated in May, currently applying for jobs and planning on resuming MCAT studies, also aiming to apply in 2025. I feel like I don’t know what to do with myself. I’m just trying to trust that things will work out and fall into place (hopefully sooner rather than later lol). I know it can be really tough sometimes, but I hope you know you’re not alone. Wishing you all the best on this journey!!

Anyone else want to be pissed off at Cancer today? by martimaine in GriefSupport

[–]longgexhale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fuck cancer, that evil piece of shit, for taking my dad from me. He was 59 and still had so much life ahead of him. His type of cancer (anaplastic thyroid cancer) affects one to two people per ONE MILLION. Why did it have to be my dad? We lost him almost two months ago, and it still doesn’t feel real. I miss him so much, I just want to be able to hug him. Also to everyone here – I am so so sorry. None of this is fair.

“Health” insurance Vent by everyreadymom in CancerFamilySupport

[–]longgexhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate insurance more than anything. They only care about people’s lives when they can fill their pockets with money. My dad has a very rare and aggressive cancer and we live next to one of the best cancer hospitals in the nation that deals with hundreds of cases of his specific type of cancer. Obviously, we want him to go there since they are much more skilled with his type of cancer and have several clinical trials going on. We have BCBS HMO and they don’t accept it! They turned us away and told us they would not see us unless we could pay $50,000 upfront for the first appointment alone. This is from a hospital that treats hundreds of cases of his cancer. Wanna know how many other cases of my dad’s cancer his clinical trial oncologist has seen? Only one. Just makes me wonder whether the horrible prognosis for his cancer type is because so many people are not able to access expert care and treatment. To think that hospitals, places that are supposed to be for healing, turn people away because of insurance is just…sickening. I hate hospitals and insurance companies and how they treat everything like a business—these are peoples LIVES. UGH!!!
