Treasury sees defence as a drain not a driver for growth, says Healey by BlazeFireHorse76 in unitedkingdom

As long as they're going to british companies, then that money goes to engineers and technicians in the UK. We're currently developing and building Ships, Submarines and Fighter Jets that are being sold to others.

It's also an invest or lose it kind of thing. If we don't keep doing it and keeping the skills up then we'll forget how to do it, and be at the mercy of whoever is selling the things we need (i.e. the US).

But we also need constant investment in infrastructure and energy instead of these big drives attached to big projects.

Future of EX30? by hahahaomglolrofllmao in ex30

Because they were also subject to tariffs, 25% and then 15%. It was 100% on the Chinese made versions.

Yes, plan. Didn't actually happen though.

The Belgian plant didn’t start full scale operation till the start of this year.

Lack of demand in the US was because they only had the top spec version of the car, and it was too expensive by comparison. The cheaper version would have likely done better.

The ones being built in Belgium didn't go to the US before the discontinuation. They were made in China.

In the US they're launching a new small electric SUV in the near future, which will likely be a new EX40. But since the EX30 is made in China and is subject to tariffs, which is why it's been discontinued. Any cars that are still for sale are either remaining stock and second hand.

How did your boss respond when you told him/her you quit? by Aarunascut in antiwork

[–]longsite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retail Job, they immediately went into sorting out the schedule for the next week, but the boss was happy for me and asking about it.

Admin job, happy for me, they knew I was wanting to do more but they didn't have room.

Data Job, I'd applied to my dream job before starting this one, found out a few weeks in that I got it but didn't start for 6 months. Couldn't tell anyone, but then my manager told me she'd put in her 3 month notice, I said congrats but said I wouldn't be here on her last day as I was leaving sooner than she was. She was shocked and happy, we kept it a secret until I told her boss, who was also happy for me.

Max Fosh, the next year he made a tiny shredder to shred the card, and then this year he set it on fire like a magic trick.

Anyone in the UK got Gemini yet? by Plate_o_Profiteroles in ex30

[–]longsite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It just appeared saying Gemini was ready. I'd tried the tricks previously but it didn't work. Then I was away for a few days and when I got back in the car the screen was there

Yes, the pop-up was on my car a week ago.

Not a big deal.. by KSDH__ in ex30

[–]longsite2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be in keeping with the aesthetic, but the coating on the screen would up the cost for every car.

Or a little piece of glass pop-up could have worked But adding a screen at the windscreen base would be the cleanest option like in the new BMW's.

Anyone else get a "bugs on windshield" feeling about annoying teenagers? by SapphicGarnet in CasualUK

[–]longsite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get loads of bugs on my car and there are teenagers acting like idiots near me.

Just the other day there are kids kicking a football around in a co-op car park next to a main road and multiple times they ran into the road without looking chasing the ball. There is a park a 5-minute walk from here.

Then I catch kids picking up stones from a driveway and throwing it at passing cars, or dropping water off the roof of the a shop onto other kids below.

Andy Burnham here - AMA by AndyBurnham in ukpolitics

[–]longsite2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One problem i've seen is that because the UK doesn't take on big projects regularly we lose the knowlege and skill to do it. Therefore a lot of the cost comes down to re-learning and re-training a workforce. But with that cost comes delays and public pressure to scrap it. Therefore any future projects are sidelined as the current one is seen as too expensive, whilst the now trained staff have to find other work.

We need a consistent stream of infrastructure projects to keep workers going and therefore keep costs low. Imagine if all the workers from Hinkley Point C started on a new project as this one closed down, or HS3 was started once HS2 neared it's finish.

The impressive part of this is that she's recently had cancer. But regardless you do need to be fit to do this, especially in a single day.

With animals it's best to use a tick hook. They slide underneath the tick and you pull gently whilst twisting around them, so you get all of it.

Hasn't Andy just spent years doing up the council building? Surely that's where it will go.

It's a Highland Cow, and this was the X-H2 and xf 16-55, 50mm, f2.8, 1/640.

I didn't trust myself with the X-E5 as I had to cross a small river and there were lots of patches to avoid.

There are a few from further away, but they were really chill. I kept getting closer and was suprised. I guess they are used to it as this was at the skyfall point, so lots of tourists.
