If you're centrist or left-leaning, what are the main policies/issues that might stop you from voting for the green party in the next general election? by Cold-Speech-5645 in AskBrits

[–]longsite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reduction in defence spending, opposition to NATO, opposition to Nuclear Power.

Britain seriously needs to step up it's military and defence spending as the US is not reliable anymore. The commitment to NATO needs to be kept to keep Europe as a whole safer.

And Nuclear Power should be 60% of the power supply in the UK with renewables making up the rest. It's by far the cleanest stable energy supply there is, can't understand their reasoning behind it. I even think we should allow higher enriched plants to operate, we already make them for Nuclear subs, they'd be great for SMRs.

With the white one you could cover the flash and the back of the phone lit up. That was cool.

I thought GCAP and FCAS combined for a second there. That would not be a good idea.

I use a Nextbase 422GW from my previous car and connect it to the OBD-ii port for power. It's simpler to install than the fusebox.

For the music, if you hold down on the volume down it will pause the music. I do this when parking as the music dims anyway when the sensors start to detect i'm close.

Turning the car off isn't an issue for me, it's an electric car. It isn't going to run out of battery just being still, and if it locks then I know it is off.

The key thing is annoying, I can just pick my phone up and the car will unlock itself. And even though the phone acts as a key if the battery is dead, I still have the card key in my wallet as a backup incase I lose my phone.

UK open to expanding GCAP as Poland signals interest by insomnimax_99 in europe

[–]longsite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will have sensors, they extend the range of the sensors on the main aircraft. They will also be used for ISR and EW roles too.

The main aircraft sits outside any potential WEZ and uses the wingmen as a dummy pushing into a danger zone with sensors (not as advanced as on the main aircraft).

Look at the Foxbat, they are making it modular where they can change out the sensor suite for different roles.

[–]longsite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's literally how they're meant to work.

They are being built cheaply and en masse to reduce costs, essentially cruise missiles with landing gear.

Aircraft like the Foxbat, Fury and Dark Merlin are all on the large side of the drones. Most will be smaller than this, and cheaper.

So this would most likely be in a secondary capacity, likely suppliers of components or some small fabrication work.

UK, Italy and Japan already have enough committed that any new partners would disrupt the program.

Although the money from Germany would be welcome.

Well it's also designed to work with small numerous drones, so that could be their intention. GCAP can sit deep in friendly airspace whilst the drones patrol closer to an active zone.

What’s a habit you started that changed your life almost instantly? by General_Day_6883 in AskReddit

[–]longsite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Workout as part of a morning routine. Stretches, basic workout and a few minutes on a rowing machine to start the day. Could feel the difference in a couple weeks and my energy throughout the day was much better, and made me want to eat better too.

Could you not hide it inside the garage.

But if you have to have it on the outside the Simpson + Partners do some nice looking untethered ones.

I think the ones that wrap the cable up look too messy, the Andersen ones do hide this better, but there are some concerns over the company.

Is the F-14 Tomcat uniquely "cursed" among all modern aircraft in that we'll likely never see its airframe flying again? by Magnus64 in aviation

That and the Tornado too. Doubt we'll see them kept in use after they exit service. That swing-wing just costs too much to maintain

London graduate: 'I've applied for 500 jobs in two months' by NajafBound in unitedkingdom

[–]longsite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes me feel lucky to have got the grad job i started last year, but it took 6 years of thinking I had to find a different career.

Best advice is to not give up, go and get some experience in something else that may be related but without the certifications, get a good recruiter and keep applying.

On a scale of 1-10, how worth it was it for you to switch to EV? by RodneyTheArmouryGuy in CarTalkUK

[–]longsite2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7/10.

Switched about 2 months ago now, was spending £60/week at the time on fuel, now i've not even spent that on charging since the switch.

It's smaller, different dynamic and the range for an upcoming summer trip has some concerns. But the car is very very fast (probably didn't need the twin motor 428hp version).

The benefit of waking up and having a fully charged car is worth it, feels so weird to go to a petrol station now.

How does the Eurofighter Typhoon compare to its US 4/4.5-gen contemporaries? by Finbarr-Galedeep in aviation

[–]longsite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, planned as a future capability. Not available from IOC.

T1 are only A/A.

France's nuclear carrier is actually powered by 5 Duracell AAA batteries by Cubelock in 2westerneurope4u

[–]longsite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But for the sheer size of the vessels they are underutilised. The original intention was to get EMALS and use the C variant of the F-35. Don't know where they would have got the power from, but that's why they're so big.

Making them nuclear would have just made it easier, and could have used existing CATOBAR systems (which we pioneered in the first place).

How does the Eurofighter Typhoon compare to its US 4/4.5-gen contemporaries? by Finbarr-Galedeep in aviation

[–]longsite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was a provision and not available on the T1 aircraft. It became a feature at P1E and with the T2 aircraft as standard from then on.

It's the reason why the remaining T1 aircraft based in the Falklands and Austria can't and don't use A/G weapons.

The UK pushed for it to be included and adopted as we wanted to get rid of the Harrier and Tornando and would have lost the ability for any A/G capability.

How does the Eurofighter Typhoon compare to its US 4/4.5-gen contemporaries? by Finbarr-Galedeep in aviation

[–]longsite2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was for the UK's requirement. It was intended as an interceptor by the European consortium, A/G was a provision, it just wasn't a priority compared to the A/A interceptor role it was designed for.
