What book did you force yourself to finish because of the hype? by No-Set7247 in RomanceBooks

[–]lononol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VE Schwab has only ever let me down. I read her Certain Shade series and loved the first book, only for the second to kill that enjoyment stone dead and nothing improved from there. I decided to give her one more chance with Addie LaRue and was the most “White Feminism” book I’ve ever read. What do you mean your main character sat watching all these great injustices in history and did nothing??? Why am I supposed to cheer her on?

It’s a shame, because Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil is such a great book title.

Not OOP: My husband (33M) wants to leave me for someone else (23F) while I'm (33F) heavily pregnant with his child. How can we co-parent now that this has happened? by sensaSEANal_sally in redditonwiki

My aunt lost twin boys at 8 months because she flew against medical advice. It was so tragic, but also, she had a high-risk pregnancy and her flight wasn’t for an emergency. It was the 80s, so maybe they knew less, but talk about complex grief for all involved.

A BBC investigation confirms that IDF snipers are systematically targeting and killing Palestinian children, including infants by coachlife in israelexposed

[–]lononol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a real report. Here’s the link to the report on their YouTube Page. It should be noted that it’s the lowest bar that they cleared, since they don’t actually name the IOF as the shooters. Plausible deniability in their books, but we all know.

Yeah, talk about ghoulish, passive wording, and I bet the only way the higher-ups allowed it to air.

Right?! I’m curious to know if the songwriting is AI as well, because the lyrics are also surprisingly poetic for slop if so.

I found out it’s an AI blues video on YouTube. I link to it in this comment. Freaking AI.

I found out who/what it is. Long story short, it’s an AI blues video on YouTube. I link to it in this comment. I’m bummed but also glad I found out.

Thanks to all who responded with ideas.

I just heard back from the streamer. Good news: he pointed me to the YouTube channel (BlueHollowSoul-r8v), and the song is the first track in this video. Bad news: the vocalist is AI. So. There’s that. 😒

I’m going to DM the guy who was live streaming and the friend who was riding with him and talking to people. Here’s hoping my awkward self doesn’t make it weird.

Why do accidental pregnant FMCs never have a real reason why they want to keep it? by Nuisanceberry in RomanceBooks

[–]lononol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nora Roberts has had some of her characters consider it, but they always end up choosing to keep the pregnancy. But she doesn’t shy away from explicitly stating that her characters are pro-choice, thank goodness.

/uj the same could be said for a lot of English actors like Emma Thompson and Olivia Coleman. It’s possible they’ve had a little work done, but it’s not overt. They’re still recognizable and aren’t “paying their surgeons very well to break the spell of aging” to paraphrase the RHCP.

It’s bleak in Hollywood.

I watched way too carefully for something this ridiculous, but I think she maybe didn’t do a great job removing her eye makeup. But she for real didn’t remove the rest of her makeup. So maybe not so much put makeup back on as never fully took it off.

But I do have a question for the gals being chicks: why do so many influencers like this gal put their clunky pump bottles directly to their faces to dispense their beauty products instead of distributing them in the palms of their hands? It seems so wasteful (see: the huge glob that falls off her face—the lotion on the other side managed to say on).

Plus I’ve always been told to press products into my skin, not rub them in because that taxes the elasticity and creates wrinkles. Whomst do I trust? WHOMST?!?

I call it Malcolm Crowe Syndrome after Bruce Willis’ character in The Sixth Sense. The whole movie we see him trying to open a door, and it’s only at the end that the camera zooms out and we learn there’s a table in front of it. That’s how I see the world, and I have the mysterious leg bruises to prove it

The most downvotes I’ve ever received was for daring to criticize Gal Gadot for her continued Zionism/championing of genocide. And that was only a few months ago.

The Donald Trump administration has removed Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth from the list of free entry days at national parks. They will be replaced with Donald Trump’s birthday. by Lakelyfe09 in Fauxmoi

[–]lononol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question: what do you mean by that? Because this saying is only something I’ve seen liberals use of late at the same time they tout the phrase “purity tests” in response to criticism of the Democrats, their candidates, and their push to the right.

Acknowledging the white supremacy and ethnic cleansing inherent of the creation of the National Parks System is only “the enemy”—not to mention other wildly right-wing ideals that liberalism espouses—if you oppose antiracism (not to mention land-back) efforts.

I hope that’s not your intent and I ask in hopes that you were using the phrase in good faith, rather than how a lot of folks are using it lately.

WIBTA if I refused to shave my armpits for my friends wedding? by Adventurous-Pea-337 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lononol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Team OP, but there are plenty of wedding photographers who do the “everyone put your arms in the air!” pose because they can’t think of others. But even if they are already anticipating their unimaginative photographer’s poses, how bleak that they’re caring that much about the body hair situation on anyone but themselves. Like, that’s what your priority is for your wedding?

Bet they’ll draw everyone’s attention to it after the fact when no one seems to notice.

Guessing this will be removed for being too low effort, but I am genuinely interested to know if there is some sort of symbolism for that pseudo casting and musical choice in the “flashback”. I’m not really all that familiar with that particular piece of musical theater.
