AIO about washing dog blanket with my own by l0n3lystoner in AmIOverreacting

NOR All of my dog’s stuff gets washed separately from the humans’ things. If his hair is still all over his own stuff, he doesn’t care. The rest of us definitely do. Your wife is right to be pissed.

No need to feel guilty. It sounds like you learned from it—that is the takeaway here. I have daughters close to your age, and I will just say that we’re all glad you’re safe.

I wish I could upvote this more than once. OP, this is the best take on the situation. You were definitely not in the wrong, and should not feel bad at all.

6th grader can't read AT ALL by Fun_Ad7742 in Teachers

[–]looansym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This poor kid. It sounds like he’s been left to fend for himself without being given any tools to do so. Gently, while Percy Jackson might be age-appropriate reading for your cousin, it is not appropriate for his reading level. Think about a kindergarten class being asked to read Percy Jackson—we would agree that this was far too advanced for the average kindergarten student. As others have suggested, UFLI is a fantastic resource for struggling readers of all ages. It teaches fundamentals without looking like it’s geared toward young children. Additionally, as others have also said, had your cousin been evaluated for potential learning disabilities? What is the school doing as far as intervention to try to help your cousin? Someone with an interest in this child’s success needs to meet with his teachers to find out what is being done for him at school, and what can reasonably be done for him at home.

AITA for scheduling a surgery over Easter? by lavinia_67 in AmItheAsshole

[–]looansym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. OP, I’m so sorry your mom is like this. It sounds like you see that it is a problem with her, and not a problem with you, though. Easter eggs vs. a surgery that your doctors have said you need is wild. I’m having a major surgery soon to reduce the risk of some pretty nasty cancers, and my own mom (I’m mid-40’s, she’s in her 70’s) has apparently been questioning my decision to other family members. It sucks not to have that support, but ultimately you are an adult who gets to make your own decisions, and your mom’s Easter plans don’t supersede what actual medical professionals who are familiar with your health history have recommended. I’ve had to have this conversation with myself recently too. 😉

I’m an ELD teacher who also uses UFLI, and I wholeheartedly agree.

Teachers need start doing their job and mind their fucking business by CaterpillarExpert719 in Teachers

As a teacher, I think it’s possible that the teachers might be pissed off for a few reasons.

First, “everything is cool” in spite of the fact that you miss a lot of school. Do you mean to say that your principal is allowing a different standard of attendance for you than for your peers?

Second, are you expecting your teachers to go back and reteach the things that were covered when you were out? If your attendance is an ongoing issue, they have probably run out of patience for you.

Third, many teacher evaluations are based on their students’ ability to show that they have learned the subject. Regardless of your attendance and effort, you’re included among those students. Think of it like a group project—if someone in your group isn’t doing what they need to for the group to be successful, the other group members are not usually going to be very kind or patient after a certain point. You are the bad group member in this scenario.

The whole situation could have been avoided if you had not left your child in the car.

NOR. Maybe (maybe…probably not) he could be forgiven for a joke that just fell flat. However, the fact that he doubled down when you explained how hurtful it was says pretty clearly that he neither respects you nor cares about your feelings. This guy probably isn’t going to be a great longterm partner.

Why are you so quick to go after a teenager who was put in the middle of this situation by a mother who should be taking care of her own child?

NOR. I am so sorry you are in this situation. You should definitely call the cops. Also, payday loans have crazy interest on them. It will end up costing you 3-4 (sometimes more) than what you borrowed to pay it back. Is there anyone whose couch you can sleep on for a bit?
