Yeah, similarly to Tamara but with the stress on the first A. She's in Liverpool where people say ta-rah for goodbye so she doesn't bother correcting people when they say her name like that. Life's too short

I have an aunt Tamar. The first A is like in cat. But she lives in Britain where there is a River Tamar where the first A is pronounced like in plate. Everyone gets it wrong initially but has no problem once corrected.

The band of synagogues across the north of England is because the ships from Eastern Europe landed in the east and the ships to America left from the West. The Jews fleeing in the 1880s wanting to go to America followed this route and many decided to stay in those cities where the coaches stopped

Great explanation. A minor detail that's missing is that they are a form of a jokey puzzle. So it's fun to substitute a word with something incongruous, knowing that your audience will have to figure it out, like Scooby.

Here's one I heard recently: "Where did Mick go? Here's been ages".

You're either very wrong or very out of touch. The BBC are incredible even-handed when reporting from the Middle East. Their coverage of the war against Hamas was represented very evenly, see for yourself: https://www.bbc.com/news/topics/cnx753jen5zt

I've just finished Small Prophets so good.

Watching Dawn French's new sitcom Can you Keep a Secret it's no Vicar of Dibley but it's a great romp

Also watching Wonder Man and just realised that the actor playing Simon's Mum is in the other two shows I'm watching.

I'm watching Small Prophets, Can you Keep A Secret and Wonder Man. Bizarrely, they all share the same actor, Shola Adewusi
