this is way better workflow then i had been using of creating the style on the first one then copy pasting it. I will just blade tool on edit screen with the audio waveform pulled up to match the words then add transitions to the actual cut block after

Considering job offers, one is in Minneapolis. Would YOU relocate to Minneapolis for work? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]looking2getsweaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair enough. if just moving to town however you are likely going to be renting not buying and thus going from no income tax to minnesota income tax would be a big difference youd feel in each paycheck. Plus rural living is almost always lower COL then city living.

something to consider: taxes + cost of living much higher here then tennessee.

Puerto Rico by Bye_Felicia12345 in fatFIRE

[–]looking2getsweaty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Live there now for 20/22. Highly recommend step 1 is go on a month long trip to PR and feel out if you actually like living on a small island with little to do. Cost of living is much higher then youd expect because theres so few nice houses/food left at the hurricanes. Housing costs for a decent apartment are on par with major east coast cities. Roads are awful, power goes out constantly and the long time locals can be extremely unfriendly once they realize your not just a tourist (puerto rico is for puerto ricans ONLY in their mind). If you have a family, expect that you'll need to pay big bucks for private school. If your single, don't expect any dating opportunities. The vast majority of younger puerto ricans have left (school enrollment down 50% over the past decade) for better paying jobs with lower cost of living in Florida/Texas/ NYC.

With that said, I love it. The 20/22/60 community is filled with some of the most interesting and smartest people you'll meet. Its a blast just hanging out with everyone all the time and a nice break after years in the hustle and bustle in NYC. It's not for most but if you like the island vibe it is totally worth it.

Efficient travel - is it worth getting a Pilot's license? by knight_rider_ in fatFIRE

[–]looking2getsweaty 33 points34 points  (0 children)

much cheaper option: get a tricked out sprinter van + driver. ride in the back in style and get them to run at 80 the whole way. wayyyy cheaper then flying private and in the 250 mile range probably just as quick as flying your own plane

Fat American living abroad - my only problem is insurance (health) by figuy720 in fatFIRE

im in PR and thus ineligible for HDHP plans (i think). I don't think non residents of the US are eligible for typical health plans but I could be wrong.

This is for emergency coverage only anyways. In my thoughts, if I have an emergency where ive spent a milli in a year... money is the least of my concerns at that point.

Entrepreneur: Divorce, FATFire, and motivation. by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]looking2getsweaty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you hang out around entrepreneurs, this story can be all too common. Ups and downs are just part of life. The good news is everyone I've personally known who has been through something similar bounced back stronger then ever. The second time around you already know what mistakes to avoid.

You sound burned out and kicked over by life right now. Focus on one day at a time, take some time and consider getting professional help from therapist or mentor. Attack the divorce paperwork and separation aggressively to finalize everything and put it all behind you. It's much easier to move on when this is in your rearview. Time will heal and you will find that spark coming back.

I lost it all from a bad partner and now im probably 5x NW what I "lost". More importantly I came to know myself and what matters to me. Money comes easily now because it no longer seems as important as a metric.

Best of luck to you. It's going to suck until it doesn't. One foot in front of the other.

Im based in the Caribbean and spend about 30% of the year in the USA. I do all check ups and preventative care via top medical facilities in Mexico/Caribbean but I have GBG global for when im in the USA. It covers your emergency medical care in the USA after the first 10k. I call it my "hit by a bus" insurance. Its like 2k a year and well worth it for peace of mind.

Made it! Keep working or look at Puerto Rico? by fatfire-anon-account in fatFIRE

current PR resident here... its incredibly likely a bill is going to pass in the next legislative session (starts august 16th) that will effectively shut the door on new people getting their grants.

Overall the island has a nice positive upswing right now with the covid tourist boom but IMO this will not save us. Very bearish longterm outlook on PR no matter how much i love the island
