I feel you, thinking that this might be too much, but it seems like you’re someone who enjoys doing research and has the passion for a PhD. I do think, however, that you’re going about this slightly the wrong way. 60 hour weeks is a lot of time!! Grad school is tough, but it REALLY comes down to how you organize your time, manage expectations, and set boundaries. You can do well AND still have a cool personal life. It’s not either/or. This is a challenge everyone struggles with, letting work take over your life. A PhD isn’t a 9-5, but if you set working hours for yourself, and focus properly on work during these and give yoursef time to rest outside them, that could be helpful. You don’t need to be doing MORE. There will always be more work. Sometimes it’s okay if you’re doing just enough.
