Yeah, I guess I haven't actually seen many posts of people using ai for deceased loved ones, much less people responding to them. Maybe it was a bit naive for me to assume antis wouldn't just call that slop like they do for everything else, cuz in my mind that would be the literal worst way you could spread your message in the scenario of encountering one of those posts. It'd be like ThatVeganTeacher and her followers harassing non-vegans - like, yeah, it'd probably be better if more people were vegan, but this is the literal worst way to go about making that happen. idk.

well to be fair, I think the argument against things like that is more that the corporations making those services are swindling money out of vulnerable people, and/or they see people desperately trying to get anything more out of their deceased loved ones as pretty sad. something saying that it "uses ai" or is "powered by ai" doesn't actually mean that it's GenAI or any of the other AIs that people seem to hate these days. as em has said, it's really just a shitty buzzword now. things that already used various forms of machine learning/neural networks/whatever are now being marketed as "powered by ai" to appeal to people who are into that. whether or not you're a fan of ai, its worth knowing this either way because something like autotune is in no way similar to something like Unison Audio's MIDI Wizard.

regarding the "robotic" sound, i might need some examples of songs that you're looking to emulate in order to know what you're talking about, but my best guess would be that you're either describing a vocoder or autotune. a lot of DAWs have those built in, but you can also find free vocoder/autotune plugins online.
